The Company You Keep Canceled at ABC After One Season
Image
It's going to be a one-season run for the ABC series The Company You Keep. Inspired by the South Korean series My Fellow Citizens!, the series was created by Julia Cohen with Milo Ventimiglia and Catherine Haena Kim leading the cast. The show premiered on ABC in February and wrapped up its 10-episode freshman season earlier this month. Following soft ratings that reached a series low with the season finale, it's now been reported that ABC has axed The Company You Keep after one season with no plans to develop season 2.

The news came amid multiple shows getting canceled over the past week. Along with The Company You Keep, ABC also axed Alaska Daily after one season along with Big Sky after a three-season run. CBS controversially canceled S.W.A.T. after five seasons, though they have since reversed that decision after an outcry from fans and star Shemar Moore. However, the...

‘The Company You Keep’ Canceled By ABC After One Season
Image
ABC has opted not to renew for a second season The Company You Keep, its new drama series starring and executive produced by Milo Ventimiglia.

The Company You Keep, produced by Disney TV Studios’ 20th Television, did not perform as well as ABC’s two other midseason 2023 entries, fellow drama Will Trent, which has been renewed for a second season, and comedy Not Dead Yet, which is looking good for a renewal.

Still, Disney has longstanding relationship with Ventimiglia, who segued to The Company You Keep following his six-season starring turn on 20th Television’s hit NBC drama This Is Us. Based on that and the fact that The Company You Keep only premiered in midseason, there was talk that ABC may give the series a partial second season order to give it more time to find an audience.

Milo Ventimiglia Almost Left Hollywood. Now He’s Doubling Down on Broadcast TV With ‘The Company You Keep’
Image
Nearly three decades ago, Milo Ventimiglia stepped on a TV set for the first time. Since then, he’s barely ever taken a break — at least not an intentional one.

“After ‘Heroes,’ I had a hard time working, I couldn’t get a job,” Ventimiglia says. “It was one of the one or two times in my career where I thought about, what if I did something else? What if I got out of Hollywood? What if I left, and I moved out of the country? What if I did something like completely different than the path that I had been on? Because I couldn’t get work.”

Ventimiglia continues: “As an actor, you’re out there, you’re pounding the pavement, you’re taking meetings, you’re auditioning, you’re putting what you can into those auditions, and you’re not getting the work. So therefore it’s kind of like,...

Milo Ventimiglia Joined ABC’s ‘The Company You Keep’ and Brought 90 of the ‘This Is Us’ Crew Along
Milo Ventimiglia
For Milo Ventimiglia, the three-time Emmy-nominated star of “This Is Us,” getting into his upcoming ABC project “The Company You Keep” was just about a “haircut and a shave, and here I go.”

The actor said at Wednesday’s Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena that he immediately jumped from the long-running NBC drama to the new caper show, taking roughly a two-week break in between roles and bringing along 90 of the production crew along with him.

“Shorthand, the expertise, the level that which I think ‘This Is Us’ operated, from a production standpoint, we carried it over to ours and everybody folded together and everyone works well together,” the actor said. “Production has been a lot of fun.”

The ABC thriller-drama, based on the Korean format “My Fellow Citizens,” has been in the works for two years, with Ventimiglia also serving as executive producer and developing the project...

The Company You Keep Teaser Trailer: Milo Ventimiglia Plays a Charismatic Con Man in New ABC Drama
Milo Ventimiglia
Milo Ventimiglia returns to the small screen with his first post-This Is Us TV role next month, and it looks very similar to some of ABC's past efforts.

The Company You Keep touches down on ABC on Sunday, February 19, at 10 p.m.

"A night of passion leads to love between con man Charlie and undercover CIA officer Emma, who are unknowingly on a collision course professionally," the logline reads.

"While Charlie ramps up the family business so he can get out for good, Emma's closing in on the vengeful criminal who holds Charlie's family debts in hand – forcing them to reckon with the lies they've told so they can save themselves and their families from disastrous consequences."

It's a compelling hook, but the teaser trailer doesn't do the best job of showcasing the plot ABC shared.

As a result, the trailer plays off more like The Catch, the ill-fated...

Evel Knievel
Evel Knievel Series with Milo Ventimiglia Scrapped by USA Network due to Pandemic
Evel Knievel
The gravity-abused life of iconic stuntman Evel Knievel (1938-2007) was set to be chronicled by USA Network, which last year ordered a limited series, titled Evel, with Milo Ventimiglia tapped to star as the iconic daredevil. However, the world has obviously experienced significant changes since those plans were first spun, and it seems that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused Evel to wipe out from the cable channel’s production slate.

USA Network has scrapped Evel, according to THR. The project, which was picked up to series in September 2019, saw its New Mexico production—which was finishing location prep and was on the verge of rolling cameras—shut down this past March as the pandemic escalated. That move saw Ventimiglia and the rest of the cast—Sarah Gadon, David Krumholtz and Michael Chernus—sent home. Now, four months after that event, it seems that—rather than delaying production—the network has...

Evel Knievel Limited Series Starring Milo Ventimiglia Scrapped By USA Network, Casualty Of Covid Shutdown
Image
USA Network will not be going forward with Evel, its high-profile limited series starring This Is Us‘ Milo Ventimiglia as the larger-than-life ’70s daredevil Evel Knievel.

The limited series was to film during Ventimiglia’s hiatus from This Is Us. The project was fully cast and staffed; production was about to begin when it was forced to shut down on the last day of prep, March 13, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With Ventimiglia’s window of availability closing, no definitive path to production restart in the U.S. amid a surge of new Covid-19 infections, which makes synching up everyone’s schedules a daunting proposition, a decision was made not to proceed with the series at USA.

Ucp, the studio behind the project, will be shopping it with Ventimiglia, who had been on board since Day 1, still attached. The rest of the cast has been released.

“USA is incredibly disappointed...

Evel Knievel Drama Led by Milo Ventimiglia Not Moving Forward at USA Network
Milo Ventimiglia
The Evel Knievel limited drama series starring Milo Ventimiglia is no longer moving forward at USA Network.

The decision to scrap the production at its original home was brought on by the production shutdown amid the pandemic. Production was about to begin when it was halted on its last day of prep on March 13, a person with knowledge of the situation tells TheWrap.

The studio behind the project, Universal Content Productions (Ucp), is shopping the project elsewhere in the hopes that it can still be made.

“USA is incredibly disappointed to have had to make this decision, as we were so excited about this project and working with Milo, Etan, and everyone involved,” said a spokesperson for the network.

TheWrap reported last September that the series was set to be titled “Evel,...

Milo Ventimiglia’s Evel Knievel Limited Series Not Moving Forward at USA Network
Image
USA Network is no longer moving ahead with the limited series about Evel Knievel starring Milo Ventimiglia, Variety has confirmed.

It was announced last September that Ventimiglia, who stars on the hit NBC drama “This Is Us,” was to play the famous daredevil. However, the coronavirus pandemic shut down the series on March 13, right before production was to begin. With production unable to resume and Ventimiglia and series writer Etan Frankel scheduled to begin work on other projects, the network decided to walk away from the project.

Universal Content Productions, which is producing the series, plans to shop it to other outlets. Frankel was set to write and executive produce via his overall with the studio. Ventimiglia was set to executive produce in addition to starring via Divide Pictures. Other executive producers on the project were McG, Mary Viola, and Steven Bello of Wonderland Sound & Vision, and Alex Gartner, Charles Roven...

Evel Knievel Series Starring Milo Ventimiglia Set for USA Network
Joseph Baxter Sep 6, 2019

This is Us star Milo Ventimiglia will star in USA Network limited series Evel, showcasing the life of legendary daredevil Evel Knievel.

The gravity-abused life of iconic stuntman Evel Knievel (1938-2007) will be chronicled by USA Network, which has ordered a limited series, titled Evel.

Milo Ventimiglia, who currently stars on NBC television drama This is Us (which manifests under the same corporate umbrella as the cable channel), will play the eponymous daredevil on USA Network’s Evel, which he’ll also executive produce. The series will focus on a specific period in Knievel’s career, namely the preparatory build-up before his famously-failed jump across Snake River Canyon – a heavily hyped event that took place west of Idaho’s Shoshone Falls, on September 8, 1974, at 3:36 p.m. Mdt.

The limited series comes after a 2015 spate of contemplated-but-nixed Evel Knievel biographical projects from heavies like Martin Scorsese and Darren Aronofsky.

NBC Developing Family Workplace Comedy ‘Save The Deli’ Based On Book From Lauren Bachelis & Milo Ventimiglia
NBC has put in development multi-camera comedy Save the Deli, based on David Sax’s book of the same name, from writer Lauren Bachelis (Single By 30), This is Us star Milo Ventimiglia and Russ Cundiff’s Divide Pictures and 20th Century Fox TV, where Divide is under a deal.

Written by Bachelis, Save the Deli is a family workplace comedy centering on a 30-year-old woman, who much to the shock of her family, friends and mostly herself, becomes the new owner of her Chicago family deli after her grandfather dies. Naturally, her very opinionated staff and family members make the job unbearable since they all have conflicting ideas of how to save the deli.

In addition to using Sax’s book, published by Houghton Mifflin in 2009, as source material, Save the Deli draws on Bachelis’ personal experiences. Her grandfather owned Mort’s, the Jewish deli in Tarzana.
