Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995) – The Best Scene
House II: The Second Story (1987)
After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood) and House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year), JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek continues his The Best Scene video series by digging into what he feels is the best scene from the 1995 classic Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight (watch it Here). Lance’s choice for the best scene in this one is the scene where Billy Zane’s character The Collector gives up his cowboy disguise and reveals his true nature. You can hear all about it in the video embedded above!

Directed by Ernest Dickerson from a screenplay written by Mark Bishop, Ethan Reiff, and Cyrus Voris, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight has the following synopsis: Ex-soldier Frank Brayker is the guardian of an ancient key that can unlock tremendous evil; the sinister but charming...

Wrong Turn (2021)
New UK Trailer for Appalachian Backwoods Cult Horror 'Wrong Turn'
Wrong Turn (2021)
"Descendants of these people are still living up their on the mountain?" Signature Entertainment in the UK has released a new UK trailer for the backwoods horror thriller titled Wrong Turn, from filmmaker Mike P. Nelson. We featured the full US trailer a month ago. Technically speaking, this is actually the seventh film in the Wrong Turn franchise, despite the same title. This time around, friends hiking the Appalachian Trail are confronted by "The Foundation", a cult community of killers who have lived in the mountains for hundreds of years. Suddenly under siege, Jen and her group of friends seem headed right to the point of no return. Starring Charlotte Vega, Adain Bradley, Bill Sage, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee, Daisy Head, Tim DeZarn, as well as Matthew Modine. This is a much better trailer than the other one, way more intense and more footage of the freaky stuff that happens in the woods.

Eliza Dushku in Wrong Turn (2003)
Beware The Foundation in Appalachian Horror Film 'Wrong Turn' Trailer
Eliza Dushku in Wrong Turn (2003)
"We don't bother them, and they don't bother us." Saban Films has released an official trailer for an indie backwoods horror thriller titled Wrong Turn, from filmmaker Mike P. Nelson. Not to be confused with an entirely separate horror franchise also known as Wrong Turn - though this is actually the seventh film in that very franchise. The original title is Wrong Turn: The Foundation, but they went with that trend of "let's just use the title of the original film all over again." This time around, friends hiking the Appalachian Trail are confronted by "The Foundation", a community of killers who have lived in the mountains for hundreds of years. Suddenly under siege, Jen & her friends seem headed to the point of no return. Starring Charlotte Vega, Adain Bradley, Bill Sage, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee, Daisy Head, Tim DeZarn, as well as Matthew Modine. This looks like yet another...

Despite warnings to stick to the trail, the hikers stray off course—and cross into land inhabited by The Foundation, a hidden community of mountain dwellers who use deadly means to protect their way of life. Eliza Dushku in Wrong Turn (2003)
Wrong Turn reboot trailer brings horror back to the woods
Eliza Dushku in Wrong Turn (2003)
In 2003, a group of friends took a Wrong Turn on a back-road and ran into a group of cannibalistic inbred mountain men. The slasher film went on to spawn a series of five direct-to-video sequels (the first of which remains a favourite of mine) but the time has finally arrived for a reboot. Saban Films have released the first trailer for Wrong Turn, a reimagining of the long-running franchise that stars Charlotte Vega, Adain Bradley, Bill Sage, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee, Daisy Head, Tim DeZarn, and…...

Wrong Turn Reboot Set To Hit Theaters Next Month
After almost 20 years, the Wrong Turn franchise is returning to theaters. 2003’s Eliza Dushku-fronted slasher flick became a sleeper hit that spawned five – yes, five – straight-to-dvd sequels. The last installment released back in 2014, but the series has been rebooted now and you can catch the seventh entry next month.

In 2021’s Wrong Turn, Charlotte Vega stars as Jen, who embarks on a hike along the Appalachian Trail with her friends. Unfortunately, and despite dire warnings to stick to the path, the gang soon veers off course and crosses into the land belonging to The Foundation, a hidden community of mountain dwellers who will protect their way of life at any cost. Will Jen’s father (Stranger Things star Matthew Modine) be able to reach them in time?

Official Trailer and Poster for the Wrong Turn Reimagining
Image
Since the first one came out in 2003, we've seen six movies released in the Wrong Turn franchise (with Joe Lynch's Wrong Turn 2: Dead End still one of my favorite horror sequels ever), and early next year the cannibal franchise will be rebooted with a new Wrong Turn, which is teased in its official trailer ahead of its January release.

Directed by Mike P. Nelson from a screenplay by Alan B. McElroy (writer of 2003's Wrong Turn), the new Wrong Turn stars Charlotte Vega, Adain Bradley, Bill Sage, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee, Daisy Head, Tim DeZarn, and Matthew Modine.

The trailer (see below) was exclusively debuted by Entertainment Weekly's Clark Collis, who reports that the film will be released for one night only in theaters on January 26th via Saban Films and Fathom Events.

‘Acts of Desperation’ VOD Review
Stars: Jason Gedrick, Paul Sorvino, Erin O’Brien, Kira Reed Lorsch, Treva Etienne, Tim DeZarn, Neraida Bega, Dee Dee Sorvino, Vince Lozano, Chris Coppola, Matthew Alan Brady, Asante Jones, Tomas Johansson, Jackie Falcon | Written by Nathan Illsley | Directed by Richard Friedman

Richard Friedman, whom genre fans will know as the director of Arrow Video titles Doom Asylum and Scared Stiff, helms this cop drama starring Jason Gedrick – an actor who’s probably most well-known for the Iron Eagle franchise of the 80s but whom also starred in one of the most underrated TV cop shows of the 90s, Ez Streets. Friedman is no stranger to cop dramas either, having helmed episodes of Silk Stalkings and Baywatch Nights alongside a myriad of genre television.

With Acts of Desperation Friedman manages to parlay all his experiences into one film; the ridiculousness of films like Doom Asylum and Phantom of the Mall melded...

120 Essential Horror Scenes Part 10: Legends & Omens
Almost every horror movie stops for a moment of exposition that sets up or explains the horrors that await or that have been endured. These are the scenes where directors can either conjure their inner cheeseball and pump up the spooky music or prepare the audience for more than what they bargained for. The legend of the monster, the backstory of the slasher, the warning to the meddling teenagers, these are all elements of atmosphere designed for one thing: to make you squirm before the real scares begin.

****

American Werewolf in London (1981) – Beware the moon

The horror genre is at its most impactful when leaving exposition to a minimum. Prioritizing narrative clarity over effective scare-mongering may ensure a tight narrative that can’t be held up to scrutiny, but it also ensures that the audience knows what to expect, all but draining the movie of tension. In An American Werewolf in London,...

The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
'Cabin in the Woods' Sequel Not Happening Right Now
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
2012's The Cabin in the Woods marked the directorial debut for Drew Goddard, after writing the screenplay for Cloverfield and working on hit shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alias and Lost. The film, which the director co-wrote with Joss Whedon, wasn't a monstrous success at the box office, taking in $66.4 million worldwide, but it was beloved by genre fans around the world. While doing press for The Martian, which Drew Goddard adapted from Andy Weir, the filmmaker was asked if there was any possibility of a sequel to The Cabin in the Woods happening. As it turns out, Lionsgate does want a sequel, although Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon aren't sure they want to make it.

"They want to make one. I think Joss... we talked about it. I think we just don't want to, we don't want to f--k it up. I mean, I think, I've always felt this way.

Blu-ray: Cabin in the Woods – An Audacious Tale of Organized, Chaotic Horror
To say The Cabin in the Woods isn’t your typical horror story would be an understatement. In Cabin, writers Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard flip the horror genre on its back and inject it with dark humor and a healthy dose of science fiction. Much like the Expendables 2, this movie is designed for genre lovers. If you know the rules and the cliché archetypes – and more importantly enjoy them – then, you will be able to savor this audacious tale of organized, chaotic horror.

Cabin also has a touch of mystery and suspense in the tale, which is cleverly revealed with each dismembered morsel. There are a few oddball moments and some sketchy CG effects in the end, but it never takes away from the film. The Blu-ray release gives viewers thorough behind-the-scenes tour of Goddard and Whedon’s genre bending blood fest.

Cabin in the Woods begins by introducing...
