Pancreatic cancer remains the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States and is on track to become the second leading cause.

The annual walk, to be held on April 26, is part of a larger national effort called PanCAN PurpleStride, which aims to end pancreatic cancer and raise awareness of the disease. Say what you want about Ryan Murphy, but he always seems to be thinking about the best way to make his television empire thrive. Before today, there was no indication that his popular procedural series 9-1-1 and his newest endeavor, Doctor Odyssey, shared a universe, but that's all set to change as the worlds of his two ABC series are about to collide.

Per Variety, 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey will cross over in a special episode of the latter that will see Angela Bassett's character, Athena Grant from 9-1-1, head over to the cruise ship on Doctor Odyssey led by Joshua Jackson's Dr. Max Bankman. Doctor Odyssey focuses on a different themed cruise in each episode, and this particular crossover event will take place during Casino Week on the ship, which will see Bassett's Athena suspecting two passengers of trying to Ocean's 11 the ship's vault.

Fans often appreciate 9-1-1's outlandish plotlines and believe that it's a big part of the franchise's charm. Like many other modern procedurals, the members of the 118 crew often have to juggle difficulties in their personal and professional lives. The 100th episode of “9-1-1,” which guest starred Joey Graziadei and Jesse Palmer as a crossover with “The Bachelor,” reached a rating of 0.91 among adults age 18-49 according after one week of delayed viewing.

Up from a 0.59 according to same-day data, that marks show’s best Live + 7 rating in the key demo since the Season 6 finale in May 2023, per Nielsen. And after incorporating Disney’s proprietary data via streams on Hulu and other digital platforms, the 18-49 rating comes out to a 2.2, up from the 2.18 achieved the week before when “9-1-1” hit a season high of 10.7 million viewers according to Multiplatform + 7 data.

In total viewers, the crossover saw just under 4.8 million viewers when it aired on April 4 before increasing by 111% to 10 million viewers, not far behind the record set by the March 28 episode.

“9-1-1” has been renewed for Season 8 at ABC, Variety has learned.

The news comes about two weeks after the Season 7 premiere, which marked the first season of the first responder drama to debut on ABC after it moved over from Fox. It also comes days ahead of the series’ 100th episode, which will air on Thursday at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu.

Per ABC, the Season 7 premiere of “9-1-1” pulled in approximately 11.8 million multiplatform viewers in its first seven days of availability, with the show ranking as the most-watched ABC current series across all platforms this season.

The first responders of 911 will keep putting their lives on the line at ABC.

The network has renewed 911 for the 2024-25 season, which will mark its second on ABC and eighth overall. The series, from Disney’s 20th Television, Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision, moved to ABC from Fox this season. The renewal comes as 911 is set to air its 100th episode this week.

The show was Fox’s top-rated drama for several seasons, and it’s picked up that mantle at ABC. Through its first three episodes of a strike-shortened seventh season, 911 is averaging 5.29 million same-day viewers (versus 4.7 million last season), and the March 14 season premiere more than doubled its initial audience with a week of streaming and other delayed viewing, going from 4.93 million to 11.76 million viewers. ABC also says that 911 is the network’s most watched current series across all platforms this season.

Manny Coto, the Cuban-born writer and producer who received an Emmy for his work on 24 and spent four seasons on American Horror Story and two more on American Horror Stories, has died. He was 62.

Coto, whose childhood love of Star Trek and Super-8 moviemaking led to a 40-year career in film and television, died Sunday at his home in Pasadena after a 13-month battle with pancreatic cancer, a family spokesperson announced.

Coto also worked on the final two seasons of Upn’s Star Trek: Enterprise (2003-05) and on the final three seasons of Showtime’s Dexter (2010-13). Taking the reins on the former as showrunner in season four, he was called an unsung hero, creating a run of episodes that returned classic elements to his beloved franchise.

In one of the biggest twists of the 2023 upfront, Fox opted not to renew its highest rated scripted series, 9-1-1. As Deadline reported first, the drama, produced by 20th Television, was instead picked up for a seventh season by 20th TV sibling ABC.

While the announcement came earlier this month, during Fox’s pre-upfront press call Monday morning, the network’s CEO Rob Wade revealed that the decision for 9-1-1‘s run to end with Season 6 was actually made a year ago by his predecessor, Charlie Collier, as part of the difficult, down-to-the-wire renewals of 9-1-1 and The Resident, which finally closed a couple of hours before the network’s upfront presentation.

Another disaster is set to hit LA in the 9-1-1 Season 6 premiere and this time the catastrophe is coming from above. Fox released a couple of promos for the upcoming season set to begin on September 19 at 8 p.m. Et where a blimp crashes into a packed soccer stadium.

The Ryan Murphy-produced first-responder drama “9-1-1” stars Angela Bassett as Field Sergeant Athena Grant, Peter Krause as Capt. Bobby Nash, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Kendall, Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley, Aisha Hinds as Hen Wilson, Kenneth Choi as Chimney Han, Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz, Corinne Massiah as May Grant, Marcanthonee Jon Reis as Harry Grant and Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz.

The half-hour action series The Ledger, starring Cobra Kai actor Xolo Maridueña, has been picked up by HBO Max and is currently in development. According to Variety, the series was being pitched to networks and streamers back in October and has now landed at HBO. The show centers around the trials and travels of Gabriel (Maridueña), a young man on a mission to right the wrongs of the dangerous man who trained him. Armed with the ledger passed down by his predecessor, Gabriel travels the world as an avenging angel, fixing shattered lives. Juan Carlos Coto is on board as writer and executive producer; he currently serves as an exec producer on the Fox procedural 9-1-1, and his previous credits include From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, Nikita, and Heroes. Maridueña will also exec produce alongside Will Packer of Will Packer Media and Brandon Guzmán of Valor Entertainment Group.

The action series “The Ledger” starring Xolo Maridueña has been set up at HBO Max for development, Variety has learned exclusively.

The series returns for the remainder of Season 5 on Monday, March 21 at 9 Pm, followed by spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star at 9 Pm.

Arielle Kebbel is set for a major recurring role opposite Oliver Stark in Fox drama series 9-1-1.

Kebbel will play Lucy Donato, an Lafd Firefighter working at rival firehouse 147, but joins together with the 118 for a daring rescue. Lucy is super confident, fearless and is as quick at making life or death decisions as she is at speaking her mind. In many ways she is a daredevil counterpart to the 118’s Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley (Stark).

Kebbel’s character will be introduced in the series’ spring premiere on Monday, March 21 at 8 Pm.

Old episodes of Fox’s drama “9-1-1” are coming to USA Network thanks to a new licensing agreement.

Beginning Jan. 5, episodes of the emergency services drama will air in a block on Wednesday nights from 7-11 p.m. The deal covers all four previous seasons of the series. The agreement also includes future seasons of “9-1-1” and the current fifth season, which will hit NBCUniversal-owned USA Network later this year.

“9-1-1” is the perfect addition to USA Network, which has long been a destination for big, iconic characters and event television,” said Val Boreland, executive vice president of entertainment content acquisitions at NBCUniversal Television & Streaming. “The show is a proven hit with critics and audiences alike, making this a home run for our viewers who can now enjoy these incredible seasons as part of our portfolio’s growing library.”

Exclusive: CBS, which has long tradition in drama procedurals, is currently the only major broadcast network without a successful first responders series as Fox has the 9-1-1 franchise, NBC has Chicago Fire and ABC has Station 19. CBS is hoping to remedy that with Rescue: Mia. The drama, which is in development at the network, is executive produced by a star of one of CBS’ hit procedurals, NCIS: Los Angeles‘ Eric Christian Olsen, via his Cloud Nine Productions.

It is written by Juan Carlos Coto, executive producer on 9-1-1 who also served as consulting producer on 9-1-1: Lone Star, from a story co-written by NCIS: Los Angeles director James Hanlon who also has directed episodes of Station 19 and Chicago Fire.

Cobra Kai‘s Xolo Maridueña is set to star in and executive produce The Ledger, an action drama series from veteran showrunner and producer Juan Carlos Coto and Will Packer Media.

Best known for his work as showrunner on Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series on El Rey Network, Coto currently is co-executive producer on Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear’s hit Fox drama series 9-1-1. The crime drama, now in its second season, was Fox’s highest-rated new series launch since Empire, and its season 2 premiere drew a new series best 13.8 million viewers in Live+3.

Coto previously co-executive produced the CW’s spy thriller Nikita and has written and produced critically acclaimed series including NBC’s Heroes and Fox’s 24.

Season 3 of “From Dusk Till Dawn” sees the return of Carlos Madrigal, portrayed by Wilmer Valderrama. The vampire and Cartel boss was last seen at the end of Season 2 getting chopped up by the Gecko brothers, Santanico (Eiza González) and Scott (Brandon Soo Hoo) as a way to keep him from being a threat for the time being.

On Tuesday’s episode, titled “Rio Sangre,” fans finally got to see Valderrama reprise his role when Santanico healed Carlos after being mutilated. Miramax and El Rey Network announced today four new cast additions to the Albuquerque-based production of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, set to return for a third season later this year. Ana de la Reguera (Jane the Virgin, Narcos) will have a recurring role as Lord Venganza Verdugo, one of the seven remaining culebra Lords whose ancient roots and personal history put them at the center of an epic clash between good and evil. Also joining the cast is Chilean martial arts action star, Marko Zaror (Machete Kills), as Zolo, an Aztec warrior trained in hell, and iconic horror movie maven Tom Savini (Friday the 13th, From Dusk Till Dawn).
