Originally announced last year under the title Mother Land, the next film from director Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) is now titled Never Let Go, and Lionsgate has debuted the official poster and announced the release date tonight.

Never Let Go arrives in theaters on September 27, 2024.

Now Deadline reports that Mother Land has been retitled Never Let Go – and filming is underway! Berry is joined in the cast by Percy Daggs IV (The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey) and Anthony B. Christian Sparkes’ drama The King Tide, starring Frances Fisher and Lara Jean Chorostecki, has wrapped production in Newfoundland.

The indie’s ensemble cast includes Clayne Crawford, Alix West Lefler, Aden Young, Michael Greyeyes and Ryan McDonald. The King Tide is set in a small island fishing village that faces civil war after a child with special powers is discovered in its midst and some villagers believe the child has been sent for a larger purpose.

Fisher, whose credits include Titanic and Watchmen, also appears in The Sinner, which shot in Nova Scotia, also in Atlantic Canada. Chorostecki, who earlier appeared in Sparkes’ second feature, the rural crime thriller Hammer, more recently starred in Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley.

Sparkes shot the film based on a screenplay adapted by Albert Shin and William Woods, and from a story by Ryan Grassby and Kevin Coughlin.

The first movie to directly confront McCarthyism! Or so said the editorials touting this ‘Long-Awaited Screen Event’ in which ‘Bette Davis Hits the Screen in a Cyclone of Dramatic Fury!’ The storm of the title was based on a real activist in Oklahoma who lost her job for promoting equal rights. Bette’s polite librarian is victimized by small-minded civic types; a subplot depicts the traumatic reaction of one of her patrons, a child expected to despise her as a traitor to the country. Daniel Taradash’s movie is an excellent starting point to discuss the thorny dramatic subgenre of liberal social issue movies.
