World Professional Snooker Champion 6 times between 1981 and 1989.

He was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1988 Queen's Honours List before being awarded the O.B.E. (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2000 Queen's Millennium Honors List for his services to snooker.

The 1980s satirical puppet show "Spitting Image" portrayed him as being incredibly dull. It was this show that gave him the nickname "Interesting" Steve Davis.

Davis takes this in good humour and often plays upon this image in sports game shows such as "They Think It's All Over" and "A Question of Sport".

He is a Patron Celebrity Supporter of Orchid Cancer Appeal in the United Kingdom.

Achieved the first televised snooker 147 maximum break in 1982. He was also the youngest player to do so, aged 24, until James Wattana, aged 20, in 1991.

[on his retirement] I should have done it ages ago; I played a bit for my father. I am delighted to have such a great time in the game. I was lucky to have a hobby as my profession...The game will move on to other places but I feel like the grandfather of the sport.

Billiards is very similar to snooker, except there are only three balls and no one watches it.
