The Gardener (Le Jardinier), not to be confused with the Gary Daniels/Robert Bronzi film, reunites Jean-Claude Van Damme and David Charhon who directed him in The Last Mercenary. And like that film, it’s an action comedy, but with the comedy dialed up a bit higher, and the action a bit more on the brutal side.
This time out, The Muscles From Brussels plays Leo, a man who simply wants to tend to plants on the large estate owned by Serge Shuster Special Adviser to the President of France. Nobody seems quite sure how he ended up with the position, and they think he’s a bit odd, but he does a good job so they’ve let him stay on.

When you see images of Charlotte Kirk looking like a tough action heroine, you usually expect those images to be from a Neil Marshall film, as the couple has recently collaborated on Duchess, The Lair, and The Reckoning – but yesterday, the folks at Coming Soon unveiled a trio of images that show Kirk as the tough heroine in the upcoming action thriller Myra, and this is not a Neil Marshall movie. Currently in production in Tijuana, Mexico, Myra is coming our way from director R. Ellis Frazier, whose previous credits include Across the Line: The Exodus of Charlie Wright, Dead Drop, Misfire, Rumble, 8 Days Carlo, Larceny, Legacy, Hustle Down, Repeater, As Good as Dead, and Day Labor. The images that show Kirk as the title character can now be seen in this article.

City Hunter is an action comedy film directed by Yûichi Satô from a screenplay by Tsukasa Hôjô and Tatsuro Mishima. Based on a popular manga series of the same name by Tsukasa Hojo, the Netflix film follows the story of a private investigator as he teams up with his late partner’s sister to solve his mysterious murder which is connected to a deadly conspiracy. So, if you loved the style, humor, action, and philandering ways of Ryo Saeba in City Hunter, here are some similar films you could watch next.
City Hunter Credit – Golden Harvest
31 years before Suzuki Ryohei took on the role of the philandering Ryo Saeba, the legendary Jackie Chan also starred as the main character in another adaptation of the popular manga by Tsukasa Hojo. Directed by Jing Wong, the 1993 film follows the story of a lustful private investigator who is searching for a missing girl...

Jackie Chan's lesser-known movie City Hunter features a hilarious homage to Street Fighter characters. The scene in City Hunter includes E. Honda, Guile, and Dhalsim references, with Chan cosplaying as Chun-Li. The blend of martial arts, humor, and authentic gaming references make this scene a standout in Chan's career.
Although Jackie Chan has starred in many popular martial arts movies, one of his lesser-known projects features plenty of references to one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. Jackie Chan's upcoming martial arts movies are sure to increase his popularity among critics and general audiences, but one movie from the '90s flew under the radar in the martial arts legend's career. Chan's martial arts franchises are some of the most influential, as Chan's commitment to performing his own stunts and working with global talent demonstrates his love for his craft.

Martial arts movie stars often get typecast as either heroes or villains, but some are skilled at playing both roles, like Carter Wong and Max Zhang. Another example is Gary Daniels, known for his flexibility and kicking skills, who plays both heroes and villains in martial arts films. Actors like Iko Uwais, Joe Taslim, and Dolph Lundgren have successfully portrayed both heroes and villains, showcasing their versatility in action films.
Numerous great martial arts stars play heroes and villains alike. Martial arts films are typically headlined by actors or actresses with a life-long background in formal martial arts training. Oftentimes, leads of martial arts films tend to become somewhat typecast for portraying heroes, while others go the opposite route and primarily play villains.

Warning: Spoilers for The Expendables 4 below.
Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais are wasted in The Expendables 4, with the movie not giving them enough time to show their skills. Dan Chupong and Mike Moeller are overlooked in the film, despite their impressive skills as martial artists. The Expendables 4 missed a huge opportunity by not giving Chupong and Moeller more significant roles and fight scenes with the main cast.
The Expendables 4 brings its mercenary crew back to the big screen for another mission, but also wastes the talents of two fantastic martial artists in the process. Arriving in theaters nine years after The Expendables 3, The Expendables 4 failed to reinvigorate the ensemble action franchise with poor reviews and the series's lowest opening weekend yet. The movie's disappointment is that much more unfortunate with Ong Bak's Tony Jaa and The Raid's Iko Uwais joining The Expendables franchise at last.

Andy On's portrayal of Tin-Tin Law in New Police Story showcased his martial arts skills and added a formidable presence as one of Jackie Chan's toughest villains. Ron Smoorenburg's role as a henchman in Who Am I? demonstrated his kicking prowess and enduring presence as a tough antagonist, culminating in a humorous yet intense battle with Jackie Chan. Hwang In-shik's portrayal of The Big Boss in Dragon Lord showcased his physical prowess and martial arts skills, solidifying him as one of the toughest villains in Jackie Chan's films.
Jackie Chan's movie career has been marked by not only his extraordinary martial arts skills but also by the memorable villains he has faced. Lock & Load, the sequel to 2021’s Holiday Monday, is once again directed and written by Nathan Shepka, though this time with a little additional script work by Tom Jolliffe. Shepka also returns as Nick, the independent security contractor. This time out he and his partner Derek are taking some target practice on another bank holiday when they get a call from Agent Stokes’ (Graeme MacPherson) wife. He hasn’t come home, do they know where he is?
They don’t know, though we know he’s been after arms dealer Miles Steiger and his partner The Chess Master, “Everyone’s a pawn in my game”, and unfortunately has had his cover blown.

The 1990s were an exciting period for action films, with many of them getting released direct-to-video and showing up seemingly randomly at local video stores, requiring fans of the genre to have memberships at multiple locations to get to see everything. There was so much that if attention wasn’t paid, titles would be missed easily or rented twice under different titles at different video stores. Stars emerged within those ranks and gathered the love and adoration of fans. Here are the 10 of the best Dtv action stars of that era:
Dolph Lundgren
Let’s start with the obvious man on the list, the one that everyone saw films from at their local video stores. Lundgren had films that were released in theaters, on video, and direct to cable in some cases during the 1990s, but one thing is for sure, he was a mainstay of the action film aisle...

Live-action adaptations of anime can be a major gamble as a large chunk of them have disappointed fans of the source material. In Japan, a significant share of anime are based on manga, but many are equally respected or even more acclaimed than the original literature. Capturing the over-the-top action, surrealist themes and visual vibrancy becomes a Herculean task when it comes to translating the manga/anime narrative to a live-action format. This would perhaps explain why many One Piece aficionados were immediately concerned ever since Netflix announced its live-action adaptation of the long-running anime. After all, Netflix has previously produced disastrous adaptations like Death Note and Cowboy Bebop.
The One Piece trailer disproved the worst fears about the Netflix adaptation, even though it definitely will struggle to match the iconic status of the original. While American productions are definitely notorious for helming some heavily-panned adaptations like Ghost in the Shell and Dragonball Evolution,...

Jackie Chan has fought numerous fellow action heroes over the course of his career. In the action movie world, Jackie Chan needs no introduction, having dedicated his life to a blend of action, comedy, and martial arts that is uniquely his own. Additionally, Jackie Chan has also performed innumerable death-defying stunts throughout his career, with his movies frequently featuring outtakes of stunts gone wrong and the many injuries he has incurred.
With martial arts being such an integral element of all Jackie Chan movies, he has also been at the center of some of the most impressive fight scenes ever put to film. While many fellow stuntpeople and martial artists have had fight scenes opposite Chan and gone on to great careers themselves, Jackie Chan has also fought quite a few big martial arts movie stars. The slasher and the actioner seem like two disparate types of movies, however, both often feature a high degree of suspense, lengthy chases, and a lot of death. A slasher villain will hunt down hapless victims, whereas an action hero may go after one enemy or a whole group of them. Grisly kills and an assortment of weapons are also to be expected.
Now, there are some action movies that infuse more slasher elements than others. Classics like The Terminator and Predator are unmistakably modeled after slashers, but they’re not the only ones. Others take on the traits of slashers more than their peers, ultimately creating a more unique viewing experience.
The following ten lesser seen movies give action and slasher fans the best of both worlds.

With John Wick: Chapter 4 exploding at the box office and Donnie Yen experience a new wave of popularity in North American, now’s the time to look at another of the movie’s stars who’s been around for a long time but is consistently underrated. Of course, that man is the great Scott Adkins! Those who know him, love him. With over 70 movies to his credit, the man has been in at least one thing everyone has seen, from Doctor Strange to X-Men Origins: Wolverine (as Weapon X), The Pink Panther, and so many more, He has been in something for everyone. For us, the highlights of his career are not necessarily the obvious titles when glancing at his resume.
Here are our some of our favorite Scott Adkins movies:
The Expendables 2 (2012)
Admittedly not as good as the first film, The Expendables 2 did bring a few good villains to the screen.

One of the most prolific names in action cinema is Michael Jai White. He made his incredible mark by taking on a complex role in his breakthrough performance as Mike Tyson in the HBO original film, Tyson, which can still be viewed on HBO Max. He was the first and only actor to date to bring the cult comic superhero Spawn to life on the big screen. And today, you can see him in his new action film, in which he stars and wrote, titled As Good As Dead.

Screen Rant is thrilled to present an exclusive clip from Saban Films' upcoming action thriller Repeater. The new movie follows John Smith (Paul Sidhu), the skilled hitman whose recent messy job has drawn the wrong kind of attention. "Do whatever it takes." Saban Films has revealed a trailer for an indie action thriller titled Repeater, from action director R. Ellis Frazier. Unfortunately this isn't a time loop sci-fi, it's one of these dime-a-dozen trash action films they're dropping all the time these days. "Find. Kill. Repeat." For hit man Smith, these are the only words to live by. But a botched job forces him to take a high-stakes open contract arranged by his handler. Smith's latest target? The hacker-activist Rousseau, who has run afoul of corrupt corporations and powerful men like Silver. In the border towns of Mexico, Smith confronts local gangs, competing contract killers Botha and Sykes, and a crisis of conscience with deadly consequences. The film stars Paul Sidhu, Kristanna Loken, Nick Moran, James Faulkner, with Corbin Bernsen and Gary Daniels. Ugh this looks as generic and as forgettable as they come, everything is so derivative and uninteresting.

The 1990s had a plethora of action films, and movies in general, released direct-to-video. The film rental business was booming, and some video stores even hosted signing events with the stars to promote the films and their business. Direct to video action films were the most popular Dtv genre (next to soft-core erotica) and they were produced by the ton. Every week brought a new bunch of options to your local Blockbuster or Mom & Pop store. For the purpose of this list, the titles selected are fun watches even now, that were released direct-to-video for the majority of the population, and they were decently popular on the video store shelves. Without further ado, here are 5 of our favorites!

"Where are the diamonds?!?!" Uncork'd Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an action crime thriller titled Bring Him Back Dead, another of these direct-to-video junk movies they're whipping out all the time. A violent gang of criminals is ordered, after a botched heist, to track down and eliminate the man who betrayed them and ran off with their loot. Action veteran Gary Daniels stars as the "anti-hero" of the film, while Louis Mandylor plays the leader of the gang, and Daniel Baldwin a man with mysterious motives. The distributor tries to hype this up: "Non-stop action, three bonafide action legends, and Mark Savage at the helm? A must-see for action fans!" The cast also includes Katie Keene, Ryan M. Shaw, LeJon Woods, Zhuzha Akova, and Chris Torem. This looks absolutely terrible, but sometimes I think that's the point. Who watches these awful films anyway? It's not worth even a 0.99 rental price.

The film stars Robert Bronzi (from Death Kiss and Escape from Death Block 13 - who looks a lot like Charles Bronson) as "The Gardener", along with Gary Daniels, Sarah T. Cohen, Nicola Wright,...

It hasn’t taken long for writer/director Ross Boyask to follow up 2018’s Vengeance (aka I Am Vengeance) with a sequel, probably because that film struck a massive chord with genre fans across the globe – respecting the action genre’s vast, and may I say beloved, past, whilst delivering a modern take on the traditional Dtv action film; and, of course, featuring Stu Bennett in a compelling lead role. I’m guessing that the fact Bennett was on UK screens as part of World of Sport wrestling And had a huge name presence thanks to his former WWE career didn’t hurt either.

When ex-soldier turned mercenary, John Gold (Bennett), learns of the murder of his best friend, he sets off on a mission to find out what happened. What he discovers is a sinister conspiracy and he sets about taking down those responsible one by one.
Since parting ways with the WWE, former superstar Stu Bennett (aka Wade Barrett) has turned his hand to a career as a movie hard man. First as the villain in the fantastic Scott Adkins movie Eliminators and now here in Vengeance – where he takes on a more heroic role. Well I say hero, but it’s more in the sense of a vengeful, single-minded anti-hero in the grand revenge-seeking tradition of Charles Bronson.

"You best stop shooting your mouth off, now – or you're a dead man!" Saban Films + Lionsgate have just released an official trailer for another one of these low budget, super cheesy, totally awful-looking action films. This one is titled I Am Vengeance, a variation on the original Vengeance title for UK release. I Am Vengeance stars former WWE wrestler Stu Bennett (who wrestled under the name Wade "King" Barrett) as an ex-Special Forces soldier turned professional mercenary, who goes to a small town to investigate the murder of a friend and his parents. The film's cast includes Keith Allen, Gary Daniels, Anna Shaffer, Bryan Larkin, Sean Blowers, Sapphire Elia, Mark Griffin, and Wayne Gordon. I'm so, so tired of these films, only about guns and muscles and bravado and being men and honor and glory and all that crap. Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Ross Boyask's I Am Vengeance,...

"What would you do if your child was from another galaxy?" File this under "Don't Watch", which means you'll probably watch it any just to see how bad it is. An official trailer has debuted for an indie sci-fi feature titled Astro, and it looks terrible in every single way. The story is about some billionaire's space exploration program bringing back an alien from another planet, or something like that. The film's cast includes Gary Daniels, Marshal Hilton, Courtney Akbar, Max Wasa, Louis Mandylor, and Michael Paré. This trailer is a mess, the CGI is horrible, I don't even know what's going on. This site also describes it nicely: "A Bland Uninspired Sci-Fi Mess." Brian Steele Medina of Gemini Syndrome, composed the music and sound FX for the trailer, which also features the unreleased track "We Are the Fallen" written by the alternative metal band. The original score is composed by Erick Schroeder.

Ok, let’s all just say it together. Scott Adkins is the saviour of Dtv action movies. Charismatic, skilled and just a downright badass (and likeable) actor, whatever Adkins seemingly touches turns to gold – the Universal Soldier franchise was improved by his addition, as was the Undisputed series: in fact he made that particular fighting franchise Better with each and every sequel. Even the football-themed series Green Street was made watchable by the appearance of Adkins in the third installment, and that coming from someone who, typically, refuses to watch movies based on idiotic football hooligans.
Hold on… Turns out I may have a man-crush on Scott Adkins! And that’s not a bad thing.

For fans of 80s action cinema, No Retreat No Surrender holds a special place. We've been speaking to the man behind the series...
If you were a kid in the 1980s and you liked action movies, chances are you rented No Retreat No Surrender at some point. It was like a more violent, high-octane take on The Karate Kid, with all-American teen Jason (Kurt McKinney) getting martial arts tutelage from no less than The Ghost Of Bruce Lee so he could kick the ass of a muscly Russian (Jean-Claude Van Damme in his first major role). As a kid, this movie was everything to me. It was a 15 cert so a little bit edgy, but still simple and wholesome enough for young me to totally ‘get it’. I had tears streaming down my face the first time I watched it, I was so invested in the final fight.

Bruce Lee is well known for his martial arts abilities, but have you ever wondered how his fame and notoriety came to be? The story of Bruce Lee is told in full in the upcoming DVD release of “Legend Of Bruce Lee: Volume One,” which debuts on November 1, 2016.
Volume one stars Danny Chan who plays a younger, college-aged Lee. At this point in Lee’s life, Lee has no interest in studying or perusing the normal path students his age normally do; his passion is for martial arts. Lee resolves himself to this passion after losing a street fight to some gang members. He finds his master, Master Ye Wen, and begins his tutelage of Kung Fu. Lee is then targeted by local gang members and must flee to America where he teaches martial arts at the University of Washington. Also in America, he meets an American girl named Linda,...
