Mo’Nique‘s commanding presence has made her a thrilling comedienne, a ferocious talk show host (not to mention an effective emcee at the Apollo), and an Academy Award-winning actress.
In the four years since she picked up an Oscar for her universally lauded work in Lee Daniels‘ Precious as a monstrous, tragic mother, she’s chosen projects selectively and spent more time with her husband and three kids. Thankfully for us, she’s returning to the big screen with Blackbird, director Patrik-Ian Polk‘s feature about a teenage boy (Julian Walker) who struggles with his sexuality, religion, and familial woes in a small Southern Baptist town. Mo’Nique plays the boy’s religious, confused mother who, along with her husband (Isaiah Washington), questions her son’s identity.

If you’ve spent any amount of time browsing through the titles on the Xbox Live Indie Games store, there’s a good chance you’ve seen the work of Jonathan and David Flook, better known as Silver Dollar Games. Essentially, they’re a couple of brothers just having some fun and making some really silly games. The subjects of their games have included flatulence, telemarketers, pickup lines, animal sounds, fortune cookies, whiny children and trying to keep a cat away from your food. Oh, and cooties.
Aside from a few guidelines concerning things like sex and violence, Microsoft’s Indie Games program allows pretty much anyone to create and sell any sort of game that they can imagine. But like a stuffy socialite in a Three Stooges short, some people just don’t like to see others being silly and having fun. In certain circles of the Internet, Silver...

HoYay—short for "Homoeroticism, Yay!"—celebrates the sexual potential of male-male relationships. Proponents and auteurs of HoYay in contemporary television series—including such shows as Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Suits, Hawaii Five-0, Sherlock, Community, and Merlin—argue that the intimate relationships highlighted between key male protagonists both mirror and suggest male-male romantic relationships—in short, duos like Derek and Stiles and Merlin and Arthur are gay without being gay. In order to ably name these relationships, they use the term homoerotic, describing not only what is present onscreen but also what becomes present in a culture that extends beyond what is depicted—in fan fiction, slash, ‘shipping blogs, and in the imaginations of both the viewer and possibly the creator of the shows as well.
Homoeroticism has a long history. The earliest surviving fictions, the ancient Sumerian epics of Gilgamesh, feature what has been described as a homoerotic relationship between the...

Cutie Matt Doyle is joining the Broadway production of The Book of Mormon as Elder Price. Current Elder Price Nic Rouleau has been tapped to lead the second touring company of the hit musical. Matt is really one of the sweetest guys on Broadway, and I couldn't be more thrilled for him.
Bradlee Manning is offering to plead guilty to some charges in the WikiLeaks case, but not the major charges the government has levied against him, such as providing aid and comfort to the enemy.
McG is set to direct the upcoming film about the Magic Castle. I'm somewhat interested because Neil Patrick Harris is deeply involved with the Magic Castle, serving on the board, so maybe we can get some Magical Doogie?
In what was a clear attempt to gain official (as opposed to their existing shadow power) power, Hank the Cat came in third in the Senate race in Virginia,...

Paging Annie Potts - Please come to Dr. Freed's Office. Annie Potts will star opposite Kyle Howard and Joel David Moore in the pilot of USA's comedy Paging Dr. Freed, written by Michael Feldman and helmed by Marc Buckland. Deadline reports that the single-camera comedy follows David and Jonathan, brothers who are gynecologists and inherit their father's practice after he suffers he dies from a heart attack while "playing doctor" with a sexy young secretary. Potts will apparently play the overbearing, medling mother who dislikes Jonathan's wife (played by Leslie Grossman of 10 Things I Hate About You, Nip/Tuck). Potts is also in a recurring role on Animal Practice for NBC, and was in Robert Harling's recently-canceled ABC comedy Gcb with Leslie Bibb.

Mo’Nique’s older brother finally apologized for molesting her as a child for the first time on Oprah — but one psychologist wonders if he’s really sorry, or just capitalizing on his sister’s fame.
Mo’Nique was repeatedly molested by her older brother when she was a child, and it has taken 37 years for him to come clean and apologize. A little too conveniently — right after his sister won an Academy Award, in fact — Gerald Imes finally admitted his sexual abuse and begged his sister’s forgiveness on Oprah April 19.
Does his nationally syndicated apology seem heartfelt, or just a desperate bid to capitalize on his Mo’Nique’s newfound fame? One psychologist thinks Gerald’s remorse is completely fabricated.
“The apology of Mo’Nique’s brother is suspect because of the time and place where he made it,” Beverly Hills-based psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman tells HollywoodLife.com.

By Harvey Karten - Isn't it great to live in New York City, where next-door neighbors in your apartment building don't know your name and don't care? Unfriendly? Perhaps. But who needs the opposite? Certainly not one Aaron (Zohar Strauss), the principal in Haim Tabakman's freshman picture about a fellow in his thirties who lives on one of the winding streets of Jerusalem's ultra-orthodox neighborhoods. The snoopy people of the area know everybody's business and they care enough to send the very worst packing if they don't like what he's doing. And what an "evil" person is doing, in their estimation, is to violate some aspect of the first Five Books of the Bible. Ruth and Naomi, David and Jonathan, and Daniel and Ashpenaz may have had more than casual friendships with each other, but Leviticus 18:22 states "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with women: it is abomination.
