Audiences Are Flocking to Watch Prime Video's Divisive New Action Thriller
Image
Prime Video’s latest action thriller, The Assassin, is tearing up the global streaming charts and has secured the #1 spot among Amazon’s Top 10 series in the UK, just a week after its release. The series premiered on July 25, and since then the critics and audiences have been widely divided.

At the time of writing, the show has a 90% critics' score from 10 reviewers, and a 36% audience score from 50+ viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics have, so far, loved the show’s twists and performances; however, the audience states otherwise. Viewers have criticized the show for flat acting, implausible twists, and changing tones in the show. The plot follows Julie, a retired assassin, and her estranged son Edward. When her past comes back to her, Julie attempts to reconnect with Edward after a long time, and she must resurrect her past skills to keep them both safe. The show has quickly...

‘The Good Doctor’ Star’s New British Crime Series Earns an Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
After making its UK debut on Prime Video on Friday, July 25, Harry and Jack Williams' latest crime thriller, the aptly titled The Assassin, has received plenty of widespread praise. Although not without its faults, it seems that the general consensus is that the Williams' have done it again following the huge success of The Tourist, which finished its long-awaited second season in early 2024, with many calling The Assassin its spiritual successor.

The Assassin stars The Good Doctor's Freddie Highmore, a former child star famed for his roles in the likes of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Finding Neverland, and The Spiderwick Chronicles, alongside the ever-brilliant Keeley Hawes of Bodyguard fame. Currently, following its release just days ago, The Assassin has earned an impressive 86% critics' score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, albeit from just seven reviews thus far. For Highmore, this is remarkably the second-highest rating he has ever achieved,...

Procedural Drama Series 'Jag' Reboot Chances Addressed By David James Elliott
Image
It has been 20 years since Jag ended its 10-season run, but not before it ensured that it would be remembered as the origin of one of the longest-running procedural shows ever – NCIS. Could the granddaddy of the franchise ever come back though? According to its original star, yes it could.

There are very few shows that are currently immune to the idea of a reboot or remake, and while many may not have Jag on their list of likely suspects for the revival treatment, David James Elliott, who played Lt. Harmon Rabb Jr, believes there is “always a chance” of the series coming back, even after two decades and what seems like dozens of NCIS spinoffs.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly at Sdcc while promoting the new supernatural series Revival, Elliott addressed Jag’s return. He said:

“I mean there’s always a chance. Don Bellisario [Jag’s original creator] is still alive. I mean,...

Freddie Highmore Is Back to His British Roots (and Loving It) in ‘The Assassin’
Image
Freddie Highmore has called London home his whole life, but you wouldn’t know it from his portfolio.

The 33-year-old actor, a former child star thanks to his titular role in Tim Burton‘s 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has spent a good chunk of the last decade across the Atlantic. Shooting entirely in Vancouver, his rise to fame is best associated with the medical drama The Good Doctor from 2017 to 2024 or the psychological horror series Bates Motel in the years before that.

“I had such an incredible experience that feels so unique and will probably never happen again,” Highmore tells The Hollywood Reporter about his TV adventures abroad. “But at the same time, there was definitely an excitement to do something back in the U.K.”

He adds: “It did always feel like, ‘Oh, I should get back at some point.'”

Now, the London-born actor is returning to his British roots to join Bodyguard star Keeley Hawes in the upcoming crime thriller series The Assassin. "Everybody Involved Would Jump at the Chance": Michael Urie Is More Than Ready for an 'Ugly Betty' Revival
Image
In the age of reboots and revivals, fans are yet to see one of their favorite shows be resuscitated. Ugly Betty first premiered on ABC in 2006, and it wouldn't be out of place if it was brought back like several other shows have. But what do the series alumni think about it? During the TV Fest in Newport Beach, in which his Shrinking costar Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) received an award, Michael Urie (Maestro) was happy to talk about Ugly Betty with Collider for a couple of minutes.

During the interview, Urie suggested to Collider's Aidan Kelley that Ugly Betty would be an interesting show to reboot because the original's themes are now as relevant as ever. He also mentioned what he would like to see if the revival indeed happened and mentioned who he thinks would return for more episodes.

"I feel like the show was...

"I Was So Focused On Myself”: Michael Urie Regrets How He "Slept On" His ‘Ugly Betty’ Co-Stars
Image
Next year, Ugly Betty will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The surprise hit ABC series was a pioneer in several aspects of network television, but some aspects went relatively unnoticed for many years. Michael Urie (Shrinking) and Becki Newton (The Lincoln Lawyer) hosted a podcast about the series, way before podcasts were even a thing. Now, the duo has returned with the rewatch podcast Still Ugly, where they revisit each episode and offer their perspective. In a new interview with Collider's Michael Zimmerman, Urie and Newton revealed they are noticing many things they missed during filming.

During the interview, Urie admitted to Zimmerman that he's "embarrassed" to say that he "slept on" his co-stars' performances because he was so focused on himself and doing a good job that he missed the nuances of several people that he shared scenes with. He called America Ferrera (Barbie) "amazing and brilliant" and mentioned several cast members,...

“Marc and Amanda Are Still Together”: This Is What an ‘Ugly Betty’ Reboot Would Look Like, According to Michael Urie and Becki Newton
Image
The success of the first two seasons of Ugly Betty back in the early aughts created a passionate fan base that still loves the series to this day despite its shortcomings. You can ask any fan of the show, and most of them will tell you that one of the best things about it was the comedic duo formed by Marc (Michael Urie) and Amanda (Becki Newton). During a new interview with Collider's Michael Zimmerman to promote their rewatch podcastStill Ugly, the two actors talked about their experience in the series and tried to imagine what a reboot would look like today.

We can't ignore that Ugly Betty was a product of its time. In the context of the series, Marc and Amanda worked in an environment in which bullying was not only allowed but encouraged. However, Urie and Newton found a way to make it funny and more...

Where Was Lost Filmed? Every Major Location Explained
Image
"Lost" is one of the biggest and most important TV shows of the 2000s. It forever changed the way we think about network TV, helping bring about an era of serialization, high-concept genre shows, and mystery box storytelling. Before we all got glued to social media discussing the latest "Severance" theory or sharing our shock at the latest big "House of the Dragon" death, it was "Lost" that had the whole world obsessing over theories, ships, and twists. By the time it ended, "Lost" went out with one of the most discussed and analyzed finales in modern TV history.

This is a show with a big legacy. Michael Giacchino's score remains the best TV soundtrack, its characters are memorable and the cast diverse, marking a genuinely good stride for representation on TV. Yet the legacy of "Lost" is also problematic, with that same diverse cast also being, in some cases,...

'NCIS' Fans Who Haven’t Seen the Backdoor Pilot in 'Jag' Are Missing Out
Image
Quick LinksWhat's 'Jag' All About?'NCIS's Debut on 'Jag'

NCIS is one of the most iconic series out there. Its 22-season and 450+episode run put it among the top 10 longest-running scripted primetime shows on broadcast television. It's also spawned five spin-offs, many of which have gone on to enjoy long lives of their own. The latest spin-off, NCIS: Origins, follows a younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he's just starting out. But speaking of spin-offs, how many fans know that NCIS itself is a spin-off?

Many of NCIS's main stars and settings were introduced to viewers in the eighth season of CBS' Jag. Like its successors, Jag was also a long-running military-based procedural drama. It ran for 10 seasons and 227 episodes between 1995 and 2005. Those are impressive stats until you note that NCIS has more than doubled all those marks. It's exceedingly rare for a spin-off to outrun its parent series.

Why Lauren Holly’s Jenny Shepard Left NCIS
Image
Image via Netflix

Lauren Holly's stint as Director Jenny Shepard on CBS's military crime drama, NCIS, was originally intended to last only six episodes, but Holly ended up staying on the show for three seasons, and Director Shepard became one of the show's most beloved characters. Holly, known for her roles in Picket Fences and Dumb and Dumber, joined NCIS's team of investigators in 2005 at the start of the series' third season. Initially introduced as a former flame of series lead, Agent Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon, her driven and ambitious character invigorated the series with a new energy that created an exciting dynamic between herself, Gibbs, and other characters.

A rarity in police procedurals, Holly plays the boss of the male-dominated agency, NCIS, a refreshing and inspiring figure to women who hope to break into other male-dominated fields and be respected as leaders. While demanding respect from fellow agents,...

How Old The O.C. Cast Was Compared To Their Characters
Image
The O.C. was one of the staple teen dramas of the aughts, partly thanks to its iconic cast, including names like Mischa Barton. It takes place in Orange County (The O.C.) in Southern California and ran for four seasons before the network canceled it. The show's catalyst was when Ryan Atwood, a troubled teenager from a broken home in Chino, moved in with the Cohens, a wealthy family living in an upper-class community in Newport Beach. Ryan and the Cohens, which included Sandy, Kirsten, and Seth, came from different worlds, but they eventually learned how to operate as a unit.

Although The O.C. contained many side plots and important storylines, the central one revolved around how Ryan fit in with the rest of the characters. The culture clash between Ryan's upbringing and the Cohens' was a main conflict throughout the series because he was so young and had a rough childhood.

Why ABC Canceled Ugly Betty After 4 Seasons
Image
This article contains discussions of suicide.

Based on the Colombian telenovela "Yo soy Betty, la fea," the ABC sitcom "Ugly Betty" ran for four seasons from 2006 to 2010 and helped make lead actress America Ferrera into a major star. So why did it get canceled so quickly? Will there ever be a reunion? Oh, and also — what was "Ugly Betty" about, besides a girl named Betty who isn't as "pretty" as other women?

The show stars America Ferrera as the titular Betty Suarez, who, despite her braces and admittedly strange fashion sense, lands a job at Mode Magazine in Manhattan as an assistant to notorious womanizer Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius). Along the way, Betty ends up making some unlikely friends and allies, including Daniel himself — the two have a genuinely wholesome friendship, actually — but also has to face off against the imperious creative director of Mode, Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams), as...

How To Watch All NCIS Shows In Order

The NCIS franchise has over 1,000 episodes and 46 seasons, with seven shows. NCIS: Origins will premiere as a prequel in 2024, taking place before the other series. Watching NCIS before its spinoffs helps when it comes to crossovers, but not necessary.

The NCIS franchise is one of the longest-running and most successful TV franchises, and it's far from being over, meaning that there are a lot of episodes to watch and many more to come. CBS canceled NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, and NCIS: Hawai'i,...
