For over 30 years Stéphane Bourgoin was known in France as the leading expert on serial killers. During his tenure he interviewed 77 murderers, including Charles Manson. He trained at the FBI’s base in Quantico, Virginia and wrote over 40 best-selling books about various violent deaths. He was a regular on French television shows and true crime documentaries. Bourgoin’s fascination with homicide was personal. His wife was murdered in 1976.

But in reality, Bourgoin was lying about practically everything. While he wasn’t a serial killer, Bourgoin was a serial liar. He never really spoke to Charles Manson and he didn’t interview more than 70 serial killers; more like 30. He also never trained with the FBI and his wife, Eileen, wasn’t murdered. She didn’t even exist. Eileen, it turns out, was a woman he won’t name, whom Bourgoin said had met before she was murdered in 1975 by a serial killer.

Nat Geo has ordered a trio of new projects.

The network has greenlit Pathological, a true-crime doc about conman Stéphane Bourgoin and Sally, a feature doc about space pioneer Sally Ride, while Anthony Mackie is taking Shark Beach over from Chris Hemsworth.

Pathological: Chasing A True-Crime Con Man follows the rise and fall of bestselling French author and serial killer expert Bourgoin, whose career was built on a foundation of lies. The series takes viewers through the dramatic twists and turns of Bourgoin’s life in front of and behind the camera and tracks his pursuit by a group of true-crime enthusiasts, whose passion for the genre turned them into amateur sleuths and seekers of truth.

Based on the New Yorker’s 2022 piece on Bourgoin from journalist Lauren Collins, the three-part series comes from filmmaker Ben Selkow. It is produced by The New Yorker Studios and The Circus producer Left/Right.

Chris Hemsworth will continue testing his phyical and mental boundaries for Nat Geo.

The Disney-owned company has renewed Limitless With Chris Hemsworth for a second season, which like the first will stream on Disney+. The formal pickup comes more than a year after the first season debuted in November 2022.

Nat Geo and Disney+ have also renewed A Real Bug’s Life, the (partially staged) nature series that uses the 1998 Pixar movie A Bug’s Life as its inspiration. That pickup was much quicker, coming two weeks after the series premiered. Nat Geo announced both pickups during its time at the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday.

Exclusive: Canadian streamer Crave has cast Lauren Collins and Megan Follows to lead a six-part short-form comedy, My Dead Mom.

The series follow Emmy, a woman questioning her life choices three years after her mother’s passing. It explores the complicated nature of grief through the filter of mothers and daughters.

Production has begun in production in Toronto, with Follows and Collins starring. Rounding out the cast are Rainbow Sun Francks (High Fidelity), David Reale (The Boys), Daniel Maslany (Murdoch Mysteries), Daniel Kash (Slasher) and guest star Matt Murray (In the Dark).

For 24 years, The New Yorker has leaned on the talents of actors, writers, and others from the world of Hollywood to be a part of its annual New Yorker Festival, which will be held this year Oct. 6-8.

The ongoing Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes have thrown a wrench in many plans that have traditionally relied on Hollywood talent, but the festival will go on, New Yorker editor David Remnick tells The Hollywood Reporter. And there will still be plenty of star power.

The New Yorker, of course, is not owned by a struck company, but SAG has advised its members not to promote projects from studios that have not signed interim agreements, and the Condé Nast-owned publication has had to adapt accordingly: “We faced a challenge or two,” Remnick says.

Nearly 10 months after HBO Max ordered a new series of “Degrassi”, the popular Canadian teen franchise, and also picked up the streaming rights for all 14 seasons of “Degrassi: The Next Generation”, Et has confirmed that reboot is no longer moving forward.

Originally eyed for a 2023 debut, the new “Degrassi” series was going to consist of 10 hour-long episodes and be run by showrunners Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen, with filming set to begin over the summer in Toronto.

This looks like so much fun, at least until the weird little CGI elves show up. Drake’s former castmates from “Degrassi: The Next Generation” had a blast reuniting for his latest video, “I’m Upset,” shot this past weekend in downtown Toronto from the Air Canada Centre, where the rap star’s beloved Raptors play basketball, in addition to the Degrassi set in north Toronto, where the long-running teen drama still films.

He released the video Wednesday night and it already has more than 2.5 million views on YouTube.

From 2001 to 2009, Drake, then known by his birth name Aubrey Graham, played Jimmy Brooks in the series, a rich kid who ends up in a wheelchair after getting shot.

He appeared in over 100 episodes, and again in “Degrassi: Minis” (2005-2007). He also released his first mixtape, “Room For Improvement,” in 2007.

Cassandra Steele and Miriam McDonald of the Canadian drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation thrilled fans with a surprise reunion documented by a series of selfies.

Before being known as Drake, Aubrey Graham made a name for himself as a Canadian actor starring on the Noggin series "Degrassi: The Next Generation." The rapper played Jimmy Brooks on the series, a basketball player who ended up in a wheelchair after a school shooting left him paralyzed. Arguably the most notable alumnus of millennials' favorite Canadian school district, Drake played Jimmy Brooks, a basketball star who became paralyzed during a shooting. He even showed off his early hip-hop skills on the show, spitting verses on girlfriend Ashley's talent show ballad.

Degrassi stars Shane Kippel, Lauren Collins, Jake Epstein and Adamo Ruggiero reunited Monday while shooting promos for the show, which got canceled earlier this month after 14 years on the air – but is coming back with 20 new episodes in 2016 thanks to the powers that be at Netflix.

Still, every fan of the Canadian tween/teen drama knows that the show really hit its stride in the Next Generation years, with Kippel's slacker Spinner, Collins' queen bee Paige, Epstein's bipolar rocker Craig and Ruggiero's proudly out Marco ruling the hallways.

People who experience sexual assault are rarely portrayed on television in a way that gives voice and meaning to their stories. 1 in 4 women experience sexual assault in their lifetime, and yet despite prevalent advocacy and awareness efforts, television still has a long way to go in telling stories surrounding sexual assault. This fact makes it all the more surprising that a 2002 episode of the Canadian program Degrassi: The Next Generation kicked off a story arc around a character’s sexual assault that would extend for years and serve as an empowering narrative around sexual assault, healing, and recovery.

Degrassi: The Next Generation was an early 2000’s re-imagining of the classic Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High series from the late 1980s and early 1990s. These shows focused around a class of students at a Canadian school and was a vehicle for addressing issues affecting teenagers, everything from homophobia to teenage pregnancy.

Principal photography has begun on the mystery starring Fairuza Balk, Charles Baker and Alanna Ubach.

Sam Hancock directs his second feature, in which Balk (pictured) plays a woman determined to get to the cause of her estranged son’s death.

Matthew Donaldson, Amelia Belle, Ubach and Joshua B Porter produce and the film is scheduled to shoot entirely on location in Berkeley and Oakland, California.

Tamara Taylor, Ashley Clements, Rolf Saxon, Gregory Marcel and Justin Fix round out the cast.

Principal photography has wrapped on Wango Films’ Skyscraper (working title), a thriller shot on location in Niagara Falls, Canada.

The project marks the latest film investment by Breakthrough Entertainment, which will also handle world sales.

The film centres on group of young paranormal investigators who investigate an abandoned Skyscraper.

If you’re a fan of Degrassi: The Next Generation but you’ve never watched Comedy Central’s Kroll Show, do yourself a favor and fix that immediately. One of the Must-List-approved show’s best recurring sketches is a serialized Degrassi parody called Wheels, Ontario, which follows a Bieber-haired kid named Mikey (Nick Kroll) as he navigates the treacherous waters of Canada’s most scandalous high school. Lee Rigby has been identified as the soldier who was killed in the devastating terrorist attack in London on May 22. Lee, 25, who is described as “cheeky and humorous,” was a “loving father” to his 2-year-old son called Jack, and he was a fan of drumming and soccer.
