Few directors appreciate and understand Stephen King's vision like Frank Darabont. This appreciation can be traced all the way back to the 1994 box office bomb turned beloved classic "The Shawshank Redemption," in which Darabont imbues an earnest prison drama with gripping dramatic stakes. It might be tempting to categorize a film like "Shawshank" as melodramatic, but this sentimental excess is so sincerely crafted that you will find genuine depth in the evolving narrative. After all, it's one of King's more optimistic non-horror stories, as everything boils down to the beauty of human ingenuity and our innate ability to grow in spite of external resistance.

Indie Zombie Thriller Alert: Collapse Comes to Town with Lots of Blood-thirsty Shamblers
A new independently shot zombie themed film is just completing and this latest feature takes place in Iowa. In the Collapse, a family tries to stay alive under zombie attack. There are also issues of starvation, with the family's patriarch using shotgun and radio transmissions to stay alive. How long will they last?

The film's first trailer is hosted below, along with the poster for the Collapse (seen left). This film is currently working on sound, so a release is not far off. Preview the film in all its chaotic madness below.

Husk Concept Poster Begs You to Join the Harvest
A new poster for After Dark Original Husk is available courtesy of Dread Central. The frame shows a scarecrow strapped to a cross, while a crow beckons "join the harvest" (Husk). After Dark Films is producing several horror original features with their partner the SyFy channel. Details for all the films are coming in bit by bit, but for Husk there is a full synopsis shown below.

The synopsis for Husk here:

"The story sees five friends on a weekend trip who become stranded in isolated farmland when crows attack their SUV. They soon realize that the cornfields are inhabited by reanimated human scarecrows who reproduce by killing and forcing their undead victims to join their ranks" (Dread).

Release Date: 2010.

Director/writer: Brett Simmons.

Cast: Devon Graye, Wes Chatham, C.J. Thomason, Tammin Sursok, Ben Easter, Michael Cornelison, Candice Rose, and Aaron Harpold.
