Sydney Sweeney is portraying real-life fighter Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. To effectively play the part, Sweeney needed to bulk up, and she ultimately put on 30 pounds for the transformative movie role, which has been described as a "female Rocky."
Sweeney and the film's director, David Michôd, discussed her casting as Christy Martin in a new profile for W Magazine. Michôd stressed how Sweeney "trained her butt off to play the part," impressed by the physical work she had put into the film. Gaining 30 pounds and taking part in training sessions was not easy, but Sweeney also said she she "loved" every bit of it, no matter how challenging some days might have gotten.
“I loved it,” Sweeney explained. "I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours,...

Sydney Sweeney is no stranger to the fighting world. Last year, just prior to starting the training for portraying boxer Christy Martin, the Euphoria star shared her antsy anticipation for getting back into combat sports when she said, “I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body. Christy’s story isn’t a light one, it’s physically and emotionally demanding, there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself.” In the time since, photos had been released online teasing Sweeney’s transformation into Martin’s fighting shape.
According to Deadline, Sweeney recently shared her journey with W Magazine about putting on 30 pounds to play the athlete in the film. Sweeney professed, “I loved it. I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training.

Sydney Sweeney has experienced a sharp rise through the ranks of Hollywood, driven by her acclaimed performances in shows like Euphoria and The White Lotus, but her next role is one that people may not even recognize her in. The actress signed on last year to portray boxing legend Christy Martin in a sports drama biopic directed by David Michôd, and now she has detailed the extreme lengths she went to in order to get into character and achieve her "crazy" transformation that so far has only been glimpsed in a handful of set photos.
In an interview with W Magazine, Sweeney detailed her commitment to delivering a knockout performance as the boxing Hall-of-Famer, as she explained how she underwent intense training and gained more than 30 pounds to portray Martin in the as-yet untitled movie. Before the internet caught fire over bathwater headlines, Sydney Sweeney was already turning heads for a very different reason, her jaw-dropping transformation for the Christy Martin biopic.
It most definitely marked a clear shift from the image she built after her breakout as Cassie. Every red carpet look only cemented her s-x symbol status. But with Christy, she was finally given the opportunity to prove she’s got real range.
And Sweeney is thus now finally opening up about what she did to play the legendary boxer known as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Turns out, she didn’t just throw a few punches and call it a day, she fully committed. That meant gaining 30 pounds to match Martin’s weight class and make the role as authentic as possible. Here is how she did it!

Sydney Sweeney opened up in a new W Magazine cover story about her dramatic transformation into boxer Christy Martin for an upcoming biopic, saying that her “body was completely different” after months of intense training.
“I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training,” Sweeney told the publication. “I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.”
W also noted that the actor gained more than 30 pounds for the role.
“My body was completely different,” Sweeney said. “I didn’t fit in any of my clothes. I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god.”

Captain James T. Kirk opens the original "Star Trek" series with these immortal words: "Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. The excellent "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" takes its title from Captain Kirk's intro, but it's not the only show to draw inspiration from this opening narration (though you might be surprised to learn which series I'm referring to here).

The reunion tour has come to an end. After Netflix saved Girls5Eva following its first cancelation at Peacock, the series has been axed for a second time at its new streaming home – despite garnering a perfect score for its third season.
Per Variety, it's been revealed that Girls5Eva has been canceled at Netflix. Originally, the series was a Peacock exclusive, debuting on the NBCUniversal streaming platform in 2021. When Peacock pulled the plug after two seasons, Netflix swooped in to save Girls5Eva, giving the musical comedy show a third season that debuted in March. While there were high hopes that the series would become even more popular with the move, given its critical acclaim, that was not the case. Series star Busy Phillips has speculated that underwhelming viewership is behind the second cancelation.

Sydney Sweeney hit back at body shamers who frequent her social media accounts Friday with video that showed her training regimen from her upcoming Christy Martin biopic.
The clip, shared on Instagram, started with a series of insulting and sexist social media about her body followed by footage of her training in the gym for the role.
“She looks very chunky,” one of the comments reads. “Nothing ‘incredible’ here… Maybe an Ozempic candidate tho” another person wrote. In the stills that follow, Sweeney is seen lifting massive tires, working out with weights, and boxing in the ring. Though she doesn’t say anything and there’s no caption on the post, the message is clear: body shamers be damned.

CW’s Superman and Lois has been creating a ruckus due to its high-intensity pacing. And quite rightfully so, as even with season 4 almost ending, the show’s penchant for dramatic cliffhangers is still going strong. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch’s performances are just as enchanting as ever, if not more, due to the turmoil they are currently going through due to Lex Luthor’s slander campaign against Lois Lane.

The Captive’s War series by S.A. Corey is on its way to Prime Video! Eventually, that is, since these things take time, especially in the science fiction genre.
For those familiar with The Expanse, a new Prime series from the same authors (James S.A. Corey is a pen name for writers Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck) and showrunners is welcome news.
Even better, The Captive’s War series is an entirely new universe, separate and distinct from The Expanse. With all the sequels, prequels, spin-offs, and wannabes out there, something unique is an exciting prospect.
(Syfy)
Unfortunately, this doesn’t bode well for a potential continuation of The Expanse, a series that ended with three books’ worth of storytelling remaining.
On the bright side, this upcoming release is a good sign for the continued growth of the Science Fiction genre, especially in a more creative and intelligent direction.

Sydney Sweeney has shared the first look of what fans can expect to see of her in her next film, in which she’ll star as former professional boxer Christy Martin.
In a Wednesday Instagram post, the actress sardonically thanked the paparazzi for spoiling her casting news.
“Well, the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes so here’s a little BTS from my film I’m working on right now,” Sweeney shared. She coupled the post with two images of her coming out of her trailer and on set, complete with muscles and dramatically different brown, curly hair.
“Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman — a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring,” Sweeney wrote. “Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength and hope, and...

Producers have previously described Martin as the "female Rocky" when announcing the project. The actress underwent a major transformation for her role in David Michds upcoming untitled drama about the boxer, switching her regular gold locks for a dark mullet. The Anyone But You star confirmed the role after paparazzi leaked the photos of her on set on Oct. 15.

Sydney Sweeney is trading her short-lived superhero suit for boxing gloves in an upcoming untitled biopic about one of the most legendary female boxers in sports history. Although the Euphoria actress is no stranger to transforming herself for an acting role, this will be perhaps her most unrecognizable character yet. Sweeney puts on some muscle and sports a new hairstyle in hopes of capturing the essence of Christy Martin, the woman well-known for putting women's boxing on the global map.
Sweeney posted on Instagram, officially revealing her transformation as the legendary boxer Christy Martin after paparazzi nabbed candid photos from the film currently in production. The actress is noticeably buff, putting on some extra weight and muscle. She is also rocking a mullet, which is very suitable for the '80s and early '90s, presumably when the biopic takes place. This week, AppleTV+ brings us Land of Women, starring Eva Longoria as Gala, a woman who has to flee her luxurious Manhattan life when a couple of hired goons crash the opening of her brand-new wine shop to say her husband Fred (James Purefoy) owes their boss $15 million. Gala gathers her mother Julia (Carmen Maura) and teen daughter Kate (Victoria Bazua) and sets off for La Muga, Julia’s hometown in Catalonia, to hide from Fred’s shady creditor and plot her next move.
Land of Women is described as a dramedy, but having watched it all and found it perfectly pleasant, I can report that the “-medy” half of the portmanteau isn’t the kind that’s going to make many viewers laugh out loud. Mike Colter has suggested that he may not reprise the role of Luke Cage in the McU's future, leaving Marvel Studios the opportunity to recast the Hero of Harlem. Luke Cage could be a huge character in the McU's future, particularly since he ends up leading the Avengers in Marvel Comics, so a new actor needs to represent this bigger role. Ricky Whittle, Trevante Rhodes, Laz Alonso, Y'lan Noel, Aldis Hodge, and Chad L. Coleman, among others, could be perfect at bringing a new Luke Cage into the MCU.

And this one felt so perfect. Because she has a documentary. She’s trying to make a documentary and it felt like at some point, whether it was the real backstory or whether it was some dramatic over-telling of her life, it was going to be worth it. And we got both.”

My Adventures with Superman is one of the most brilliant superhero animated series. Created by Brendan Clougher, Jake Wyatt, and Josie Campbell, the Adult Swim series tells the story of Superman aka Clark Kent as he starts his new job at The Daily Planet, with his roommate Jimmy Olson, and his senior intern at The Daily Planet who is none other than Lois Lane. They quickly become a team and try to bring in big stories so that they can become real reporters while Clark also tries to become the hero he is meant to be. My Adventures with Superman has great action but the brilliant thing about the series is that it isn’t an action series about Superman, it’s a series about a superhero and his relationships as he figures out who he really is. So, if you love the heart, optimism, great story, and fantastic animation...

This article contains spoilers for The Orville, Star Trek: The Original Series, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Featuring broad comedy and characters who don’t seem to be taking their jobs very seriously, the first trailer for The Orville suggested that the Fox series would be a spoof of Star Trek.
In said trailer, Captain Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) tries to eat a marble and asks an alien to move over so he is framed better in the viewscreen. Lt. Gordon Malloy (Scott Grimes) drinks beer while on duty, flying a shuttle, at 9:15 a.m. Commander Kelly Grayson’s (Adrianne Palicki) former marriage to Mercer is treated to rather stale “comic” arguments about going to therapy. Mercer’s reaction to Lt. Commander Bortus’s (Peter Macon) species being entirely male is to observe, with truly cutting and original wit, that they probably don’t have many arguments about leaving the toilet seat up.

Seth MacFarlane remains optimistic about the future of The Orville, but the lack of updates on its renewal is frustrating for fans and cast members alike. MacFarlane's commitments to his other shows, such as Ted and Family Guy, as well as his passion for The Orville, could be causing delays in its renewal. The Orville's unique mix of serious sci-fi and humor, along with its connections to Star Trek, could potentially attract a new audience for season 4, but reducing the long gaps between seasons would be crucial for studio and streamer bosses.
The Hollywood profile of The Orville creator Seth MacFarlane is the sci-fi comedy drama's best chance for renewal, but it could also prove to be a major obstacle. That means that any given episode of the show features abundant background material with supporting characters in addition to the usual Mark Grayson a.k.a. Invincible (Steven Yeun) hijinx. The latest example of a seemingly unimportant character getting prominent billing comes in season 2 episode 2 “In About Six Hours I Lose My Virginity to a Fish.” While Mark prepares to fulfill the unfortunate promise of the episode’s title, the plot occasionally drifts over to focus on a very strange astronaut named Rus Livingston (voiced by Sonic the Hedgehog himself: Ben Schwartz).
But who exactly is Rus Livingston? Where did he come from? And how did he come to be the superhero “The Shapesmith.
