Scott Adkins takes his high-flying kicks and is forced to use them the fighting ring again, but it turns out to be in an unlikely place… at a Pow camp behind enemy lines during World War II. The action star developed the story for Prisoner of War, which was previously called Death March. Netflix subscribers will soon be able to stream Dwayne Johnson's first leading role in a movie. The Mummy spinoff The Scorpion King is set to arrive on the streaming service next month.

Beginning Nov. 1, The Scorpion King will be available to stream on Netflix. Leading indie distributor Well Go USA has picked up North American rights to “Death March,” an upcoming WWII action film starring and conceived by action star Scott Adkins.

In Adkins’ story, scripted by Marc Clebanoff, a British airman washes ashore after being ejected from his plane and becomes a prisoner in a Japanese-run Pow camp. While waiting to join the infamous Bataan death march, the airman is tortured by the camp commander and is forced to fight for his life against an array of skilled Japanese warriors. Adkins portrays the airman. Veteran actor Peter Shinkoda plays the camp commander.

Under the direction of Louis Mandylor, the film has recently wrapped production in the Subic Bay and Bataan region of the Philippines. Release plans have not yet been finalized.

Hollywood actor Danny Trejo has been cast for the role of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in “1521,” an upcoming historical epic that charts the pre-colonial era of the Philippines depicting the Battle of Mactan, Variety has learned.

Produced by Filipino-American filmmaker Francis B. Lara Ho of Inspire Studios, “1521” is a U.S.-Philippines production that follows the journey of Magellan, who led the Spanish expedition and was one of the first Europeans to travel to Asia. He reached the archipelago that is known as Philippines today on March 16, 1521.

The script of “1521” was penned by Mary Krell-Oishi. Principal photography is expected to start this month in Palawan.

Veronica Cartwright has been cast in the upcoming biopic “How to Talk with Spirits,” Variety has learned.

“The Birds” and “Alien” star will play real-life psychic June Ahern in the supernatural thriller based on Ahern’s life and book of the same title.

The indie film, directed and produced by “Shopping for Fangs” and “Drift” filmmaker Quentin Lee, sees the retired psychic working with law enforcement to find missing people in the Bay Area. Using her special talents, Ahern helps the San Francisco police solve the murder of her client’s daughter, whose ghost relentlessly haunts her loved ones.

“I’m very excited to be playing June Ahern,” said Cartwright. “Having spoken to June, who is alive and well, she told me it’s not just that she saw the incident, but she felt the emotion of the the person that was murdered and embodied those emotions. I’m looking forward to the challenge.

Lionsgate Films will distribute Marty Thomas' surreal horror thriller Killer Holiday. This film, from Ridiculous Pictures, will be released in November on home video formats. The film is set in an amusement park. And, a new trailer for Killer Holiday has been unleashed. In the clip, eight friends set off on Route 66 for fun and good times. Unknowingly, one in their group is a serial killer and he hopes to ensnare them in an isolated locale. Murder and mystery ensue in this second trailer for the film. This week Anchor Bay released the steamy new thriller 247˚F, which follows a group of 20-somethings on a rural getaway who accidentally get locked in their cabin's sauna and find themselves with only a few hours to get out before the heat gets the best of them.

Directed by Levan Bakhia and Bega Jgubria, 247˚F stars Scout Taylor-Compton, Travis Van Winkle, Michael Copon, Christina Ulloa and horror's resident badass Tyler Mane.

Recently Dread Central had the opportunity to jump on the phone briefly with Mane, who has played iconic characters throughout his career from Sabretooth to Michael Myers and has successfully made the leap from the world of professional wrestling almost 20 years ago now to become a writer/producer and star of his own independent horror project, Compound Fracture.

In both films, characters are locked in a room as the temperature rises and 247°F is the point at which the human body expires. 247°F has brought together a recognizable cast. Scout Taylor-Compton has starred in Rob Zombie's Halloween films while Travis Van Winkle was in the Friday the 13th (2009) remake.
