Xochitl Gomez is shaking up the Marvel Cinematic Universe with her debut as LGBTQ+ Latina superhero America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, bringing with her the representation someone like Marvel’s Victoria Alonso would’ve relished seeing while growing up.
“What it would’ve meant is to have had a tad more understanding of the person that I was and that I was growing into being was not invisible,” Marvel exec and Doctor Strange 2 EP Alonso, who shares a 9-year-old daughter with designer wife Imelda Corcoran, told Deadline at the film’s premiere Monday night in Hollywood.
“I think visibility at any age is incredibly important whether you’re 10, 20, 30 or 80,” she continued. “To have your people and to have someone who says, ‘I am, and it’s Ok. I am, and I am powerful. I am, and I belong.’ I think any young adult could have that today,...

Who knew Victoria Alonso could sing?
Marvel Studios’ president of physical and postproduction, visual effects and animation production broke out into song not once, but twice when she was presented with the Visionary Award at the Outfest Legacy Awards on Saturday night at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
She sang a verse of B.o.B’s “Beautiful Girl All Over the World” to her wife, Imelda Corcoran. Toward the end of her remarks, Alonso warbled “I Am What I Am” from “La Cage Aux Folles” in English and Spanish.
Musical chops aside, Alonso delivered a passionate speech about LGBTQ equality and visibility. “We have tried to stir it up and sometimes the critics are not with us. That’s Ok. That’s Ok,” Alonso said of her work at Marvel. “We thank you for being a critic. We thank you for writing about us. And the fans will decide.

This article contains spoilers for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Midway through The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’s third episode, “Power Broker,” Helmut Zemo (now fully recognized as a Baron) demonstrates some impressive quick thinking.
Alongside an undercover Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, Zemo is in the Lowtown underworld of Madripoor trying to score a meeting with the Power Broker. When things are going poorly and the trio is forced to defend themselves, Zemo decides to pretend that Bucky is still the brainwashed Winter Soldier who can be controlled through some helpful Hydra keywords like “Winter Soldier. Attack.”
This is a fine plan that has its intended effect as the group is brought in to see one of the Power Broker’s underlings, Selby (Imelda Corcoran). But it also raises some questions as to how Zemo was so confident the ruse would work. How, exactly do the citizens...

For a show that only has six episodes, “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” got off to a slow start, but the pace has been steadily picking up ever since Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) reunited early in the second episode. With this week’s third episode, titled “Power Broker,” the series finally got the adrenaline shot it needed as the duo attempted to figure out who was producing the super-soldier serum and why. In the process, the episode also saw the return of not only Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) and Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), but also Ayo (Florence Kasumba) of the Dora Milaje. Ayo’s appearance came in a last-second reveal that fans may or may not have seen coming depending on their ability to pay attention to small details.
But let’s back up for a second. The episode, written by “John Wick” (2014) writer Derek Kolstad,...

Victoria Alonso, as the producer of the money-minting Marvel Universe franchise, one of the most influential and powerful people in Hollywood, splashed out $4.65 million to upgrade her residential circumstances in the largely unsung but conveniently central and increasingly expensive Mar Vista neighborhood sandwiched between Los Angeles’s Venice Beach and Culver City. Sequestered behind secured gates and hidden behind a tall hedge and an even taller stand of tropical foliage, the multi-winged Mediterranean-meets-Monterey Colonial-style main house, built in 1928 but largely stripped of original interior architectural detailing, measures in at an ample but short of humongous 6,013-square-feet with four and potentially more bedrooms and four full and two half bathrooms. A guesthouse atop a detached three-car garage offers flexible, open-plan additional living space with wet bar and full bathroom.

Marvel Studios' success has been unparalleled and unprecedented, but among the chief complaints among many fans for years was the lack of diversity, both in ethnic heroes and female heroes as well. Marvel has most definitely addressed both issues with the blockbuster hit Black Panther, and the upcoming Captain Marvel, but Victoria Alonso, Marvel's executive VP of physical production, hopes to see a day where half of the McU slate is directed by women.
Before joining Marvel in 2006, Victoria Alonso worked in the male-dominated world of visual effects, working on films such as The 6th Day, Cats and Dogs, Darkness Falls, The Core, Big Fish, Fifty First Dates and Kingdom of Heaven. She joined Marvel as the chief of visual effects, serving as both a producer and a visual effects producer on the first McU movie, Iron Man, while also producing the rest of Marvel's early movies before being...
