‘The Gilded Age’ Renewed For Season 4 By HBO
Image
HBO has handed a Season 4 renewal to Julian Fellowes’ period drama The Gilded Age. The pickup comes ahead of the Season 3 finale on August 10, which will wrap some storylines while setting up more drama and intrigue.

The Gilded Age, which leans into the New York theater community for its strong — and expansive — ensemble cast, has been a true word-of-mouth phenomenon. Launching on HBO’s lower-profile Monday night, it defied the odds and drew a solid viewership to earn a Season 2 renewal. Moving to HBO’s marquee Sunday night, The Gilded Age has been on an upswing since, finding a new gear with its current third season.

Premiere-night viewing has grown for five consecutive weeks, with Episode 5 drawing a new series high of 4 million U.S. cross-platform viewers within its first three days of availability. It was accompanied by a new weekly viewership high on HBO Max. Season-to-season, The Gilded Age...

Why ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 3 won’t be eligible for any Emmys this year
Image
After an 18-month break, get ready to give a warm welcome back to Bertha, Marian, Agnes, Ada, and the rest of The Gilded Age gang. Season 3 will premiere the first of eight episodes in June, HBO announced today, six months after Season 2 wrapped on Dec. 17, 2023. Although a specific launch day wasn't announced, a June premiere date for the new season means it won't be eligible for the current 2025 Emmys cycle, whose cutoff is May 31. Instead, Gilded Age Season 3 will compete at the 2026 Emmy Awards.

Returning cast members for the 1880s period piece that pits "new money" New Yorkers against the established wealthy, include Carrie Coon (hot off her White Lotus Emmy buzz) as Bertha Russell, Christine Baranski as Agnes van Rhijn, Cynthia Nixon as Ada Forte, Morgan Spector as George Russell, Louisa Jacobson as Marian Brook, Denée Benton as Peggy Scott, Taissa Farmiga as Gladys Russell, Harry Richardson as Larry Russell,...

The Gilded Age Season 3: Confirmation, Cast & Everything We Know
Image
The Gilded Age season 3 is on the way, and the continuing popularity of the historical drama makes it a surefire hit. Debuting on its original network of NBC in 2022, The Gilded Age is written and created by Julian Fellowes, known for the hit series Downton Abbey. With a cast that includes multiple theater veterans and classically trained actors, The Gilded Age brings the nuance of Fellowess other shows to Americas industrial boom in the late 1800s specifically to the New York industrialists and socialites that thrived (and fell) during this unique point in history.

The series has been a critical darling throughout its first two seasons, and The Gilded Age season 2 actually surpassed its predecessor with a Rotten Tomatoes score of over 90%. Dylan Baker
The Gilded Age Season 3 is currently in production in New York. Fans got their first glimpse of Season 3 footage in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it clip in an HBO teaser dropped on August 4, showing Bertha (Carrie Coon) and Marian (Louisa Jacobson) and more in the new episodes. Recent casting updates reveal that the women’s suffrage movement and Bertha’s family history will both be topics this season, and more historical figures are going to be depicted. One character description also hints that there will be scenes set in England for the very first time. Could that be because Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) marries the English Duke of Buckingham after all? Screen Actors Guild Awards recognize ‘Birdman’, ‘Boyhood’, ‘Modern Family’
The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations were revealed Wednesday morning, serving as yet another precursor on the long road to the Oscars.

In the film categories, Birdman was the big winner, scoring four nominations, including for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as the collective ensemble cast. Boyhood followed right in its footsteps with three nods for Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and another ensemble nomination.

The big surprises of the morning’s nominations started with Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, a bubble contender in a crowded Best Actor race, Jennifer Aniston for Cake, a bubble contender in a disappointingly less crowded Best Actress race, Robert Duvall in the poorly reviewed The Judge and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent (Watts was in Birdman as well, but that must’ve slipped SAG’s minds).

Rounding out the prize for Outstanding Cast, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game,...

SAG Nominations and Announcement of A New Feature
As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.

Here's where a new running feature comes into play:

As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline,...

Man of the Mullet! Alan Jackson Goes Retro Onstage in Nashville
Alan Jackson
For more than two hours Wednesday night, Alan Jackson took his Nashville audience on a musical journey through his 25-year multi-platinum career. But he saved the ultimate blast from the past for his encore: The return of the country-crooner look that made him famous, complete with mullet hair, aviator glasses, sleeveless western shirt and worn-down-to-the-threads jeans. As the crowd roared, Jackson tousled his fake hair and flashed his heart-melting smile (that hasn't changed in a quarter century) before launching into his 1993 hit, "Mercury Blues," the first in a three-song encore. No one seemed more delighted by the reappearance of "1990s Alan" than his wife,...

Bww Interview: Tony-Nominee John Ellison Conlee Chats All Things Boardwalk Empire, The Commodore, and Dabney Coleman
As all Boardwalk Empire fans know, tonight is the HBO series' penultimate episode. With the series finale just one week away, I recently spoke to John Ellison Conlee about his experience on the show. Conlee plays the younger version of The Commodore, Louis Kaestner. A character that played a major role in the first two seasons, when the older version was played by legendary actor Dabney Coleman.

Recap: 'Boardwalk Empire' Season 5, Episode 4 ‘Cuanto’
Directed by Jake Paltrow (“Young Ones”), this episode of "Boardwalk Empire" elegantly unfurls the flashback's of Nucky's youth and there’s a lot of nuance and sweetness throughout the episode. As the young Enoch (Marc Pickering) awakens to his surroundings —the wealth, the privilege, the status— he is summarily laid off. Summer's over, the tourists are leaving the Boardwalk and there's no reason to keep on a boy paid to sweep up their mess. "Don't enter a room like a question mark," the Commodore (John Ellison Conlee) scowls at Enoch's meek bearing. The boy is getting life lessons everyday about how the world works, and through the Commodore’s actions, we bear witness in reverse to Nucky Thompson becoming the man he is and where he got his outlook on life. The Commodore keeps the boy on his toes. When he tells him the job is over, he asks Nucky derisively,...

Season premiere review: 'Boardwalk Empire' - 'Golden Days for Boys and Girls'
Boardwalk Empire (2010)
"Boardwalk Empire" is back for its final season. I interviewed Terence Winter about the decision to end the show (and to move the action forward to 1931), and I have a review of the premiere coming up just as soon as I sail away on a turtle... "They're not so special. All they have is money. Ways to find that, I reckon." -Nucky Winter told me he wanted to bring the story of both Nucky and the series full circle, and "Golden Days for Boys and Girls" begins that process in more ways than one. Not only do we leap forward to 1931 to see Nucky preparing for the potential end of Prohibition (just as the series began in the hours leading up to the implementation of the Volstead Act), but we jump back in time to 1884, to the beginning of Nucky's apprenticeship with the Commodore. Now, the issue with "Boardwalk" has...

How Does the Boardwalk Empire Cast Think the Show Will End?
View Photo Gallery

We’ve been waiting for the fifth and final season of Boardwalk Empire with equal parts anticipation and dread. Anticipation, because it’s one of our favorite shows. Dread, because it’s one of our favorite shows. This fifth season, unfortunately, marks an ending for the shady dealings of Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) and the gangster underworld of a Prohibition-era Atlantic City. But it’s not all doom and gloom — we’re glad that Boardwalk Empire will bow out on a high note, leaving the party while it’s still fun. And what better way to preserve such a beautifully cinematic, narrative rich legacy?

VH1 attended the red carpet premiere for season five, and caught up with some of the stars of the show to ask them how they thought Boardwalk Empire was going to end. None of the cast has any clue where the show is going,...
