Stars: Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Jane Kaczmarek, George Martin, David Clennon, Dianne Wiest, Frances Conroy | Written by Michael Cristofer | Directed by Ulu Grosbard

Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro are wonderful Hollywood actors who, together, have won 5 Academy Awards: 2 for De Niro and 3 for Streep. They have acted on screen together several times in their careers. Including their first on-screen film, 1979’s The Deer Hunter, followed by Marvin’s Room (1996) and The Good House (2013).

In between these films, in 1984, right at the height of De Niro’s popularity, he was cast alongside the lovely Streep for a romantic drama entitled Falling in Love. Now this film just celebrated its 40th anniversary. So, what better time for a Blu-ray debut?

Sometimes magic is the only thing that’s real. Falling in Love is a shining example of the magic that’s created when two of Hollywood’s biggest and...

Last call! 5 HBO shows are leaving Netflix in the US this summer and fall
Image
You’d best binge on some HBO shows on Netflix, as several will be leaving the streamer this summer and fall!

HBO and Netflix have had an up-and-down relationship over the years. HBO was okay with licensing some of their original shows to the streamer but obviously wanted to keep some bigger ones on HBO itself. The coming of Max means HBO doesn’t need Netflix as much.

2023 saw a new deal premiering several HBO shows on Netflix, but it looks like that agreement is coming to an end. There is a chance it could be renewed, so some of these stay after all, which is common for streamers. However, per What’s On Netflix, here’s a quick look at the five HBO shows that may be leaving Netflix this summer.

From ‘The Mist’ to ‘The Monkey’: A Guide to Stephen King’s ‘Skeleton Crew’ Adaptations
Image
Presented by Neon’s The Monkey, Bloody Disgusting is celebrating this Friday’s release of Osgood Perkins’ highly anticipated horror with Stephen King Week. Yesterday, Luiz H. C. catalogues his cursed objects. and today, Rachel Reeves dusts off other adaptations from King’s Skeleton Crew.

For some, it was Michael J. Fox holding a copy of Skeleton Crew for his 1988 Read campaign poster that first inspired a read of the Stephen King short story collection. For others, the killer, record-breaking trailer for Neon’s new film The Monkey, written and directed by Osgood Perkins, instigated fingers to flip through pages. Whatever the inciting incident that introduced one to Skeleton Crew, the fact remains that it is a certified Constant Reader classic and a treasure trove of cinematic, eerie, and unsettling tales.

Since the initial release of Skeleton Crew in 1985, several stories have found their way to the screen, with varying degrees of success.

Every Season Of How I Met Your Mother, Ranked
Image
Back in the days when television seasons had 20+ episodes per season, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas' hit sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" managed to wring nine seasons and 208 episodes out of its premise. With Josh Radnor as the series lead, Ted Mosby — whose older self, voiced by Bob Saget, is telling his kids an interminably long story about how he met their mom — and Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders, and Neil Patrick Harris as his best friends Marshall Eriksen, Lily Aldrin, Robin Scherbatsky, and Barney Stinson, the show explores Ted's love life in New York City as he tries to find "the one." To say it takes him a long time is a serious understatement.

As with all long-running series, "How I Met Your Mother" had definitive high points and low points from season to season. So, which seasons show off the very best of the ensemble comedy...

The Worst Episode Of How I Met Your Mother, According To IMDb
Image
Craig Thomas and Carter Bays' CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2014, and was so popular that it even launched a spin-off series. Despite its impressive longevity, however, it's safe to say that not every episode is a winner ... which makes sense since there are over 200 episodes in the series. There are actually a handful of seriously terrible episodes of the ensemble comedy — which stars Josh Radnor as Ted Mosby, the guy who takes forever telling his kids about how he met their mother (with adult Ted voice by the late Bob Saget) — so which one do fans think is the absolute worst, if we're using the IMDb ranking as their final word on the matter?

The answer is a little complicated, because the series finale, "Last Forever," is split into two parts ... and the second part, appropriately subtitled "Part Two," has the dubious...

Ralph Fiennes Admits That He Felt "Lost" Playing The Politician Role In Jennifer Lopez's $154M Rom-Com Movie

Ralph Fiennes has had an extremely varied career throughout the years. He made his debut on television in 1991, playing the role of Michael in the TV series Prime Suspect. A year later, he also played the key role of Heathcliff in the 1992 adaptation of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights. Since then, he has played in both dramatic and comedy roles, including parts in Schindler's List, Quiz Show, and the Wes Anderson movie The Grand Budapest Hotel. Fiennes has been nominated for two Oscars, the first for his supporting role in Schindler's List and the second for The English Patient.

10 Darkest Marvel & DC Movie Endings Of All Time
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had its fair share of dark movie endings over the years, as did the Dceu and standalone Marvel & DC films, though some left a bigger mark than others. Marvel Studios has become known for using a specific formula to craft its movies. While the studio's use of humor is always remembered, that does not mean that the franchise does not know when to get dark, and some of the best MCU movies took that direction.

As a whole, DC is widely regarded as the more serious and dark of the two, at least where live-action films are concerned. Even the lighter films in the Dceu, like the Shazam! franchise, featured dark moments. The battle between heroes and villains always reaches a boiling point by the final third of the movie, and that has led to many Marvel and DC movies having dark endings, of which these are the darkest.

3 Years Later, Im Surprisingly Glad Kathy Bates Was Replaced In American Horror Story's 80% Rt Season
Image
In February 2020, Ryan Murphy announced the cast for American Horror Story: Double Feature, but some changes happened when it was time for filming. The line-up included well-loved veterans of the show such as Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Finn Wittrock, and Kathy Bates. However, due to the impact of Covid-19 and lockdown procedures, the season didn't premier until August 2021. Despite the long list of popular returning actors in the season, there was one actor who was noticeably absent from the season, Kathy Bates.

It soon became clear that the role Kathy Bates was originally supposed to play had been taken over by AHS veteran Frances Conroy. All we were told about Bates' character was that she would share a crazed, intimate scene with Macaulay Culkin's character, Mickey. Once I saw that scene acted out with Frances Conroy, it was made clear that she had taken over the character.

The Only Recap You Need Before Joker: Folie à Deux
Image
It may be tough to remember now -- we've all lived so many lives since then! -- but when "Joker" was released in 2019, the film sparked concerns that it could lead to violence. Director Todd Phillips questioned the backlash, comparing his film to "John Wick" and telling the Associated Press, "Why does this movie get held to different standards? It honestly doesn't make sense to me." The film, after all, was about a white man committing extreme violence because he felt shafted by society, and in the thick of the Donald Trump administration, it felt like Joker could prove to be a hero to a certain subsection of the population.

"Joker" didn't, of course, lead to mass outbreaks of comic book clown-inspired movie theater violence. The movie went on to break a billion dollars, and it won two Oscars out of eleven nominations: one for Joaquin Phoenix's lead performance...

Joker Ending Explained: What Really Happened To Arthur
Image
Joker's ending leaves the truth of the DC villain's origin almost as mysterious as before it began. What was real, and what was just in Arthur Fleck's head? And what was his final joke? We're here to explain what exactly was going on in Todd Phillips' very-against-type comic book movie - and what it really means. With Joker: Folie Deux out October 4, 2024, the sequel will look to build on some of these questions raised.

Ostensibly telling the Clown Prince of Crime's backstory, Joker follows the outsider Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) in his descent into insanity. Fired from his job as a clown for taking a gun into a children's hospital and cut off from his social care, the struggling stand-up comedian begins to lose track of himself. He shoots and kills three Wayne Industries employees when attacked on a train, sparking a working-class protest movement, and comes to believe that...

Joker 2 Director Todd Phillips Already Knows How You'll React To The Movie's Ending

At a pre-screening question and answer session attended by /Film ahead of the film's release, Phillips admitted that plenty of people he knows have had pretty stark reactions to the end of the new movie, and have needed a while to gather their thoughts on what they just saw.

Halle Berry made a recent appearance for an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss her new movie Never Let Go. When asked by Jimmy Fallon about what she remembered about making the film, Berry stated she “loved it” despite it being “panned” by critics. Once asked if she would don the cat suit again, Berry told Fallon “Maybe, if I could direct it.”

Could this be the star's way of leaving the door open for yet another appearance as the Pitof version of the character? The legendary actress is at a stage in her career where she can do whatever she wants, but even if she were to direct another Catwoman project,...

10 Failed Remakes of Classic Movies

Remakes are a matter of contention among movie fans. Every so often, one comes along that has something interesting and new to say about its source material... but that's certainly not common. Generally, news of a new remake is met only with eye rolls, especially if it is of a particularly beloved old movie.

And it's easy to see why that's the case. A lot of remakes are not only bad at staying true to the themes of the original, but they're just not fantastic movies in their own right. They're often punished with poor critical reviews, box-office failure, or both.

'How Can We Fix It?': Catwoman Director on What Went Wrong With the 2004 Film
Image
Halle Berry's Catwoman is among the more polarizing comic book adaptations, as it was instantly met with fan backlash and negative reviews upon release. After two decades, director Pitof looks back on where the movie went wrong.

In honor of Catwoman celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Pitof spoke at length about the film in a new interview with CinemaBlend. Addressing the negative reception, Pitof said that the biggest issue can be traced to the script. According to the director, the screenplay still had not yet been finalized by the time shooting began, and this led to major problems in the editing process. Looking back at the ordeal 20 years later, Pitof suggested that the film could have been saved if there had been more time given to polish the script before rolling cameras.

Undoubtedly, Catwoman has a seat at the 2000s pop culture table despite its poor execution and reception it remains beloved for its ridiculousness, its meme-able moments, and the irony of being released the same year Halle Berry (who played the titular character) won an Academy Award for her moving performance in Monsters Ball.

CinemaBlend conducted an interview with the director Pitof, who sat down to speak about the impact and legacy of the movie, 20 years later. Pitof states that the main dilemma was the script: After the shoot, when we put the movie together, it didn't work because so much (had) changed during shooting. The pieces were not really fitting together. We had to rethink completely the whole edit, inverting scenes and adding new scenes. And we had a 10 day reshoot a month before release date! Which is insane! To fix all the little problems the script had. So I...

Halle Berry On Reprising Catwoman Role In Sequel: “Maybe, If I Could Direct It”
Image
Halle Berry is leaving the door open to reprising her Catwoman role, which she portrayed in the 2004 film directed by Pitof.

The star of The Union hinted that there’s one way to get her to wear the catsuit again.

“Maybe, if I could direct it,” Berry told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show after the host asked her if she would reprise the superhero role.

During her appearance on the NBC late-night show, Berry also recalled the film on its 20th anniversary from the release.

Berry said she “loved it” and recalled critics “panned” the film. However, one thing gives the star vindication 20 years later.

“What I’m happy about is… the children have found it now on the internet,” she added. “The kids love it. So it’s so vindicating because now they’re saying, ‘It’s cool,’ and ‘What the heck was everybody’s problem with it?...

Halle Berry Wants to Give Catwoman Another Chance After 'Unfair' Treatment
Image
Catwoman star Halle Berry keeps purring for a potential return as the DC hero. The Academy Award-winning actor hopes for a second chance at portraying the character after the "unfair" treatment of her and the titular 2004 film.

Speaking to the Canadian Press at the premiere of The Union, Berry expressed her desire to reprise her role as Patience Phillips in another project following Catwoman's poor reception. When asked which of her past characters she'd like to bring back at some point, Berry said, "I would bring back Catwoman, if I really got a chance to. I think what happened to her the first time around was unfair." She also believes Catwoman deserves her flowers and would be more appreciated today, saying, "I think she's way underrated, and I would love to give it another shot."

Catwoman's Halle Berry Recalls Firestorm Surrounding Her Revealing Costume
Image
Catwoman continues to divide opinion 20 years after its release, with star Halle Berry bearing the brunt of its criticism. The Academy Award winner and a producer of the derided superhero film believe the furor surrounding the titular character's suit helped ignite the negativity.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Catwoman producer Denise Di Novi insisted that the backlash towards the movie began with Berry's revealing catsuit for the film, with an earlier version of the outfit leaking online and sparking fan outrage. "That was the first thing that started the negativity. It was an early shot before wed perfected it," she said. "A catsuit, by definition, everything is covered up. We thought itd be cool to be more rock & roll and bare. Halle was famous for wearing a bikini in her Bond movie, and we were like, why not? People had such a reaction to it, which is so ridiculous. Halle Berry Criticizes Catwomans Plot: That Was a Soft Superhero Plight
Image
Even Catwomans own star Halle Berry thinks that the films purring plot was soft. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe should count themselves lucky today, because as bad as things have been with disappointing entries like The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Eternals, the MCU still hasnt laid an egg quite like Catwoman. French filmmaker Pitofs take on the DC Comics anti-hero remains one of the worst superhero flicks of all time. And as Catwoman celebrates its 20th anniversary, Berry says, I always knew that was a soft superhero plight. The actress elaborated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

I always thought the idea of Catwoman saving women from a face cream felt a bit soft. All the other superheroes save the world; they dont just save women from cracked faces. I always knew that was a soft superhero plight, but at that time in my career,...

Every Season Of Six Feet Under Ranked
Image
Over two decades after its initial release, "Six Feet Under" is a uniquely of-its-time television show. The series about a family-owned funeral home and the dysfunctional constellation of people whose lives are shaped by it is often as emotional and riveting now as it was upon release, but it's also aged in interesting key ways. With "American Beauty" scribe Alan Ball and future "Transparent" creator Joey Soloway working behind the scenes, the series also builds in space for existential contemplation, playful and shocking transgression, and mistakes. Lots and lots of mistakes.

As the show wears on, how frequently — and how believably — the Fisher family screws up is at times directly correlated to how well the show's story succeeds. The writers of "Six Feet Under" put their characters through the wringer again and again in a move that makes the series' weakest seasons feel redundant, while its high points mine the mess-ups for heartfelt emotion,...

'Six Feet Under' Ending Explained: How Everyone Dies (and Lives) In the Series Finale
Image
The Six Feet Under series finale is widely considered to be one of the greatest finales of all time. Just ask Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, who once wrote, “That [final] episode was far and away the best finale in the entire history of television, and I cannot imagine how anyone could possibly do better.” Series creator Alan Ball even said he still cries watching it.

It’s hard to argue with the brilliance of an episode that, like life itself, begins with a birth, ends with death, and fills its allotted time with love, pain, family, friendship, resignation, reunions, and tiny miracles like watching a newborn baby breathe.

Baby Willa arrives.

Brenda (Rachel Griffiths) gives birth to a daughter, Willa, at the start of the episode, with her mother-in-law, Ruth (Frances Conroy), by her side. But Willa’s not breathing on her own, and at a mere...

American Horror Story: What Moira's Real Age Is (& Why She's So Old)
Image
Moira O'Hara had two personas in American Horror Story, complicating her age. Breckenridge was 29 playing young Moira, while Conroy was 58 as the elder version. Moira's spirit aged in the Murder House, unlike other ghosts in American Horror Story.

Moira O'Hara had two distinct personas in American Horror Story's debut season, which complicated the ability to pinpoint her age. Both Alexandra Breckenridge and Frances Conroy portrayed Moira throughout season 1, titled Murder House — and Conroy earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 64th Emmy Awards thanks to her chilling performance as the elder version of Moira. Moira was the housekeeper at the infamous "Murder House" and continued the residence's upkeep when the Harmon family moved in.

To women and children, Moira appeared to be an older maid (Conroy) with a conservative style. In the eyes of men, she appeared as a young, seductive woman (Breckenridge). Moira was first given the...

Why Nicolas Cage's The Wicker Man Failed According to Its Director
Image
Filmmaker Neil Labute shares his thoughts on why he feels The Wicker Man remake failed. Despite Labute's efforts, 2006's The Wicker Man couldn't even recoup its budget, earning only $35.8 million worldwide. Establishing the right tone for The Wicker Man remake proved tricky, trying to balance the horror and comedic elements.

Nicolas Cage’s remake of The Wicker Man was roasted alive by audiences and critics during its release in 2006, and director Neil Labute has a few thoughts on why. For many, Cage's film didn't come close to capturing the atmosphere of the wild-haired Christopher Lee and his followers who chanted as Edward Woodward's character is sacrificed in the 1973 original. Playwright and famed filmmaker Labute was tasked with helming the reimagining of the dark and tense story, and the writer/director offered up his thoughts on why his horror movie ended up failing in an exclusive interview with MovieWeb.

You Can Now Watch Netflix's Oscar-Nominated Animated Movie Nimona Free On YouTube
Image
The 2024 Best Animated Feature Oscar race is in full force, and it is an interesting one. Once again, there is no Walt Disney Animation movie nominated, but an underrated Pixar gem instead. There's a sequel to a movie that already won an Oscar with "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," the latest (but seemingly not last) masterpiece from legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki, and a fantastic little indie dark horse in the form of the largely wordless "Robot Dreams."

Then there's "Nimona," the latest Oscar-hopeful from Netflix. The film is not small enough to be considered a dark horse like "Robot Dreams," but definitely feels like an underrated contender considering it didn't get as much widespread attention as the other theatrically released films in this category. Still, "Nimona" is every bit as worthy of the award as the other nominees.

The movie is based on Nd Stevenson's graphic novel of the same name.

10 Comic Book Movie Villains Who Genuinely Believe They're Heroes
Image
Many comic book movie villains genuinely believe they are the heroes, driven by a deep-seated belief in their own cause. The distinction between heroes and villains often comes down to methodology, with villains thinking the ends justify the means. Villains like the Joker, Lex Luthor, and Thanos have their own twisted motivations and see themselves as the true heroes of their stories.

There are many villains in both the MCU and the Dcu who genuinely believe in their own cause, thinking of themselves as the true heroes. As the superhero movie genre has grown, so too have its stories, with each year seeing new and exciting narratives play out inspired by the exploits of various comic book characters. Each narrative needs an antagonist, and the movies of the MCU and Dcu have introduced excellent villains to the big screen. Interestingly, many of these villains don’t seem to understand the error of their ways,...
