‘All Those Things We Never Said’ Showrunner Marc Levy: “After Covid I Felt Overwhelmed By Division And This Is A Story Of Reunification”
Image
Marc Levy, the author and showrunner behind Starzplay/Studiocanal’s upcoming All Those Things We Never Said, was driven to adapt the show for TV after a year of being “overwhelmed by division.”

Speaking at today’s Mipcom alongside Studiocanal execs, Levy said he relished “being able to tell a story in 300 minutes where there was no blood, violence or hate.”

“Maybe in our unconscious this is what we wanted to talk about right now and is why we chose this book to adapt,” said Levy, who has been working alongside director Miguel Courtois and lead Jean Reno.

“After a year of Covid I felt overwhelmed by division and this is a story of reunion, of reunification.”

The 10 x 30-minute drama is being produced for the new-look alliance of Starzplay and Studiocanal by French indie Tcc, with Starzplay taking UK and Irish rights and Studiocanal to air the drama on...

Starzplay Partners With Studiocanal for Its First French Co-Production, ‘All Those Things We Never Said’ (Exclusive)

In a pioneering alliance, Starzplay is partnering with Studiocanal, Europe’s leading film-tv production-distribution-sales company, on Starzplay’s first French co-production, the series “All Those Things We Never Said.”

Adapting the bestselling novel of the same title by Marc Levy, France’s most-read living author, the comedy-drama series is commissioned by Starzplay and Studiocanal parent, Vivendi’s Canal Plus Group — Europe’s second-biggest pay TV/SVOD operator.

Written by Levy, who will also showrun, the 10-part half-hour series has just initiated principal photography, starring Jean Reno and Alexandra Maria Lara. Studiocanal will handle international sales outside Starzplay and Cpg’s extensive distribution footprints.

Levy’s original novel was published in 2008. Described by Studiocanal, Starzplay and Cpg as “a bittersweet comedy with soul” and “wryly fun,” it taps into human relations — a reconnection with a father and a lost first love; a second chance at life — which carries new meaning as...

Tele Images launches Levy's 'Be There' series
Franck Philippon
PARIS -- Prolific author Marc Levy is heading back to his native France for the launch of Tele Images' new series "Will You Be There?"

The four-episdode, 52-minute series, produced by Mai-Juin Production for Gallic network M6, already sold to Antena 3 in Spain, TSR in Switzerland and RTL TVI in Belgium after the first day of the MIPCOM market Monday.

Also available in a two-episode, 90-minute format for international sales, the series, written by Franck Philippon and directed by Miguel Courtois, follows its cast -- Cristiana Reali, Elsa Lunghini and Philippe Bas -- from Paris to the tropical jungles of Santo Domingo over the course of 20 years.

Old friends Courtois and Levy thought the story could best be told in a longer format, so they opted for a TV series rather than a feature film and collaborated throughout the production.

"To me, a director becomes an author the moment he chooses to tell your story among the millions of others around.

Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford in All the President's Men (1976)
MADRID -- Following the success of political thriller Wolf, Spanish production house Mundo Ficcion said Friday that next month it will start shooting GAL, based on one of the most important political stories of Spain's recent history. In the style of All the President's Men, GAL follows the true story of how investigative journalists uncovered the shady dealings of the Spanish government's dirty war against Basque terrorists in the 1980s. Executive producer Melchor Miralles, who was one of the key journalists to unveil the undercover war known by the initials GAL, joins forces once again with Wolf director Miguel Courtois and scriptwriter Antonio Onetti.
