A couple of years ago, Lionsgate found itself in a pickle. The studio's crown jewel franchise, John Wick, was seemingly at a dead end, with the protagonist having been killed off in the fourth film, John Wick: Chapter 4. By that time, the franchise had grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. Before the studio officially announced that the series would be back with a fifth installment, it put together a streaming show in order to keep the franchise ticking. The show, The Continental: From the World of John Wick, is experiencing a spike in interest on Prime Video, probably thanks to the release of last week's From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, the franchise's first theatrical spin-off.
According to FlixPatrol, The Continental was the eighth-biggest show on Prime Video on June 11, with 97 points. The three-episode series has accumulated a total of 444 points so far this year. Led by Colin Woodell,...

Keira Knightley's new series Black Doves made a splash immediately upon its release on the streaming service Netflix with its unique take on the spy thriller genre. The series follows Helen, a spy who learns that her lover Jason has been killed, as she attempts to uncover the plot that led to his death while simultaneously trying to protect her family and maintain her secret identity. Along with Keira Knightley, Black Doves features an impressive cast whose performances have already been lauded by critics.
Black Doves has quickly become one of Netflix's most successful releases of the 2024 holiday season and currently holds a 97% critics approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Continental: From the World of John Wick, receives a disappointing season 2 update from its producer. Created by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward, and Shawn Simmons, The Continental premiered on Peacock in September 2023, and starred Colin Woodell, Mel Gibson, Mishel Prada, and Jessica Allain. The show explores the background of the character Winston Scott - portrayed by Ian McShane in the John Wick film series - and how he came to be the proprietor of the New York Continental. Despite being conceived as a miniseries, hopes were high that The Continental season 2 would advance the story further.
In an interview with The Direct, producer Basil Iwanyk discusses the potential future of the franchise, and casts doubt on the possibility of a season 2 of The Continental. He reflects positively on the season that was produced, but thinks future spinoffs will go in a different direction. He speaks positively about expanding the...

Yeah, we're thinking he's back. Lionsgate has announced that the original John Wick will return to theaters on November 3 and 6 to celebrate the tenth anniversary. The film was such a success upon release that it spawned three direct sequels which helped the franchise reach a box office total of more than $1 billion through four films. Peacock also released a John Wick spin-off series, dubbed The Continental for the famous hotel chain in the film series, created for TV by Greg Coolidge, and even stars Mel Gibson. The series wasn't the same critical or audience hit as any of the John Wick films. However, it still garnered some support and acclaim, earning a 63% score from critics and a 78% rating from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

The 2000s were decades filled with some truly funny comedy movies, but plenty of hilarious releases have been mostly forgotten by modern audiences. Although this was the decade where Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, and Ben Stiller achieved major success at the box office and Judd Apatows unique brand of comedy took over, there were some movies that came and went without leaving a lasting impact. However, this did not make them any less effective, and many of these forgotten comedies deserve to be revisited.
The best comedies of the 2000s were often crude and raunchy with plenty of over-the-top energy, although some of the most underrated and forgotten movies from this era were far subtler and valued sentimental more. Other comedies from shortly after the dawn of the millennium lacked the originality needed to make a lasting impact and were consumed and quickly forgotten by viewers. Whatever the reason, these...

Warrior is a martial arts action crime drama series created by Jonathan Tropper. Based on the writings of the legendary Bruce Lee, the Max series is set during the Tong Wars in late 1870s San Francisco, and it follows the story of Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), a Chinese immigrant who comes to America to find her sister. Warrior was canceled after its much-beloved third season, and while the creators and producers of the series are trying to find a new home for the series, their efforts haven’t panned out yet. So, if you are also disappointed because of the cancellation of Warrior, here are some similar shows you could watch next.

Fresh off this year’s John Wick: Chapter 4 comes the spinoff prequel television series The Continental: From the World of John Wick, developed for television by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward, and Shawn Simmons. Running for three feature-length episodes on Peacock, the series follows the adventures of Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), the future head of the eponymous New York hotel that serves as a safe haven to a shadowy order of global assassins. Spoiler Warning for The Continental "Night Two"The Continental's second episode, titled "Night 2: Loyalty to the Master", certainly ended on the darkest note. The miniseries, a prequel to The John Wick franchise, premiered on Peacock on September 22, 2023, and has been interested in showing how Winston, played in the series by Colin Woodell, will take ownership of the titular hotel by the time of the John Wick film series. Where "Night One" ended with the tease of Winston looking to go to war with Cormac (Mel Gibson) following the death of his brother, "Night Two" was about Winston and assembling his forces getting ready to make a move against Cormac.
Since The Continental is set up as a three-episode miniseries, the creative team envisioned them more as movies. That means the second installment in the trilogy is the darkest, and that is certainly the case in "Night Two." While...

"Rules. Without them, we live with the animals," hotel manager Winston Scott (Ian McShane) once memorably stated in "John Wick: Chapter 2." Even a casual viewer of the "John Wick" films can't help but be intrigued by the franchise's assassin-filled world. One of the unique pleasures of the original 2014 movie is the way it begins in a very grounded, incredibly recognizable reality, sliding bit by bit into a wilder, more garish, more violent, more intriguing underworld along with John (played in the films by Keanu Reeves), as he delves back into the life of murder he thought he'd left behind.
The very first spinoff/expanded universe/prequel to come from the "John Wick" films is the Peacock original miniseries "The Continental: From the World of John Wick," and it finds itself in territory that's both untouched and well-established. Each subsequent "John Wick" film (from Chapters 2 through 4) has developed the world of "Wick" on a grand, global scale, taking John to locales all around the world.

What started from a stolen car, a dead dog, and numerous headshots has now become a full-blown assassin universe. The Continental: From the World of John Wick is a prequel series to the global hit John Wick film franchise and it tells the origin story of Winston Scott from the main films. Set in the 1970s New York the Peacock mini-series shows us how Winston became the manager of the titular hotel which is a haven for assassins around the world.
While it doesn’t compare to the main John Wick film in any way The Continental has its own charms and action sequences that will surely be loved by the fans. The Continental is fully able to pull off a self-contained story with massive stakes and a brilliant character who will now be a part of the cannon forever.

The Continental: From the World of John Wick director Albert Hughes first crossed paths with John Wick masterminds Chad Stahelski and David Leitch in 2008. At the time, Stahelski and Leitch had only recently decided to make the jump from stunt work to the director’s chair, beginning with second unit. So they interviewed for the second-unit gig on The Book of Eli, which Hughes co-directed alongside his twin brother, Allen. Stahelski and Leitch didn’t end up with the job, but it didn’t stop them from achieving their directorial dream a handful of years later when they co-directed the Keanu Reeves actioner John Wick.
Nearly a decade later, John Wick is one of the preeminent action franchises, boasting four films, each of which has outgrossed its predecessors at the box office, with a fifth on the way. Stahelski reminded Hughes of their encounter 15 years earlier during a Zoom meeting...

John Wick’s name might be the one in all the titles, and his face the one on all the posters. But as any John Wick fan could tell you, the appeal of John Wick has never been solely about its leading man. Just as essential to its enduring popularity has been the universe it’s built over four features: one populated by elite assassins and guided by arcane rules, cast in perpetually moody lighting just beneath the surface of our mundane reality.
Whether that setting in itself is enough to mint new (anti)heroes and sustain new leads is the meta question at the heart of Peacock’s The Continental: From the World of John Wick, a John Wick-less sequel set decades before Keanu Reeves ever snarled, “I’m thinking I’m back.” And though it seems more a test of concept than a complete saga, it’s a...

Keanu Reeves’ master assassin may have been left for almost dead at the end of the fourth John Wick film, but things are alive and kicking in the franchise, at least retroactively.
Or, to quote Mel Gibson, who plays the manager of the “precious” hotel for killers at the center of the ’70s and New York-set The Continental: From the World of John Wick: “Son of a bitch, where’s my f*ckin’ shotgun?”
With more than its fair share of Me Decade revolutionaries, rats (literal and figurative) and “fun fumes,” as Gibson’s feral Cormac exclaims, The Continental primarily is a throwback to the heroic bloodshed genre perfected by Ringo Lam and John Woo in the 1980s. With more than a nod or two to 2011’s The Raid, the limited series partially directed by Albert Hughes kicks bellbottomed butt in true John Wick style over its September 22-debuting three-part run on Peacock.

“The Continental” boasts that it’s “From the World of John Wick.” But the Peacock spin-off is thankfully uninterested in providing a microwaved version of the same story. Instead, the miniseries takes its cues from stylized crime auteurs, folks like Joe Carnahan or Guy Ritchie who have as much fun, if not more, with their eccentric character archetypes, rat-a-tat banter and bold needledrops as they do with any blood shed on screen.
But “The Continental” merely aspires to these authors of cinematic cool. And in its Icarus-esque reach, what it faintly grasps only reminds us how hard it is to make something look easy.
Over three sprawling, 90-minute episodes, “The Continental” is centered on a simple story, one that has roots as recent as “The Raid” and as far back as “Rio Bravo” – or more accurately, John Carpenter’s riffs on “Rio Bravo” like “Assault on Precinct 13” or “Escape From New York.

I’ll give “The Continental” this: of all the reasons the “John Wick” prequel frustrates, underwhelms and disappoints, the involvement of Mel Gibson barely manages to rank. That, at least, is a major accomplishment.
The three-part series, subtitled “From the World of John Wick,” was anticipated by a steady stream of red flags: a gap of more than half a decade between the official greenlight and Wednesday’s premiere; the move from Starz, a network owned by franchise studio Lionsgate, to Peacock; the news that Chad Stahelski, the stunt performer turned action auteur, would not direct any episodes, though he retains an executive producer credit. In its final form, “The Continental” bears these misgivings out. The show lacks the star power and visual panache of “John Wick,” and what it adds is directly at odds with the movies’ source of appeal.

They should've left him alone. In 2014's "John Wick," unsuspecting audiences watched in slack-jawed delight as Keanu Reeves announced that he was back and better than ever as the eponymous assassin with a well-founded grudge and an ungodly talent for headshots. What followed has to be considered one of the last decade's greatest success stories: an original action franchise that organically built up its fanbase on the strength of a bona fide movie star. This initially straightforward revenge story, kicked off when Alfie Allen and his goons picked the wrong car to steal and the wrong dog to kill, gradually revealed itself as a downright mythological fable that came to a fitting and (mostly) definitive end with this year's "John Wick: Chapter 4."

The "John Wick" films are action masterpieces, but let's face it: They're tightly focused on Mr. Wick and his battle against the High Table of assassins. With a world surrounding him that's enticingly rich, intriguingly layered, and ambiguously constructed, there's a wealth of possibility for other stories to be found within that world -- stories that have the potential to be just as exciting.

The Continental: From The World Of John Wick is set to serve as a perfect prologue to the John Wick series, expanding the franchise's world and diving into the backstory of the Continental's manager, Winston. The Continental will be a three-episode miniseries that takes place in the 1970s and will focus on a young version of Winston. It features an interesting cast, including Mel Gibson in a controversial role. The series will explore the rise of the Mafia's economic power in New York and England's Winter of Discontent, while still maintaining the franchise's focus on the assassins' underworld. The Continental's story will be told in three 90-minute episodes, the first of which arrives in September 2023.
The upcoming The Continental John Wick prequel spinoff — fully titled The Continental: From The World Of John Wick — is generating serious buzz, and it's shaping up to be the perfect prologue to the John Wick series.

We hope you enjoyed your stay at the Continental, because there's a lot more where that came from. The world of "John Wick" is set to expand with a new prequel series titled "The Continental" that has high hopes of recapturing the same magic that turned the Keanu Reeves-starring quadrilogy into the breakout hit that it became. From the humble beginnings of the relatively self-contained and low-budget 2014 film, the series has since risen to greater and greater heights on the big screen.
It'll have its work cut out for it, given that franchise icons Reeves, Ian McShane, and the late, great Lance Reddick will be nowhere to be seen. In their places will be a new cast of characters, though some will be playing younger versions of very familiar faces. Actor Colin Woodell has been cast to fill the enormous shoes left by McShane as Winston Scott, the fresh-faced manager...

‘The Continental’ Trailer Promises Plenty of ‘John Wick’-Adjacent Thrills in Peacock Prequel (Video)
Ready to return to the world of “John Wick?”
While the dog-loving assassin played by Keanu Reeves shuffled off the mortal coil earlier this year in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” the saga is alive and well, with the prequel series “The Continental: From the World of John Wick” debuting this fall on Peacock. The three-night event has all of the colorful villains, gratuitous bloodshed and rich mythology you’ve come to expect from the series, with a fresh 1970s New York setting that sheds some light on some of your favorite characters.
And you can watch the brand-new trailer above. It’s killer.
“The Continental” follows Winston Scott, played here by Colin Woodell and portrayed by Ian McShane in the “John Wick” movies, who is called back to New York from London by the Continental’s brutish hotel manager Cormac (played with scenery-chewing menace by Mel Gibson). It seems that...

If you've enjoyed watching the four Keanu Reeves-led John Wick movies, you know they're bursting at the seams with action.
When we heard about Peacock's three-part prequel series, there were some concerns about how that would translate to the small screen.
Thankfully, the official trailer for the spinoff teases a world familiar to fans of the iconic movie franchise.
Yes, we're taking a trip to the past, but expanding on the history of The Continental is a convincing hook for a series set in that universe.
While watching the impressive promo, I was baited into thinking I was watching a big-budget movie, and it's because no expense is spared here.
Far too often, franchise extensions leave a bad taste because they pale in comparison to the original material, but The Continental promises to be a show unlike any other.

Peacock has released the official trailer for “The Continental,” the latest addition to the “John Wick” franchise. The Mel Gibson-led miniseries is a prequel to the films starring Keanu Reeves, and centers around Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), who came to acquire The Continental, a notorious chain of hotels that Scott established as a neutral haven for housing assassins.
“The Continental” is an enthralling ode to New York in the 1970s, featuring Donna Summer songs, Studio 54-esque club scenes and lots and lots of guns against the backdrop of the city’s dark and dirty streets. The Lionsgate Television project first gained buzz back in 2017 and was originally planned to air on Starz.
Gibson plays ruthless kingpin Cormac alongside Woodell’s Winston Scott (previously played by Ian McShane). The three-part miniseries also stars Ayomide Adegun, Peter Greene, Ben Robson, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, Mishel Prada and Nhung Kate.
