A quartet of French, Australian and English stars are set to come together for upcoming feature “Burnt Piano.”
Isabelle Huppert, Geoffrey Rush Abbie Cornish and Ray Winstone have joined the cast of the film, which is based on the stage play by Australian writer and playwright Justin Fleming. Newcomer Tarquin Cameron will also star.
Adapted by Fleming, the film — an Australian-French co-production — is being directed by Fred Schepisi and is described as “a tragedy, a comedy, a drama and a mystery.”
Set in the late 1980s, “Burnt Piano” revolves around a boutique bookstore owner (Cornish) who is infatuated with and would do anything to meet famed playwright Samuel Beckett (Rush), much to the chagrin of her father, a mediocre short story writer (Winstone). Reluctantly aided by her son troubled (Cameron) and vehemently resisted by the playwright’s devoted but overprotective wife (Huppert), she ropes her family into a quixotic quest...

"Pride and Prejudice" is the kind of novel that feels modern no matter when it's read, but Jane Austen herself died in 1817, more than 70 years removed from the invention of motion pictures. In other words, she probably could never have imagined that, hundreds of years in the future, there would be so many recorded dramatic adaptations of her most celebrated work -- nor that one of them, 2005's "Pride & Prejudice," would be able to capture its spirit so brilliantly as to renew passion for the story of Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley) and Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen) for a whole generation.
Arguably the best Jane Austen adaptation, that Deborah Moggach-scripted, Joe Wright-directed take on the novel was so perfect -- so impeccably attentive to the sharp social observation, the warm family dynamic, the richness of local and temporal texture, and the soul-stirring romanticism of the source material --...

Cornish intrigues in an implausible thriller about a woman who wakes up in a police station with no memory of how she got there
When Rebecca (Abbie Cornish) wakes up handcuffed in a police interview room with no memory of how she got there, something feels off. The officers grilling her about a hit and run seem legit at first: a detective (Moon Bloodgood) with a hard, mean stare is classic bad cop, assisted by a genial sidekick (Laz Alonso) who walks in with doughnuts. But the precinct is grotty even by police standards. What’s wrong with the place? You don’t have to wait long to find out. Just 12 minutes in, this overheated psychological thriller noir delivers an almighty plot twist. Like the movie, it’s more ridiculous than interesting.
Despite its B or even C-movie approach, Detained is given a bit of weight by an intriguing performance by Cornish.

The 2014 RoboCop reboot had one of the most impressively star-studded casts of any recent big-budget action movie, and it shouldve been successful enough to launch a franchise. Just over two decades after RoboCop 3 was panned as the worst entry in the RoboCop series (and one of the worst movies ever made), the franchise was rebooted for a modern blockbuster age. Elite Squads Jos Padilha took the helm in the directors chair, and original writers Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner worked on the script.
Altered Carbon star Joel Kinnaman inherited the lead role of Alex Murphy from Peter Weller and he was backed up by some of the biggest movie stars in the world in supporting roles. Amazon recently announced its developing a Jack Ryan movie connected to the Prime Video show, but it must avoid one crucial mistake that hurt the shows middle seasons. John Krasinski who starred as the shows titular CIA Analyst, will be the fourth actor to play Jack Ryan in a film, following in the steps of Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck, and Harrison Ford. For Amazons upcoming film, its already been confirmed that Krasinski will be returning as well as Wendell Pierce who portrays James Greer. Michael Kelly is also in talks to reprise his role as Mike November in the film.

Amazon MGM Studios announced a Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan movie, which means John Krasinski will accomplish feats no other Jack Ryan actor has. The upcoming Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan feature film will be directed by Andrew Bernstein, who was executive producer and director of Prime Video's Jack Ryan season 2. Co-executive producer and Jack Ryan season 4 writer Aaron Rabin is writing the script. Krasinski is producing the new Jack Ryan feature film with Wendell Pierce and Michael Kelly set to return as James Greer and Mike November.
Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan ran for 4 seasons on Prime Video from 2018-2023. John Krasinski's version of Jack Ryan was based on the character from Tom Clancy's novels but didn't directly adapt the author's stories. Instead, Prime Video's Jack Ryan series told new tales set in the modern-day geopolitical arena, rebooting Jack Ryan and his familiar cast of characters like Wendell Pierce's James Greer and Abbie Cornish's Dr.

While Ridley Scott's Prometheus is undoubtedly flawed, it is underrated, and one of its failings is not unique to the film. As the fifth movie in the Alien sci-fi horror franchise, it is hard not to compare the latest movies in the Alien franchise to the first two, and the iconic character Ellen Ripley. Though each subsequent installment in the Alien series features at least one strong female character, none have yet reached the popularity or cultural status that Ripley did. As for Prometheus, it had Charlize Theron's Elizabeth Shaw, the archaeologist whose quest sparks the events of the movie.
Prometheus's ambiguous opening scene introduces the Engineers, who engineer DNA to create life on other planets, including humans. This fact causes the religious Shaw to struggle with her faith, and she ends up opposing the Engineers, who are returning to Earth with the Xenomorphs to destroy human life there.

Supernatural crime thrillers offer a distinctive appeal, seamlessly blending eerie atmospheres and inexplicable phenomena with the tense realities of criminal investigations. A unique amalgamation of genres, the supernatural crime thriller is captivating, elevating some of the best true-crime tales with the introduction or implication of supernatural dealings.
Whether pursued by seasoned detectives or uncovered by ordinary individuals, these investigations often blend clairvoyance and supernatural elements, incorporating trends from some iconic supernatural horror movies, ultimately providing deeper insights into the case and revealing hidden, otherworldly influences behind the crime. In such cases, the reality of the situation goes far beyond initial appearances.
Solace Afonso Poyart, 2015
Solace captures the essence of the supernatural crime thriller genre with Anthony Hopkins leading the intriguing premise. Geostorm was a critical and commercial bomb, losing $71.6 million, with 60% of the film re-written and re-shot. Director Dean Devlin has expressed interest in a sequel or director's cut, despite being replaced during production. Gerard Butler's recent success in disaster movies, like Greenland and its upcoming sequel, and the recent box office success of Twisters could further redeem the genre after Geostorm's failure.
As Gerard Butler forges ahead in the genre with a different property, Dean Devlin is candidly reflecting on his experience with Geostorm. Zack Snyder has developed an infamous reputation for being divisive among fans. While no one can deny that he is an auteur with a specific stylish approach to filmmaking, his work has not necessarily impressed the fans and the general public. His first two films Dawn of The Dead and 300 remain his most beloved works which showcased the best of Snyder as a director.
Gerard Butler as King Leonidas in Zack Snyder’s 300 | Warner Bros. Pictures
The latter was an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. The director approached Warner Bros. for the adaptation and had bold ideas on how to execute the film. While initially skeptical about the film, Snyder’s one-take sequence that he shot for the film impressed studio heads big time which led to the film getting greenlit.

When Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch premiered in 2011, it was met with a polarizing reception. Critics and audiences were off-put by its unique style, ambitious narrative structure, and the way it blended genres. As someone who initially viewed the film through a less mature lens, I found myself unimpressed by its convoluted plot and perceived lack of substance. Hell, I even watched it twice upon release to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. As time went on, I had moved on from the stale taste it bestowed upon me. So much so that I had even skipped any future Snyder offerings, yes, this includes his Dceu output. Maybe I’ll get to those one day. Who knows? However, one thing I do know is for certain: Zack Snyder loves himself a director’s cut of his films. Recently, he has expressed his determination to give his first original film the ol’ Snyder Cut treatment,...

Take any random film directed by Zack Snyder, and hordes of his fans will probably argue that the theatrical ‘cut’ falls short of capturing the true brilliance of the director. From the much-discussed Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) to the director’s extended take on Watchmen (2009), the director’s cuts are arguably even more beloved than the theatrical versions.
Although he is now able to release his favorite versions of most of his films thanks to his devoted fan base, Snyder still has one more film he’d like to try. According to Snyder, who recently spoke with Empire, he is still not satisfied with the way his 2011 flick Sucker Punch turned out, and thus, he still wants to “fix” it. Well, it seems fans might need to exercise some patience.

You know that famous quote commonly attributed to Alexander the Great about how he wept when there were no more worlds to conquer? We're starting to think that Zack Snyder feels much the same way, except that his version of conquering the world is more about finding ways to re-release his movies with extra footage attached at all costs.
To be fair, this isn't exactly a new phenomenon for Snyder. His 2004 "Dawn of the Dead" reboot eventually led to an unrated cut down the line and his comic book movie "Watchmen" ended up with several different versions post-release. He pulled the same trick once again with both "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and, most infamously, his "Zack Snyder's Justice League" experiment that resulted in a completely different movie altogether compared to the theatrical cut. He's planning on returning to the exact same well with his two-part "Rebel Moon" epic...

Zack Snyder loves a director’s cut. Most of his movies have received some manner of alternate cut over the years, but there’s still one project he’d like to make a proper director’s cut of — Sucker Punch.
Sucker Punch didn’t receive the best reviews upon release in 2011, but Snyder told Empire that he’d love to “fix” the movie if given the chance. “The only movie I would change is Sucker Punch, because it never really got finished correctly,” Snyder said. “Even the director’s cut is not really the correct cut. It’s really just an extended version. If I had the chance, I would fix that movie.”
Related Zack Snyder talks about why a director’s cut of Sucker Punch is unlikely
Snyder added that he already has everything he requires to assemble a director’s cut of Sucker Punch; all he needs is permission.

Ledger's breakout role in "10 Things I Hate About You" solidified his place in Hollywood with his talent and charm. Ledger's versatility shines through in films like "Candy" and "Brokeback Mountain," showcasing his emotional depth as an actor. Ledger's iconic portrayal of the Joker in "The Dark Knight" remains one of his most celebrated and influential performances in Hollywood.
With a career that spans a little under a decade, Heath Ledger's talent and versatility as an actor are evident in his best movies. Ledger's career began at home in Australia, starting with television shows and his movie debut in Blackrock. However, it wouldn't be long until he got his breakout role in 10 Things I Hate About You, establishing Ledger's talent and place in Hollywood.
Directors and actors who got the opportunity to work with him before his passing in 2008 have frequently praised Ledger for his commitment, intuition, and natural curiosity.

Roscoe's absence in Reacher season 2 mirrors Cathy's sudden departure from Jack Ryan. Both shows changed love interests in their second seasons, deviating from established relationships, which felt forced and unnecessary. Unlike Cathy's unexplained absence in Jack Ryan, the Reacher season 1 finale neatly writes off Roscoe but leaves room for a potential return in future seasons.
The fact that Willa Fitzgerald didn't return for Reacher season 2 has created an odd parallel with one of the show's biggest competitors. Despite being an instant hit with fans, Fitzgerald's Roscoe Conklin has so far been confined to the events of Reacher season 1. Strangely, another Amazon show has already followed a version of this character arc framework, and it could hold clues as to what lies ahead for the Reacher season 3 cast or beyond.

Director Zack Snyder plans to reshoot the ending of his controversial film Sucker Punch with the original cast. Snyder believes the current version of Sucker Punch is not fully realized and wants to improve it. Snyder has a history of releasing extended or alternate cuts of his movies that are often considered improvements by audiences.
Director Zack Snyder hopes to return to his controversial 2011 movie Sucker Punch and reshoot the ending with the original cast. Once described by Snyder himself as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns,” Sucker Punch served as Snyder’s fourth directorial outing and his first movie based on an entirely original concept. Despite being widely panned by critics and heavily criticized for its depiction of women, Sucker Punch would receive a stronger reception on its eventual home video release, with a previous R-rated extended cut adding over 18 minutes of additional footage to the movie.

Poor Things follows the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking,...

Before Zack Snyder turned his sights to the DC Universe, he gave us Sucker Punch, a psychological fantasy action movie that was his first film based on an original concept. While the film was a box office and critical disappointment, it has developed a cult following over the years who have grown to appreciate the over-the-top fantasy, but Snyder believes he didn’t go far enough.
“Sucker Punch is probably the most obvious example of straightforward, pure satire that I’ve made,” Zack Snyder told Total Film. “And I still think I didn’t go far enough, because a lot of people thought that it was just a movie about scantily clad girls dancing around in a brothel. I’m like, ‘Really? Did you see Watchmen? That film is completely a superhero deconstruction from the drop, which is all Alan Moore. That’s the thing I’ve found really interesting and motivating throughout my career.

In all the iterations of Jack Ryan, Cathy's character shines and is portrayed as quick-witted and bold, making her a core character. The earliest versions of Cathy focused on her role in her and Jack's family, but later adaptations gave her more agency and involvement in the story. Among the portrayals of Cathy, the version in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is the best, with a well-fleshed-out character who is central to the story.
All Jack Ryan adaptations include a version of Cathy, and while only one other featured as prominently as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’s Dr. Cathy Mueller, they all made the character shine in their respective movies and TV shows. A doctor in all the iterations, the original character in Tom Clancy’s novels was ophthalmologist Cathy Ryan, introduced as Jack’s wife and the mother of his children, just like in The Hunt for Red October,...

Zack Snyder’s surreal film Sucker Punch has had an extended Blu-ray version released. But the director has raised fanboy and fangirl hopes by stating in a recent interview that we ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
The Blu-ray added 18 minutes to the theatrical version, but Snyder has stated that it wasn’t his version and there are still a lot of things viewers haven’t been able to enjoy from the film.
As with his much-clamored-for director’s cut on Justice League, fans hold out hope that someday, they may get the complete vision.
Sucker Punch is a sci-fi adventure centered on Babydoll, a young girl who’s locked in a mental hospital. In an attempt to get away from her awful reality, she imagines an alternate world. But from there, she imagines multiple other realities, leading to a deep ending.
It’s been almost 10 years since the film came out.
