Netflix has released an official trailer for Unsolved Mysteries Volume 4. The new batch of five episodes will be dropping on the streaming platform on July 31.

There will be a variety of cases explored in the new volume. They include the story of a discovered severed head that still has not been identified; a woman who died mysteriously in a basement; eyewitness reports of a flying creature in the Chicago area; the search for justice following a young woman's brutal murder; and the case of Jack the Ripper, one of the most famous unsolved mysteries in history. 2022 marked the 35th anniversary of the premiere of the first Unsolved Mysteries TV special, but the show didn’t become a full-fledged series until October 5, 1988. Now we’ve learned that a special has been put together to celebrate that anniversary! This special is called Unsolved Mysteries: Behind the Legacy, and it has been announced (via The Wrap) that it will be screening at Alamo Drafthouse theatres nationwide on October 4th. Unsolved Mysteries has been airing, off and on, presented in different styles and by different hosts, for thirty-five years at this point. It all began with specials hosted by Raymond Burr, Karl Malden, and Robert Stack in 1987, followed by a series that went for several years with Stack as the host. The official trailer for Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries Vol. 2” is out, and it features “haunting” footage from real-life cases that is sure to give you goosebumps.

The second installment of Netflix’s reboot of the classic mystery TV series comes out Oct. 19, featuring six all-new stories that have left investigators scratching their heads for years.

Netflix is bringing you more “Unsolved Mysteries” this fall, setting a premiere date for the second half of the rebooted show’s first season.

The streaming service said Wednesday that Volume 2 of Season 1 will launch Oct. 19, just over three months after the July 1 debut of Volume 1. The first six episodes covered the cold cases of Rey Rivera, Patrice Endres, Alonzo Brooks and Lena Chapin, among others.

The Netflix rebooted series Unsolved Mysteries could really use someone like Robert Stack to lead audiences through these mysterious cold cases. He may not have been the biggest named crime-fighting icon, but he brought his Elliot Ness from the original The Untouchables to the scene. He also brought his trench coat. True crime shows are coming from all directions, and most of them follow a similar pattern which was laid out by Unsolved Mysteries. What set it apart were that voice and that trench coat.

Stack hosted the groundbreaking investigative series between 1987 and 2002. It was also hosted by Raymond Burr, Karl Malden, Virginia Madsen and Dennis Farina. No one quite brought the suspenseful gravitas Stack did. He added an element which the new series sorely needs: spookiness and gravelly innuendo. He knew how to make your fingers clutch the edge of the sofa in suspense.

The stories in Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries reboot are new. The sense of delicious dread you feel when you hear the unsettling intro music… is not.

That’s part of the reason why the reboot of the 1980s-’90s nonfiction series, which makes its debut Wednesday on the streaming service, feels so much of a piece with its predecessor. One of my favorite shows to watch when I was growing up was the Robert Stack-hosted true crime and paranormal series Unsolved Mysteries. I was fascinated by that show, and I’ve recently been watching episodes again on Amazon Prime.

I’m excited to report that Netflix is looking to revive the series! Stranger Things director and producer Shawn Levy is behind the revival. and he will be overseeing the revamp.

The series, which was hosted by Robert Stack and ran for over 500 episodes between 1987 and 2010, is being refreshed by Stranger Things Ep Shawn Levy and his company 21 Laps Entertainment and Netflix.

I hear that Levy is overseeing the revamp in association with Cosgrove-Meurer Productions, the original production company run by the show’s creators John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer. The latter will show run the series with Cosgrove, Levy and Josh Barry as exec producers. Robert Wise is co-exec producer and showrunner with Dunn Meurer.

The 12-part show will use re-enactments in a documentary format to profile real-life mysteries and unsolved crimes, lost love, cases involving missing persons and unexplained paranormal events. Each episode will focus on one mystery. In the original series, actors played the victims, criminals and witnesses but family members and police were regularly interviewed.

Three people were found dead inside their burning Fair Lawn, New Jersey, home late Wednesday night, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal confirmed in a press conference Thursday, ABC7 New York reports.
