Based on Riordan’s second book in the original “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” quintet, the second season of Disney’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” has already made some key casting announcements.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) on Thursday revealed the nominations for the third annual Children’s and Family Emmy Awards, which will take place in Los Angeles on March 15.

According to NATAS, the “standalone competition spotlights the pinnacle of creativity and innovation in children’s entertainment.”

Additionally, two winners and an honorable mention in the juried category, Pubic Service Initiative, were announced on Thursday. Winners in the juried individual achievement in animation categories will be announced early next year, as will the lifetime achievement nominee and ceremony host.

The 2025 Children’s and Family Emmy Awards announced its nominations on Thursday. This is the third year since these categories were separated from the Daytime Emmys in an extensive restructuring of the television academies’ TV awards. While discussing his involvement with Mufasa: The Lion King with ScreenRant, Lin-Manuel Miranda confirmed that he will not only reprise his role as Hermes in Percy Jackson Season 2 but his scenes have been finished. Replacing the late great Lance Reddick in any of his ongoing shows is a Herculean task for any actor, but Disney might have found the person capable of doing it for Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Reddick played none other than Zeus, the King of the Greek Gods, in the show's debut season. The beloved actor passed away shortly after production wrapped on Season 1, aged 60. While some of his past roles in ongoing franchises, like Charon in John Wick, reached a natural conclusion, Zeus plays a major part in Rick Riordan's novels, and the show can't survive without the character.

Per Variety, Courtney B. Vance will take over from Lance Reddick as Zeus in Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Vance is a two-time Emmy winning actor, best known for his roles in The Hunt for Red October, Hamburger Hill, Dangerous Minds, and American Crime Story.

In the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Lance Reddick appeared as Zeus in what turned out to be one the beloved actor's final roles. Moving forward with the show meant recasting the key role, and it's now been revealed who will be succeeding Reddick as Zeus.

Per Variety, award-winning actor Courtney B. Vance is set to play Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Vance is a veteran of the screen with his accomplishments including Primetime Emmy Award wins for his roles in The People v. O.J. Simpson and Lovecraft Country. He's also known for playing Assistant D.A. Ron Carver in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, with his other TV roles including FlashForward, 61st Street, and, more recently, Ryan Murphy's Grotesquerie. After just two years, Cumulus Media is throwing in the towel on Kgo-am’s stint as a sports betting station.

Starting next week, Kgo (810 Am) will swap formats with its sister station, Ksfo (560 Am), and will once again start broadcasting news and talk programming to the San Francisco Bay Area, The Desk has learned.

As part of the change, Cumulus is also switching things up at its sports station Knbr, which will move out of its broadcast facility at 750 Battery Street and operate full-time from its studios at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Knbr has the local radio rights to San Francisco 49ers games; the team plays at Levi’s Stadium.

Furthermore, Knbr is introducing a new schedule that will see midday co-host Greg Silver and 49ers play-by-play announcer Greg Papa host a new afternoon show between 10 a.

The Disney+ original series is an adaptation of the Rick Riordan book series of the same name, following the adventures of demigods Percy (Walker Scobell) and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) - who are the children of Poseidon and Athena respectively - and satyr Grover (Aryan Simhadri). The upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, which adapts the 2006 book The Sea of Monsters, has already added several new cast members, including Daniel Diemer as Percy's Cyclops half-brother Tyson and Tamara Smart as Thalia, the daughter of Zeus.

On the official Disney+ Instagram account, the streamer shared a video of The United States vs. Billie Holiday star Andra Day announcing that she had been cast as Athena, the goddess of wisdom, in Percy Jackson and The Olympians season 2. She shared that she "cant wait to bring her to life and work alongside such talented actors.

Per Variety, Aew has just signed a multi-year multimedia rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. Reportedly, the deal is valued at upwards of $150 million per year, though specific details have not been shared. Resulting from the lucrative deal, Aew's Dynamite and Collision shows will continue to air respectively on TBS and TNT, but they'll also stream simultaneously on Max in the United States. Additionally, the shows will be made available to stream on-demand starting in January 2025, right when WWE Raw makes the move to Netflix. Later in 2025, Aew live pay-per-views will also be offered at a discounted price per event.

A promotional teaser for Percy Jackson season 2 was unveiled at D23 this weekend, revealing that the hit Disney+ show is officially in production. Narrated by an older Percy (Walker Scobell), the teaser largely recaps the events of season 1, including Percy discovering his demigod heritage, fighting mythological monsters, and preventing a war between the Greek Gods from destroying civilization. It then cuts to new footage of Percy stepping into a chariot with Poseidon's insignia on it, teasing "that is just the beginning" before re-confirming season 2 as an adaptation of Rick Riordan's The Sea of Monsters novel.

While Scobell initially selected his duel against Ares (Adam Copeland), he switched to Percy's underwater scenes, calling them "super fun for me to film because it's just like... I would come up every twenty minutes because I'd be on oxygen tanks. It was so awesome." Jeffries agreed, loving the Waterland setpieces because "the water was warm and they had jets too so it felt like a big jacuzzi," before teasing Scobell about a moment on-set where the jets hit him at full blast.
