Image
Jimi Hendrix rips through “Foxey Lady” in a new clip from the upcoming documentary, Music, Money, Madness … Jimi Hendrix in Maui, set to arrive November 20th.

The film chronicles the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s 1970 trip to Hawaii, which coincided with the filming of the infamous hippie film flop, Rainbow Bridge, produced by the Experience’s manager, Michael Jeffrey. The Experience was already set to play a show in Honolulu during the trip, but because Rainbow Bridge director Chuck Wein wanted to feature Hendrix in the movie, he cooked up a...

Hear Jimi Hendrix’s Wild, Unreleased ‘Ezy Ryder’ From Fillmore East Concerts
The Band of Gypsys work their way up to a comfortable groove on a previously unreleased recording of “Ezy Ryder,” recorded at the Fillmore East half a century ago, which will feature on a new box set. From the start, drummer Buddy Miles sets the tempo, while Jimi Hendrix and bassist Billy Cox establish the riff, all leading up to an explosion of Hendrix singing, “Ezy, Ezy Ryder, riding down the highways of desire.” The band had already played the song once already that day in an earlier set, and...

Anant Singh Prepping ‘The Boys Of Summer’ Limited Series About Brooklyn Dodgers’ Golden Years
Anant Singh at an event for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013)
Exclusive: Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom producer Anant Singh has acquired rights to produce a limited series based on Roger Kahn’s best-selling classic sports novel, The Boys Of Summer. Discussions are underway to attach a writer and production partner.

The book, originally published in 1972, tells the story of the golden years of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Kahn chronicles the lives of the legendary line-up of Pee Wee Reese, Preacher Roe, Gil Hodges, Duke Snider, Billy Cox, Carl Furillo, Jackie Robinson and Ro Campanella in the years leading up to, and following, the team’s historic triumph against the New York Yankees in the 1955 World Series.

South Africa-based Singh says, “My friend, the late Wall Street financier, Ted Forstmann, who was passionate about the book, introduced me to the remarkable story of The Boys Of Summer. I knew nothing about baseball, but when I read the book, I immediately saw his vision for a film.

Marina de Tavira, Marco Graf, Yalitza Aparicio, Daniela Demesa, Diego Cortina Autrey, and Carlos Peralta in Roma (2018)
Film News Roundup: AMC, Regal to Leave ‘Roma’ Out of Best Picture Showcases
Marina de Tavira, Marco Graf, Yalitza Aparicio, Daniela Demesa, Diego Cortina Autrey, and Carlos Peralta in Roma (2018)
In today’s film news roundup, “Roma” will not be in the best picture showcases at AMC and Regal, “Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church” gets a release and SAG-AFTRA’s David White has a new appointment.

‘Roma’ Spurned

AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas are leaving Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma” out of their upcoming annual showings of the contenders for the Academy Award for best picture.

Both chains made the announcement Tuesday after “Roma” was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and indicated that the rationale stems from their refusal to book Neflix’s titles, due to the Netflix policy of ignoring the traditional 90-day window between initial theatrical release and home release. In the case of “Roma,” Netflix debuted the movie on Nov. 21 and began streaming the film on Dec. 14.

AMC said, “For more than a decade, movie-lovers have enjoyed the AMC Best Picture Showcase to catch up on the nominated...

Favorite Fall Rock Music!
Not all that glitters is gold on the radio, and often one must scratch below the glossy surface of the neatly pressed and homogenous music business where TV pop stars litter radio playlists. Thankfully there is a growing number of outlets that cater to every type of rock music. Here are some of my favorite new releases from October culled from press releases, Spotify playlists, satellite radio, and peer recommendations.

"3-6-9" Cat Power Sun (Matador) - Still measured genius after all these years; six years in fact since The Greatest. My favorite track is this upbeat, haunting, multi-layered, auto-tuned, electronica-tinged sing-a-long. This is the sound of New Jack City in the 21st century. More Pj than Joni, Ms. Chan Marshall brings the noise and funk on her ninth CD, and in doing so, raises the bar for her musical peers, both genders.

"Ramada Inn" Neil Young Psychedelic Pill (Reprise) - Wtf?...

Pajiba After Dark 12/6/10
As I sit here with my cup of tea and sort through the interwebs to start my day, I notice that it's apparently snowing in large sections of the country today. Yeah, it's all pretty and novel now, but in a few weeks when it's all grey slush on the side of the road that freezes overnight to try and make you slip (yes, snow has evil intentions, just trust me here) you won't be so chipper about it. Me? I'm just annoyed that it's a bit too chilly to wear flip flops in North Cuba today. Here's your Monday night TV:

8:00pm: "90210" on The CW

"American Country Awards" on Fox. Wait, didn't the Cmt awards air a couple weeks ago on ABC? How many Country music oriented awards shows are there?

"How I Met Your Mother" on CBS

"Little People, Big World" on Tlc

"The Sing-Off" on NBC.

Jimi Hendrix Tribute: Red House
I don't normally go see cover acts, mostly because of the constant belly aching from my friends in "real" bands about how those "Freebird" playing yahoos are always taking money out of their pockets. And after getting burned one too many times by lame tribute acts (Ok, just that once, but you know who you are and you should be ashamed!), I was wary of the "Experience Hendrix" tribute tour because I love Jimi Hendrix and refuse to let some hack ruin him for me.

But with a lineup that includes Jimi's original Band of Gypsys and Experience bassist Billy Cox, guitar wizards Steve Vai, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Aerosmith's Brad Whitford, Eric Johnson and Robert Randolph, in addition to Living Colour, members of Los Lobos, Ernie Isley, Susan Tedeschi and former Stevie Ray Vaughan drummer Chris Layton, you kind of couldn't lose, right? I mean, this was not...

Jimi Hendrix fans will be excited to hear that Experience Hendrix LLC and Sony Music Entertainment's Legacy Recordings are launching their monumental 2010 Jimi Hendrix Catalog Project on Tuesday, March 9. The catalog will include the release of "Valleys of Neptune," a newly curated album of 12 fully realized studio recordings and more than 60 minutes of music never commercially available on a Jimi Hendrix album.

The tracks were recorded in 1969 during a turbulent four-month time period. The album "Valleys of Neptune" unveils the original Jimi Hendrix Experience's final studio recordings as the band lays down the foundation for its follow-up to "Electric Ladyland." The album also includes Hendrix's first sessions with bassist Billy Cox.

Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix LLC, the Hendrix family-owned company entrusted with preserving and protecting the legacy of Jimi Hendrix, noted, "My brother Jimi was at home in the studio. Valleys of Neptune offers deep insight into...
