The band formed in London in 1975, and played for decades with their latest album being released in 2008. The series stars Anson Boon as Johnny Rotten, Toby Wallace (from Babyteeth) as Steve Jones, Christian Lees as Glen Matlock, Jacob Slater as Paul Cook, Louis Partridge as Sid Vicious, Maisie Williams as Jordan, with Emma Appleton, Dylan Llewellyn, Jay Simpson, Razan Nassar, Sydney Chandler, and Iris Law. The six-episode series is based on Jones’ 2017 memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol and centres on the furious, raging storm at the centre of this revolution are the Sex Pistols – and at the centre of this series is Sex Pistols’ founding member and guitarist, Steve Jones. ‘We’re Not Into Music. We’re Into Chaos’: The Sex Pistols Extended Trailer Traces Origins
Image
The Sex Pistols embrace chaos and seek to change a “terribly boring England” in the new trailer for Danny Boyle’s upcoming FX limited series Pistol, premiering in full May 31 on Hulu.

The trailer details the origins of the band, as the working-class members seek to make their indelible mark in the world. “We’re invisible. We’re pissed off. No one gives a shit about us. So, we don’t give a shit about no one else. Maybe that should be our image,” one of them says in a voiceover opening the clip.

Joe Elliott, Vivian Campbell, Rick Allen, Rick Savage, Phil Collen, and Def Leppard
Listen: CulturePop No. 35 - Def Leppard's Phil Collen
Joe Elliott, Vivian Campbell, Rick Allen, Rick Savage, Phil Collen, and Def Leppard
Man, do Melinda and I have all the luck or what? We got yet another amazing guest to sit down with us a few weeks ago (or really, sit down with Melinda, as I was phoning in from Las Vegas). Phil Collen, superstar guitarist for Def Leppard and Manraze (his band with Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols and Simon Laffy of Collens Girl), had a friendly chat with us which was ridiculous, raucous fun. We discussed Manraze's new Ep, "I Surrender," Def Leppard's next album, his in-the-works autobiography, his amazing abs, veganism and, yes, those infamous Def Leppard backstage passes. ...

Football League Week 2: 5 Teams That Impressed This Weekend
The second weekend of the League Season is finished and we’ve seen some teams continue their impressive starts, others continue their not so impressive starts and many teams get the first points on the board this season.

Last weekend threw up some notable surprises, with Oxford demolishing Portsmouth, Newport County hitting the ground running on their football league return and Championship new boys Yeovil Town picking up a surprise away victory at Milwall.

Following on from Tuesday’s Capital One Cup ties this weekend was jam packed with excitement, surprises and fantastic performances, here’s my pick for this weekends most impressive performances…

5. Chesterfield

Result: Chesterfield 2-0 Cheltenham

Chesterfield started the season as most people’s (including mine) favourites for promotion this season. After a narrowly missed attempt at the play-offs last season Paul Cook’s men are hoping to go a few steps further this time around.

Dolly Parton
20 Cover Songs More Famous Than The Originals
Dolly Parton
History has shown us that not every musical hit is unique to the artist. Take Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You." When that catchy tune fell into the hands of the late Whitney Houston, the powerful ballad became an instant success, but many of the people caught humming the melody had no idea a blonde bombshell was the mastermind behind the hit.

Houston's rendition is just one a number of cover songs that eventually became more famous than the originals. We've compiled a list of some of these beloved gems below; let us know which ones surprised you in the comments.

1. "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinead O'Connor (original by Prince/The Family)

O'Connor's breathy song was actually written by "Purple Rain" genius Prince for one of his side projects, The Family. But the Irish songstress was the one whose tears actually brought it to the general public.

2. "All...

Sex Pistols' 'Pretty Vacant' to Be Used in TV Ad
Punk legends the Sex Pistols have agreed to allow their hit song "Pretty Vacant" to be used in a television commercial for the first time. Former frontman Johnny Rotten, real name John Lydon, was slated for "selling out" when he appeared in U.K. TV adverts promoting Country Life butter in 2008.

Lydon defended his choice to star in the clips as it funded his reunion with his other band Public Image Ltd. (PiL) - and now his fellow former bandmembers have joined in his passion for commercials.

The group has agreed to allow bosses at bookmakers William Hill to use its 1977 track "Pretty Vacant" as the backing for the firm's adverts marking the start of the Champion's League soccer season, which sees Europe's top teams compete. And as a bonus for giving bosses the go-ahead to use the song, bandmembers Lydon, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock have been allowed to place a $750 wager,...

John Never Liked ‘Sex Pistols’
July 20, 2010: John Lydon, the legendary frontman for Sex Pistols, revealed that he never liked the name of the group. His band comprised of Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock, later replaced by the awesome Sid Vicious, said that they tried out a variety of names before sticking to ‘Sex Pistols’.

John, who is also called Johnny Rotten, says that he was all the time unhappy with the ‘twee’ moniker. He says that he was never fond of the ‘Sex Pistols’ moniker and found it really strange.

However, in spite of his discontent, he thinks it always could have been worse. He says that if it was.

Malcolm McLaren's punk Bambi
Roger Ebert has just released a draft of the mockumentary script he wrote for the Sex Pistols svengali in 1977

The online publication of Roger Ebert's Anarchy in the UK film script, in the wake of the death of Malcolm McLaren, uncovers one of the more bizarre episodes in the Sex Pistols' story. It provides a barely fictional snapshot of the group at the height of their public notoriety, and raises the intriguing question of what the film would have been like.

The idea for a Sex Pistols film had been first mooted in February 1977, after the group was sacked by Emi: McLaren was obsessed with entering the heart of the media industry – where the big money was. After discussions with Peter Cook stalled, McLaren sponsored the making of Sex Pistols Number 1: an extraordinary montage of Sex Pistols TV News footage that is rarely seen.

In the summer of...

My search for the real Robin Hood
Ridley Scott claims his new film starring Russell Crowe will be the most historically accurate ever. But what do we actually know about the real outlaw and his merrie men?

In pictures: men in tights from Errol Flynn to Russell Crowe

'Robin Hood was almost certainly a pedestrian," David Crook, the retired former assistant keeper of public records at the Public Record Office, tells me over tea one afternoon at his home in Grantham. Robin, in other words, had no horse. This is significant, because, as I settle down to try to unravel the eight centuries of myth and legend that have accreted around the outlaw, I am looking at a still from the new Ridley Scott movie, which will open the Cannes film festival on 12 May. Russell Crowe – looking the spit of Maximus, the hero of Gladiator, with cropped hair, bloodied cheek and an expression of furious determination – is astride a horse.

Punk icons the Sex Pistols are to release their first-ever concert movie.

Cameras caught the original Pistols line-up, Johnny Rotten, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock, onstage and backstage at London's Brixton Academy last year.

The end result will feature in The Sex Pistols: There'll Always Be An England, which was directed by Julien Temple, who first filmed the group in 1976.

The Dvd package will include a Temple-directed feature called The Knowledge, which features each band member revisiting the neighbourhood of his youth.
