Aaliyah had a way of turning heads wherever she went, including those of hip-hop royalty. But even Jay-Z couldn’t make it past her friend zone.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, few artists shone as brightly or as gracefully as Aaliyah. Known for her distinctive sound, style, and presence, she quickly became a cultural icon. As her star rose, so did curiosity about her personal life, particularly her relationships. Among the many drawn to her was rapper and now Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z, whose interest in Aaliyah became the subject of persistent industry chatter.
Rumors swirled in 1999 suggesting that the two were quietly dating, especially after being seen together at several high-profile events. While fans speculated about a possible romance, Aaliyah never explicitly confirmed anything.
Later, Damon Dash, her boyfriend at the time of her tragic death, revealed what really happened. According to Dash, Jay-Z had pursued Aaliyah with considerable effort,...

The Real Housewives of New Jersey is on pause until who knows when, and even if it returns, the cast might be different.
However, Gia Giudice dubbed the next generation of Housewives, is not too worried about the show because she’s already booked and busy.
Gia is working on several projects, including a new reality TV show featuring other celebrity kids.
She recently teased the new series, noting that it will be “a lot different” than Rhonj and that she’s excited for people to see it.
Making it in Manhattan is set to premiere sometime in 2025, but the network has not yet shared a release date.
However, Gia mentioned the trailer during a recent interview, revealing that the show will air very soon.

The universe is a funny place. Isn’t it? One moment, you’re a rising star ready to light up the sky, and the next, you’re staring at the constellation you once admired, wondering where all the credit went. This is exactly what Damon Dash, the Roc-a-Fella co-founder, seems to be grappling with as he reflects on his career and his relationships in Hollywood.

In a recent conversation with Art of the Dialogue, Dash doesn’t mince words about his frustrations, particularly when it comes to Kevin Hart, the comedian he claims to have discovered. The man who has played an instrumental role in launching the careers of countless celebrities is now calling out some of them for not paying it forward.

When friendships fall apart, it’s rarely about one simple thing. It’s often a series of small cracks that eventually lead to a breaking point. While many fans and industry insiders know of the rift between Dame Dash and Jay-Z, the details behind it are often shrouded in mystery. But in a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, Dash revealed the key issue that ultimately caused him to walk away from Roc-a-Fella Records.

Dash explained that his decision to part ways with Jay-Z was rooted in the controversial partnership between the rapper and R. Kelly. The latter had married Dash’s ex-girlfriend, Aaliyah, when she was just 15. This event had already caused a stir in the public eye, and for Dash, it was an issue that couldn’t be ignored. “Everybody was trying to get to Aaliyah”: Jay-Z Tried Really Hard to Date Beyonce’s Rival but Failed
August 25, 2001, was a dark day for the music industry when the promising Princess of R&b passed away. As Aaliyah boarded a plane with eight other people in the Bahamas, little did she know that that was going to be her last day in this world. While the late singer did her own thing in the music industry, fans have been putting her up against Beyoncé, questioning how the former’s music would have impacted the latter’s career.

While the Internet is divided on the topic, there is one thing the two singers had in common apart from the R&b genre – Jay-Z. When Aaliyah was riding the waves of her well-deserved fame, every man in the industry wanted her by his side, including Jay-Z apparently. At least, that’s what her former lover Damon Dash has stated.

The venue, a downtown Manhattan club on a side street thronged with everyone from movie stars to wannabes hoping to gain entry to the party that was still raging at 3 a.m., had been at capacity since midnight. As the editor-in-chief of Honey, a prominent magazine for urban women, I’d been ushered in long before. Inside, the crowd — a mix of artists, music and media executives, fashion designers, actors, sports stars, entrepreneurs and models — lounged in their respective red leather-clad banquettes. Bursts of shimmery light would periodically illuminate corners of the dim sexy room as leggy waitresses in black barely-there uniforms lit sparklers and delivered bottles of Cristal to various VIPs. The DJ spun hip-hop banger after banger, and I hadn’t left the dance floor for hours. Suddenly, the DJ lowered the music and our host, Puff Daddy (or Diddy or Love or Sean Combs or whatever you...

Damon Dash, Jay Z’s former business partner and co-founder of Roc-a-Fella Records, found himself in an unfortunate viral moment with rapper 50 Cent.
While streaming on Instagram Live, a fan asked Dash if he would work with fellow music mogul 50 Cent. The question came days after the rapper took a jab at Dash on the podcast Millon Dollaz Worth Of Game. The rapper reminisced on his 2002 million-dollar deal with Shady Side Records, declaring, “The only person that pointed out a million dollars was no money was Damon Dash, and he has no money now.”
Dash was unbothered by 50 Cents’ remarks, calling him a worthy opponent on his livestream. But his calm demeanor was deteriorated quickly after. “I wanna see if you’re the real deal. See if I’m the real deal,” he added.

Jay-Z and Damon Dash have settled the latest bout in their longstanding feud, this one over Dash’s alleged attempt to mint and sell part of the copyright to Jay’s Reasonable Doubt as a non-fungible token.
In court papers filed Monday, June 13, lawyers for the two parties announced an agreement that stipulated Dash could sell his one-third stake in Roc-a-Fella Records, but he could not “in any way dispose of any property interest in Reasonable Doubt.” The agreement also officially dismisses the claims Raf brought against Dash without prejudice.

Since nostalgia for any era begins about two decades after the fact, early-2000s look-backs have arrived right on schedule. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s Super Bowl takeover returned us to their end-of-the-century breakouts; Bernie Sanders couldn’t have picked a more circa-2001 rock band for a rally than the Strokes; Jessica Simpson, once a national punchline after her Chicken of the Sea confusion, has a memoir at the top of the New York Times bestseller list; and suddenly everyone is re-examining Mandy Moore’s pre–This Is Us pop career.

Without overstating the case, it’s hard to imagine that R. Kelly would not be in jail today if not for “Surviving R. Kelly.” While many of the details and accusers featured in the Lifetime docuseries were new, the primary facts have been known for many years — and yet the series, more than any of the news reports over the decade since he was acquitted on child-pornography charges in 2008, put all of the facts into a single powerful context. And the fact that there was a gun threat at the docuseries’ first screening in New York only amplified the air of criminality around it.
Almost exactly one year later, “Surviving R. Kelly Part II: The Reckoning” takes a look at the events of the past year that led to multiple new charges and accusations against the singer, the demise of his empire and his current indefinite incarceration as he awaits trial in three states.
