De La Hoya's Lawyer Slams Model's False Imprisonment Allegations
Oscar De La Hoya
A lawyer for retired boxing great Oscar De La Hoya has shot down allegations his client held a model hostage and forced her to engage in kinky sex acts during a drug-fuelled night in a New York hotel room last year.

Angelica Cecora claims the pair had consensual sex in the sports star's luxury suite at the Ritz Carlton Hotel last March, but she began fearing for her safety afterwards when De La Hoya started to show signs of bizarre behaviour.

The beauty, 25, alleges she was trapped in the room as the boxer dressed up in her underwear, ordered $300 (£188)-worth of cocaine and marijuana to be delivered to the hotel, and tried to coerce her into taking part in "disgusting" sexual acts.

De La Hoya, who owned up to his drug abuse last year, was slapped with a $5 million (£3.13 million) lawsuit by Cecora, who is suing for emotional distress, false imprisonment, assault and battery.

The case was heard in a New York Supreme Court on Wednesday, when the fighter's lawyers asked a judge to dismiss the suit.

After the hearing, Cecora told reporters, "Once 12 o'clock hit that night, he just started doing more and more drugs and wanted me to do more and more things... Things took a wild turn that I didn't sign up for."

But De La Hoya's lawyers are confident the legal action will soon be thrown out of court. The boxer's attorney, Judd Burstein, says, "These allegations are offensive and frivolous."

The former champion, who married Millie Corretjer in 2001, has since cleaned up his act after a stint in rehab and, in September, he confessed to lying about embarrassing photos in which he posed while dressed in a fishnet catsuit and high heels. The pictures were made public by his one-time Siberian mistress, who shopped around the images in a bid to prove she had romanced the cheating star in 2007.

De La Hoya Considered Suicide During Drug Battle
Oscar De La Hoya
Former boxing great Oscar De La Hoya came close to committing suicide after hitting "rock bottom" during a two-year battle with drugs and alcohol.

The retired fighter, nicknamed The Golden Boy, checked himself into a rehabilitation centre in California in May to seek help for a substance abuse problem.

At the time, he refused to divulge details about the exact cause of his addictions, but he has now come clean about the extent of his personal troubles in a candid interview with Spanish-language TV network Univision.

He says, "There were drugs, my drug of choice was cocaine and alcohol. Cocaine was recent. The last two years, last two-and-a-half years... I depended more on the alcohol than the cocaine."

De La Hoya admits the addictions were the start of a downward spiral and he found himself contemplating suicide during his darkest days.

He continues, "Rock bottom was recently. Within a couple of years, just thinking if my life was even worth it. I don't have the strength, I don't have the courage to take my own life but I was thinking about it."

De La Hoya's marriage to Puerto Rican singer/actress Millie Corretjer was also unravelling and he admits to cheating on his wife of 10 years - but the couple reunited after a brief separation.

The former boxing champ claims the rehab stint helped him turn his life around and he is now three months sober, thanks to the help of Alcoholics Anonymous support meetings.

De La Hoya was among the most revered boxers in the late 1990s. He quit the ring in 2009.
