Britain's Prince Charles paid tribute to a charity which helps mentally-scarred war veterans rebuild their lives yesterday (12.05.09). The 60-year-old royal and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, joined thousands of servicemen at London's Westminster Abbey to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Combat Stress. The charity - which was founded in 1919 to assist soldiers who were psychologically damaged in World War One - provides clinical treatment for 4,000 men and women. More than 300 served in Iraq or Afghanistan and the youngest person involved in the programme is just 20 years old. Since the charity was established, it has helped more than 100,000 Britons.
