Carmen Castillo was a classically-trained singer and sometime actress, who encouraged her husband, Xavier Cugat, to start a dance band. They were married until their divorce in 1947. She was an aunt to Mexican dancer and actress, Margo, who was married to actor Eddie Albert. Carmen's father had 16 children by his first wife and 16 by his second wife.
