The world’s most famous fat cat is coming to theaters soon. “Garfield,” an animated film starring Chris Pratt as the famous Jim Davis comic strip character, will premiere in theaters Feb. 16, 2024.

In addition to Pratt, the film will also star Samuel L. Jackson as a brand-new character to the Garfield universe, Vic, who is the father of the orange feline. The plot that will bring Garfield’s father back into his life remains under wraps. Although no other cast members have been announced, the film will presumably feature classic characters from the franchise, including his owner Jon Arbuckle and dim-witted puppy Odie.

The animated movie represents the latest big screen outing for the iconic lasagna-loving misanthrope. Bill Murray famously voiced the character in two live-action and CGI-hybrid films, 2004’s “Garfield: The Movie” and its 2006 sequel “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties.” The two films received largely negative reviews, but were both commercially successful.

Garfield is one of the biggest jokes on the internet. Not necessarily because he's funny, but sometimes actually because of his lack of funniness. There has been Garfield minus Garfield, along with plenty of other funny jokes. Well, Jim Davis, creator of Garfield, is getting his own chance to draw for Marvel Comics now.

In a special Squirrel Girl issue where the characters in the Marvel Universe will be writing their own comics telling stories. Ryan North, the writer of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl has contacted many different artists to add their own style and influence to the comic to give each character who writes in it a voice. After two live-action/CGI comedy adventures, everyone's favorite cat Garfield is heading back to the big screen, only this time, the reboot will be a fully CG-animated movie. Alcon Entertainment made the announcement today after it secured the exclusive movie rights to the comic strip created by Jim Davis. Jim Davis is attached to the movie as an executive producer.

Alcon is hoping to launch a new CG-animated franchise based on the grumpy feline who loves lasagna and hates Mondays. No story details have been released at this time. And it's doubtful Bill Murray will return to reprise his voice role as Garfield.

Alcon Entertainment has secured exclusive rights to produce a new fully CG-animated feature based on the comic strip "Garfield" which would likely be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

The Garfield comic strip debuted in 1978 and follows a cynical and lazy orange cat and his interactions with owner Jon Arbuckle and fellow pet Odie, a dog. Garfield currently holds the record for being the most widely syndicated comic strip in the world with an estimated readership of 260 million.

The company acquired the rights from Jim Davis, creator of the Garfield comic series, who will also serve as an executive producer. Alcon's Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove along with Steven P. Wegner and "Despicable Me" series producer John Cohen will all produce.

I was a huge fan of Peanuts when I was a kid. I can vividly remember staying up late in bed reading collections of the comic strip until I could barely keep my eyes open. This should make me the ideal audience for The Peanuts Movie, but instead it just serves as a reminder of how far this franchise has fallen. I have this hipster-esque longing for a time before Peanuts became so damn commercial (a time that never existed in my lifetime, mind you) and back before the Schulz estate seemed locked in a nefarious race with Jim Davis of Garfield to see who can make the most money with the least amount of artistic effort. Above you'll find the first comic that artist Bill Watterson has created since he retired Calvin & Hobbes in 1995. It is actually a poster that he created for a documentary film called Stripped. The doc explores the creation of these comic strips and their transition from newspapers to digital. It features interviews with the creators of Garfield, Cathy, For Better or For Worse, The Oatmeal, Penny Arcade, and even Watterson himself, who rarely gives interviews.

Watterson spoke to The Washington Post and explained the poster he did for the movie:

Back in 1981, Jim Davis received a posthumous Emmy nod as the Ewing family patriarch on the CBS blockbuster soap opera "Dallas." It’s an ingeniously simple concept – take Garfield out of the Garfield strips. What’ve you got left? His mad owner, Jon Arbuckle wandering about his house making bizarre statements and doing nutty things. And it’s both utterly hilarious and startlingly sad.

I was never the biggest fan of Garfield, or any newspaper strip really, so I never really noticed just how strange Jon is, mostly because the paradigm of Jon and Garfield works so well. The setup is always Jon lamenting his rather lonely existence or doing something desperate for some excitement in his life and then Garfield showing up and “saying” something sarcastic.

Because Garfield never really says anything – all of his “dialogue” is in thought bubbles, so despite Dan Walsh’s brilliant idea of removing Garfield from the strips to show how lonely Jon Arbuckle is by talking to himself, he’s actually always been talking...

Remember back in the day when Garfield and his friends went on zany and fun-filled adventures? It was a simpler time when cartoons offered something back then few cartoons today provide, entertainment. Jim Davis’ quirky orange lasagna-loving feline was the star of a celebrated comic strip and a cool animated series. Unfortunately, Garfield’s awesomeness ended in the early 2000s when a CG/live-action film ruined the famous cat’s name and even further damage to the character was done by a computer-animated series called The Garfield Show. A special holiday-themed DVD is now out of this disaster of a show and aren’t we lucky.

You can’t keep a good thing down. 14 years after their last public debacle, the Ewing family is returning to the primetime limelight in the resurrected “Dallas.” The show officially went off the air in 1991 after 13 seasons, a miniseries, and a TV-movie. TV-movies reunited the Ewings in 1996 and 1998, proving that fans couldn’t get enough drama from Texas’ first family of oil. Now they’re back again and they’ve dragged the kids into it.

The new series premieres Wednesday, June 13 on TNT. It revolves around the continuing family infighting of the Ewings. However this time around, J.R. (Larry Hagman), Bobby (Patrick Duffy), and Sue Ellen (Linda Gray) are the referees to the scheming battles between their sons John Ross (Josh Henderson) and Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe). Their significant others are caught in the crossfire and no doubt add to the trouble the dysfunctional family makes for themselves.

Bosses of TV hit Dallas have lined up a series of tributes to the show's late stars Barbara Bel Geddes and Jim Davis for its relaunch this year.

Bel Geddes, who played Ewing family matriarch Miss Ellie, died in 2005, and in the first Dallas broadcast since her passing, her screen son Bobby will be seen visiting the character's grave.

Viewers will be told Miss Ellie died in 2001.

Patrick Duffy, who steps back into his role as Bobby when the show relaunches in the U.S. in June, tells TVGuide.com, "Barbara is a big piece of our history, and it's important to me to honour her. To come back with Linda (Gray) as Sue Ellen and Larry (Hagman) in his J.R. hat, and then see the words Ellie Southworth Ewing Farlow on the gravestone made me think, 'Oh, that's right - she's gone.' It was hard to get through the dialogue."

Duffy reveals producers have also factored in a nod to Jim Davis, who played Miss Ellie's husband Jock Ewing until his death in 1981, by asking designer Richard Berg to paint a portrait of Jock and Miss Ellie which hangs in the family home at Southfork Ranch in the new series.

Duffy adds, "He captured Jim and Barbara in a look to each other that is unbelievable. That painting is actually alive and gives me a nice feeling that they're always there. Through the whole first season, I don't think an episode goes by that Mama is not mentioned in reference to Southfork and the land."...

An auction of Dallas star Larry Hagman's personal items netted more than $$500,000 (£304,971) over the weekend. The actor made a personal appearance to entice potential buyers to "bid high and bid often" on Saturday at La auction house Julien's, Dallas TV station Wfaa-tv reports. Dallas legend Larry Hagman raised more than $500,000 (£313,000) after auctioning off a portion of his memorabilia collection on Saturday.

The TV villain, famed for his portrayal of sleazy oil tycoon J.R. Ewing, sold off a number of personal valuables collected over the years at Julien's Auctions in California.

Hagman, who opened the sale in style by riding through the streets of Beverly Hills on horseback, was on hand to describe the items going under the hammer for bidders, according to the Associated Press.

The best-selling lot was a silver saddle, which fetched a staggering $80,000 (£50,000), while a portrait of his late Dallas co-star Jim Davis went for more than $38,000 (£24,000).

A replica bottle from I Dream of Jeannie, the show that gave Hagman his big break, sold for more than $10,000 (£6,250) and a pair of pistols brought in more than $4,000 (£2,500).

Growing up, I looked forward to the Garfield comic strip featured in the Sunday paper funnies each weekend. Garfield, a large orange tabby cat with an attitude problem and a massive appetite, bore a striking resemblance to my own beloved pet at the time, and the interactions between him, his hapless owner Jon, and the adorably stupid dog Odie were greatly entertaining. They lived relatively mundane lives, but creator Jim Davis inserted a healthy dose of absurdity and humor into even those everyday situations. However, I have had very little interest in the live-action adaptations of the cartoon, with Garfield voiced by Bill Murray; as much as I love both Murray and Garfield, something about those movies just seems indefinably wrong. However, I was eager to give the animated versions of these characters a shot in a nostalgic attempt to relive that part of my childhood.
