A quartet of French, Australian and English stars are set to come together for upcoming feature “Burnt Piano.”

Isabelle Huppert, Geoffrey Rush Abbie Cornish and Ray Winstone have joined the cast of the film, which is based on the stage play by Australian writer and playwright Justin Fleming. Newcomer Tarquin Cameron will also star.

Adapted by Fleming, the film — an Australian-French co-production — is being directed by Fred Schepisi and is described as “a tragedy, a comedy, a drama and a mystery.”

Set in the late 1980s, “Burnt Piano” revolves around a boutique bookstore owner (Cornish) who is infatuated with and would do anything to meet famed playwright Samuel Beckett (Rush), much to the chagrin of her father, a mediocre short story writer (Winstone). Cornish intrigues in an implausible thriller about a woman who wakes up in a police station with no memory of how she got there

When Rebecca (Abbie Cornish) wakes up handcuffed in a police interview room with no memory of how she got there, something feels off. The officers grilling her about a hit and run seem legit at first: a detective (Moon Bloodgood) with a hard, mean stare is classic bad cop, assisted by a genial sidekick (Laz Alonso) who walks in with doughnuts. But the precinct is grotty even by police standards. What’s wrong with the place? You don’t have to wait long to find out. Just 12 minutes in, this overheated psychological thriller noir delivers an almighty plot twist. Like the movie, it’s more ridiculous than interesting.

Despite its B or even C-movie approach, Detained is given a bit of weight by an intriguing performance by Cornish.

Abbie Cornish filmed scenes as the late model Anna Nicole Smith at the West Hollywood LGBTQ Pride Parade in West Hollywood, California, on Sunday for her new film Trust Me, I’m a Doctor.

The 41-year-old Australian native was pictured with costar Kal Penn, 47, during the festive proceedings, recreating a past outing Smith had at a June 12, 2005, Pride Parade.

Cornish donned a silver faux alligator skin dress with open sides in replicating the look just like Smith – who died in 2007 at the age of 39 of an accidental drug overdose. Smith was a featured guest during the 2005 parade.

Take any random film directed by Zack Snyder, and hordes of his fans will probably argue that the theatrical ‘cut’ falls short of capturing the true brilliance of the director. He pulled the same trick once again with both "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and, most infamously, his "Zack Snyder's Justice League" experiment that resulted in a completely different movie altogether compared to the theatrical cut. Zack Snyder loves a director’s cut. Most of his movies have received some manner of alternate cut over the years, but there’s still one project he’d like to make a proper director’s cut of — Sucker Punch.

Sucker Punch didn’t receive the best reviews upon release in 2011, but Snyder told Empire that he’d love to “fix” the movie if given the chance. “The only movie I would change is Sucker Punch, because it never really got finished correctly,” Snyder said. “Even the director’s cut is not really the correct cut. It’s really just an extended version. If I had the chance, I would fix that movie.”

Snyder added that he already has everything he requires to assemble a director’s cut of Sucker Punch; all he needs is permission.

Exclusive: Sundance documentary Never Look Away, the directorial debut of actress Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess), has been sold by XYZ to Greenwich Entertainment for all rights in North America, and to Kaleidoscope for all rights in UK.

Snyder believes the current version of Sucker Punch is not fully realized and wants to improve it. Snyder has a history of releasing extended or alternate cuts of his movies that are often considered improvements by audiences.

Augsberger died suddenly on Monday, November 27, at his home in the Hollywood Hills, members of his family told The Hollywood Reporter.

The German-born and trained attorney was best known as the longtime consultant and North American representative for Herbert Kloiber‘s German mini-major Tele Muenchen Group (Tmg). After Leonine acquired Tmg in 2019, Augsberger continued to advise the company on film projects and acquisitions.

Over more than two decades, Augsberger acquired hundreds of film and TV projects for the German market from producers, sales agents and studios, making him one of the most important figures on the independent scene. Before Zack Snyder turned his sights to the DC Universe, he gave us Sucker Punch, a psychological fantasy action movie that was his first film based on an original concept. While the film was a box office and critical disappointment, it has developed a cult following over the years who have grown to appreciate the over-the-top fantasy, but Snyder believes he didn’t go far enough.

“Sucker Punch is probably the most obvious example of straightforward, pure satire that I’ve made,” Zack Snyder told Total Film. “And I still think I didn’t go far enough, because a lot of people thought that it was just a movie about scantily clad girls dancing around in a brothel. I’m like, ‘Really? Did you see Watchmen? That film is completely a superhero deconstruction from the drop, which is all Alan Moore. That’s the thing I’ve found really interesting and motivating throughout my career.

In all the iterations of Jack Ryan, Cathy's character shines and is portrayed as quick-witted and bold, making her a core character. Zack Snyder’s surreal film Sucker Punch has had an extended Blu-ray version released. But the director has raised fanboy and fangirl hopes by stating in a recent interview that we ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

The Blu-ray added 18 minutes to the theatrical version, but Snyder has stated that it wasn’t his version and there are still a lot of things viewers haven’t been able to enjoy from the film.

As with his much-clamored-for director’s cut on Justice League, fans hold out hope that someday, they may get the complete vision.

Sucker Punch is a sci-fi adventure centered on Babydoll, a young girl who’s locked in a mental hospital. In an attempt to get away from her awful reality, she imagines an alternate world. But from there, she imagines multiple other realities, leading to a deep ending.
