While audiences are quick to judge a movie or television show based off of a single viewing, most people fail to understand and empathize with the fact that nobody goes through life without making mistakes. So, since fans can relate to such a fact, it shouldn’t be a large surprise when franchises as massive as the MCU occasionally put out a movie that underperforms or includes a character that didn’t meet their potential. With M.O.D.O.K in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania getting a mixed reaction from fans, now’s a good time to check in on other water Marvel villains.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has a major responsibility when it comes to setting up Phase 5 and the next chapter of the Multiverse Saga, but the film cannot forget to follow through on the storylines of the two previous Ant-Man films. Ant-Man's corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been appropriately small, especially when compared to other major films with which it shares a franchise, but Quantumania aims to end this trend, introducing the Multiverse Saga's main villain, Kang the Conqueror, ahead of his appearance in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Nevertheless, Quantumania must also find the time to do justice to one forgotten Ant-Man and the Wasp character.

Though recent movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Bullet Train let the audience know what they're in for from the beginning, other movies are a total surprise. In order to build tension, some films feature characters that start unassuming and eventually become so violent that viewers are completely shocked.

From classic films like The Godfather to modern masterpieces of suspense like Parasite, a character's sudden switch to violence can be an effective twist for any type of flick. While the history of cinema is filled with violent heroes and villains, only the most shockingly violent turns left users on Reddit speechless.

Falling Down (1993)

If ever a film was the poster child for the average-guy-gone-berserk trope it would be Joel Schumacher's 1993 hit Falling Down. Allowing the surprisingly violent Michael Douglas vehicle to speak for itself, user unkownokie wrote simply "Falling Down" when asked which movie shocked them the most.

"Falling Down" is the story of a man who gets pushed over the edge. That man, played by Michael Douglas, feels alienated and impotent in his place in society, and after suffering a mental breakdown, he goes on a violent (and often racist) rampage through Los Angeles.

The movie's themes feel perhaps even more prescient today than they did when it was released, with Douglas' character serving as a sort of avatar for the "white male rage" of the Internet era, when people are more isolated than ever. People long for a world of the past, a world that makes sense to them, and when they look around and don't see that, they lash out.

Watching the film today, some people may feel that the film doesn't do quite enough to condemn the actions and worldview of Douglas' character, especially in situations like his racist tirade against a Korean convenience store owner.
