Drawing the attention of film connoisseurs, Jake Gyllenhaal is indeed an undeniably versatile actor, whose portrayal of the character resonates with the viewers on an emotional level. Over the years, the actor has worked in several genres like romance, thriller, dramas, and action, which establishes him as a top-tier name.

However, the actor had big shoes to fill while he was portraying Elwood Dalton in Road House co-starring Conor McGregor. The role was made popular by Patrick Swayze, who had previously portrayed the role of John Dalton in the 1989 film. Gyllenhaal had the opportunity to work with the actor before Swayze tragically passed away in 2009, and the actor had nothing but praise for the legendary actor and how he always believed in him.

In Doug Liman's (Edge of Tomorrow) remake Road House, Jake Gyllenhaal steps into the role of former UFC fighter Elwood Dalton, previously played by Patrick Swayze (as John Dalton) in the 1989 original. The movie adopts the Og's action-packed spirit, but takes the story to a new location in the Florida Keys, where the cast and crew filmed on location with real-life UFC fighter Conor McGregor.

He's the miracle they never dared pray for. He is, of course, Patrick Swayze, and he is the legendary bouncer John Dalton. Road House has become a pop culture treasure, thanks to its encapsulation of everything that made the 80s so great and ridiculous. From the mullets to the flannels and rock and roll, it's pulsing with 80s memorabilia. Swayze is one of the most recognizable stars from the late 80s and 90s, and he gave one of his most iconic performances in Road House. Born and raised in Texas, Swazye brings his southern swagger to the big screen as a philosophical practicing bouncer and sets the stage as a dangerous outlaw.

In 1989's "Road House," lifelong nightclub cooler/bouncer/warrior John Dalton (Patrick Swayze) shrugs off his various injuries with a sly phrase: "Pain don't hurt." Yet his lady love, Dr. Elizabeth Clay (Kelly Lynch), warns him that while he may shrug away pain right now, years later his injuries will catch up to him and pain will start to hurt very, very much. That's a truth which many athletes, servicepeople, and actors find themselves facing in their middle age and up, one which younger versions of themselves would do well to heed.
One such actor facing that reality is Sylvester Stallone, a star whose career off-screen greatly mirrors his typical journey on-screen. Just like the character closest to his real self, Rocky Balboa, Stallone does his best work when he's got something to prove, whether to himself, to Hollywood, the public, or some combination thereof. A star of the original Road House criticizes the new remake for lacking the hard-hitting realism of the 1989 film. Sound effects in the fight scenes of the remake are seen as inaccurate and less impactful compared to the original. The actor highlights that he and Patrick Swayze genuinely hit each other during the fight scenes, emphasizing the intensity of their performances.
A star of the original Road House spots a problem with the new Jake Gyllenhaal remake. Patrick Swayze played two-fisted bouncer John Dalton in the original 1989 Road House, a film that, despite being maligned by critics, has gone on to become a cult classic. Now 35 years after Swayze played the most famous cooler in movie history, Gyllenhaal is stepping into his high-kicking boots, portraying a down-on-his-luck UFC fighter in Prime Video’s Road House remake.

A new Family Guy poster combines Peter Griffin with Jake Gyllenhaal's Road House. The poster pays homage to Family Guy's long-standing connection to the original 1989 movie. Family Guy season 22 may address the Road House remake, but likely won't parody marketing as the poster does.
A new Family Guy poster combines Peter Griffin with Jake Gyllenhaal's Road House. The upcoming movie is a modern remake of Patrick Swayze's 1989 classic, which earned $61.6 million on a budget of only $15 million. Family Guy regularly references the movie. Uttering the words "Road House" after overwhelming violence has been one of Peter's catchphrases since 2009.
With a Road House remake a few months away from its March 21 release, Instagram artist bosslogic decided to update one of the movie's posters. To address Family Guy's long-standing connection to the original movie, he added a Seth MacFarlane-inspired spin to the poster.

Road House stands apart from other '80s action movies with its unique "be nice" rule, where the protagonist Dalton strives to maintain peace before resorting to violence. The impressive choreography and fitting music in Road House make the fight scenes captivating and well-executed. Dalton, the troubled yet good-hearted protagonist, uses his skills to give the bad guys their comeuppance and avenge the death of a long-time friend.
When it comes to beat ‘em up flicks from the '80s, there are so many worthy contenders to consider. From Van Damme, to Schwarzenegger to Stallone, there’s no shortage of bad guys eating a knuckle sandwich with a side of righteous vengeance. But let’s not forget about Patrick Swayze’s contribution to the punch fest in the form of 1989’s Road House; the film where Swayze is nice until he has a compelling reason not to be.

Just consider us Wade Garrett (Sam Elliott) to Doug Liman’s John Dalton (Patrick Swayze). Get your popcorn ready.
All IndieWire needed was a two-minute, 48-second trailer to declare the director 100 percent right about his “Road House” remake being tailor-made for movie theaters. Liman’s larger point, presented in a first-person essay on Deadline touting the importance of theatrical, is also correct — but it seems to be especially accurate for this film, which he’s already touted as possibly his best effort to date.
The trailer, released on Thursday, opens with a many-on-1 (the one is protagonist Jake Gyllenhaal) parking lot brawl. It then takes it to the cage; some of the matches are sanctioned, others are definitely not. Later comes the many bar fights, some gunplay, an alligator attack, a high-speed Ferrari chase, arson, a head-on boat collision, and Conor McGregor going nutso with a golf club.

Carla Guigino's involvement creates an opportunity for familiar faces in Flanagan's adaptation of The Dark Tower. Bruce Greenwood's experience with supernatural creatures makes him an excellent choice for the role of Father Callahan. Zach Gilford's portrayal of realistic struggles in Midnight Mass would serve well in depicting Eddie Dean's challenges with addiction and loss.
Mike Flanagan is perhaps the single most accomplished and adept Stephen King adapter ever, and his cast of regular collaborators present some interesting opportunities to cast his latest project, The Dark Tower. The beloved book series had been partially adapted before as a woefully underwhelming film, 2017's The Dark Tower, but Flanagan's track record with King's properties promises a more faithful version of the story. The episodic format will also be more fitting of the seven-book series, giving more time for characters to develop.

Director Mike Flanagan's "Doctor Sleep" is neither excellent nor outright sloppy, but it does make for an interesting viewing experience. It is tense and suspenseful in parts but not scary or frightening at all.
Based on Stephen King's 2013 novel of the same name, which is the sequel to his 1977 novel, "The Shining", the film combines elements of the 1977 novel and its 1980 film adaptation of the same name, directed by Stanley Kubrick.
It is the story of Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor) 40 years after the terrifying events that occurred in "The Shining", where he was traumatised by one of its ghosts -- the rotting woman of Room 237 of the Overlook Hotel. He was taught by the ghost of Dick Hallorann (Carl Lumbly) to lock such ghosts in imaginary "boxes" in his mind.
Meanwhile, a cult of quasi-immortals known as the True Knot, led by Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson), feed...

This Doctor Sleep article contains spoilers.
Doctor Sleep is the continuation of the haunted house nightmare first put on the page by Stephen King and brought to life on the big screen by Stanley Kubrick. As we wrote in our review, director Mike Flanagan has made an adaptation worthy of King's novel while also paying tribute to the Kubrick movie. From Dan coping with the ghosts of his past to taking us back to the terrifying Overlook Hotel, Doctor Sleep is largely a triumph that celebrates every version of The Shining story.
As you can imagine, an movie this ambitious -- a King adaptation told through the visual language set by Kubrick -- features quite a few nods and callbacks to both the novels and the beloved movie.

The Kinks were on the verge of collapse when they began 1969’s Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire). They’d just parted ways with original bassist Pete Quaife and their previous album, 1968’s The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society, failed even to chart in their native England despite excellent reviews. Making matters worse, an ongoing feud with the American Federation of Musicians made it impossible for them to tour in the States, a devastating blow at a time when groups like Led Zeppelin and...

Any reservations fans might have had about the upcoming Doctor Sleep adaptation might be eradicated now that the feature has received a major endorsement from someone who knows the source material better than anyone else. Bestselling horror author Stephen King is the mastermind behind the eponymous novel and has thrown his full support behind the flick. The writer recently tweeted: “this movie is going to blow your mind. If you have any left after It Chapter 2, that is.”
That’s some strong praise, especially coming from someone who’s not afraid to be critical of films based off of his work. For example, it’s well-known that King is not a fan of Stanley Kubrick’s cinematic take on The Shining. While many consider it to be one of the best scary movies of all-time, the author is not one of them.

Last week some of us, but not all, were knocked off our (somewhat) collective feet by the trailer for The Haunting of Hill House and Gerald's Game director Mike Flanagan's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining sequel novel Doctor Sleep starring Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, and Kyliegh Curran. And if that killer trailer just wasn't enough for you to slap the film on the tip-top of your must-see list, then maybe today's news will do the trick. Today we have word that The Shining and Doctor Sleep author Stephen King himself says that Mike Flanagan's upcoming adaptation of Doctor Sleep "is going to blow your mind."
Specifically, Stephen King tweeted this out.
"This movie is going to blow your mind. If you have any left after It Chapter 2, that is."

Director Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining sequel,Doctor Sleepwill be stalking into theaters near you this November featuring Ewan McGregor as adult Danny Torrance. McGregor's Danny will be going up against a semi-vampire played by Rebecca Ferguson in a battle for the soul of a young girl with the shining named Abra Stone. The flick is damn-near at the top of my 2019 must-see horror movies, and today we have the film's trailer to share with you guys. Check it out below!

Warner Brothers' adaptation of Stephen King's sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, is happening. The sequel is directed by horror auteur Mike Flanagan, who helmed Oculus and Gerald's Game, and who recently directed one of Netflix's very best films, Gerald's Game, which itself was a King adaptation.
