Kaitlyn Dever cured her cancer with a little apple cider vinegar — or, at least, that's what her character in the new Netflix series Apple Cider Vinegar would have you believe. The true story (based on a lie) has been turned into a dark comedy show for the streaming service, and its new trailer makes it look like one you won't want to miss.
Also starring The 100 and Fear The Walking Dead star Alycia Debnam-Carey and The Bold Type's Aisha Dee, the show follows two women setting out to cure their life-threatening illnesses with health and wellness rather than, say, certified medical science. Apple Cider Vinegar centers its gaze on early Instagram scammer Belle Gibson (Dever), an "Australian wellness influencer who claims to have cured her terminal brain cancer through health and wellness," per the official Netflix press release. Inspired by John Ibrahim’s best-selling autobiography, Helium’s 10-parter stars Academy Award-nominee Roth as Ezra Shipman, a kingpin in Sydney’s Kings Cross nightclub district in the 1980s and 1990s. Roth replaced Ian McShane in one of the lead roles earlier this year.
Lincoln Younes and Claude Jabbour also lead as two Lebanese teenagers who arrive in Australia and quickly enter an underworld, making a name for themselves as the cocaine wave hits Kings Cross.
Paramount+ Australia greenlit the show and Cineflix Rights is exclusive international distributor. Produced by Mark Fennessy and Karl Zwicky, and...

After handing over the reins at Endemol Shine Australia last year, Mark Fennessy has officially launched his next venture, Helium.
The Sydney-based company will comprise three arms – Helium Studios, Helium Pictures and Helium Records – blending the producer’s passions of film/TV and music.
As an independent production label, Helium will have a primary focus on premium scripted and premium factual. Fennessy, who will act as the company’s chief creative officer, tells If his focus is on the “premium, contemporary, noisy, disruptive”.
“Via a growing stable of artists and creative talent, coupled with a unique network of storytellers, writers, and producers, we’re committed to building sustainable and truly rewarding partnerships,” he says.
On the Helium launch slate is the previously announced Last King of the Cross, in pre-production for Paramount+; feature film 6 Festivals, also for Paramount+, and crime thriller series Sex and Thugs and Rock n Roll, in advanced development.

Marvel projects may be drawing a slew of high-profile actors to Australia, but it seems there are also local productions inversely capable of attracting MCU talent.
Christopher James Baker has been back in his native country for the past year following more than a decade in New York, during which he starred in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and also shot the upcoming DC Universe Series, Stargirl.
He has been able to hit the ground running following his return, with roles in Stan’s eight-part mystery drama Eden, as well as Goalpost’s gold rush drama New Gold Mountain.
Baker will first be seen in the former, which is set to premiere on the streaming platform on June 11.
The Every Cloud Productions/Balloon Entertainment series centres on the disappearance of a young woman and a subsequent chain of events that serves to lay bare dark and hidden secrets within the titular coastal town.

Aquarius Films has acquired development and production rights to dystopian sci-fi thriller novel The Subjugate and is teaming with Anonymous Content to produce a TV adaptation.
Written by award winner Amanda Bridgeman, the Subjugates book series is set in 2040, watching as a series of murders sends shockwaves through the religious community of Bountiful. Heading to the city to investigate the crimes are two homicide detectives, who are met with little other than open hostility. While the obvious suspects are “The Subjugates”—violent offenders who are turned into town servants, known as Serenes—unsettling wrinkles in the case emerge, as the detectives set out on parallel investigations.
Aquarius Films founders Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford will produce the long-format series, along with Luke Rivett and Ryan Cunningham of Anonymous Content.

American Alex Zakrzewski, whose credits include Blue Bloods, Bosch, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and CSI: NY, was the set-up director on the series commissioned by Disney’s ABC network, which stars Sydney-born Poppy Montgomery.
Shawn Seet, Kieran Darcy-Smith and Sian Davies are each directing one episode while Peter Andrikidis, Grant Brown and Fiona Banks will each do two.
All are benefiting from a ground-breaking deal which the Australian Directors Guild signed with the producers, ABC Studios and ABC Studios International.

A cinematically flat, sluggish western that feels altogether bloodless despite offering up several splatterings of runny red stuff, The Duel is a messy misfire, shooting itself in the foot with disjointed storytelling and a lack of artistic vision. It’s a forgettable, muddled affair that’s elevated to a certain extent by two leads whose contrasting styles go together unexpectedly well – just about the only positive note that’s worth pointing out.
Bringing a brooding, poker-faced presence to the rivalry at the center of the film is Liam Hemsworth, who plays Texas Ranger David Kingston. It’s 1866, a time when the Rio Grande acted as the border between Mexico and the United States; when a procession of Mexican corpses start floating down the river, David is sent on an undercover mission by his Ranger superiors to investigate the prime suspect, a religious leader named Abraham Brant (a crackling, witty Woody Harrelson...

Not even Woody Harrelson hamming it up on a horse can inject excitement into this torpid western turned xenophobic parable with Liam Hemsworth
You may be expecting a pistol or a rifle, but Kieran Darcy-Smith’s The Duel uses a more unusual weapon. All who step to it will quake beneath the power of its tedium. A truly remarkable cinematic soporific, one might want buy a DVD copy to keep round the house, just in case the local pharmacist runs out of sleep aids.
What’s most unfortunate about this traditional good v evil tale from the old west is that its story had potential, but as if fulfilling the requirements of a twisted dare, Darcy-Smith stitches the story together in the most defiantly boring style imaginable. Not even the sight of Woody Harrelson atop a horse in a bright white leather duster and top hat make this worth checking out.

After gaining attention for the Joel Edgerton-led drama Wish You Were Here a few years back, director Kieran Darcy-Smith fairly quickly followed it up with By Way of Helena, which shot in the fall of 2014. With it’s been mostly radio silence since then, it’s now emerged as The Duel and we’ll see it in just a few months.
Led by Woody Harrelson, Liam Hemsworth, Alice Braga, and Emory Cohen, the first trailer has arrived, which reveals the story of a Texas Ranger uncovering a series of murders in a town featuring Harrelson’s preacher character. Scripted by Triple 9‘s Matt Cook, it doesn’t look to have that same level of grit within John Hillcoat’s film, but perhaps that’s a good thing. Check out the trailer and poster below.

"You have no idea what's going on here!" Lionsgate Premiere has debuted a trailer for a film called The Duel, formerly known as By Way of Helena, a western about a Texas Ranger who takes on an oppressive, violent preacher watching over a town. Liam Hemsworth plays the Ranger, and Woody Harrelson plays the evil pastor, and the two end up in a kind of standoff in this small town. The full cast includes Emory Cohen, William Hurt, Alice Braga, William Sadler, Benedict Samuel & Raphael Sbarge. This looks solid, but they do give away a big plot point in the trailer. Western fans might want to take a look. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Kieran Darcy-Smith's The Duel, originally from EW.com: In the Great Plains during 1880s, Texas Ranger David Kingston is sent to an Old West frontier town Helena to investigate a series of murders and disappearances of local people.
