One of Disney's most successful sitcoms starring Selena Gomez received a popular reboot last year, and news about season 2 makes the show's return more exciting than ever. Wizards Beyond Waverly Place marked the return of the Russo family after being off-screen for nearly a decade, with the project managing to find plenty of success despite it being a huge gamble.
Wizards of Waverly Place was one of the Disney Channel's biggest shows back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but with the sitcom being away for so long, it was a huge risk to bring it back. Still, despite there being some major missing characters in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season 1, the reboot performed incredibly well.
Its 89% Rotten Tomatoes score highlighted how well-received the show was, making the latest updates especially encouraging. According to Deadline, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season 2 will return on September 12 with two new episodes on cable,...

Is Wizards Beyond Waverly Place coming back for season 2?(Photo Credit –Disney+)
That’s right, Disney+ and the Disney Channel have officially renewed the hit Wizards of Waverly Place spinoff for a second season, and fans are beyond excited (pun totally intended).
The sequel series follows an all-grown-up Justin Russo (David Henrie) as he steps into the mentor role, training a young wizard named Bille (Janice LeAnn Brown). But let’s be real, what fans really lost their minds over was the return of Selena Gomez as Alex Russo in season 1! With familiar faces like Maria Canals-Barrera and David DeLuise popping in as well, the nostalgia is strong with this one.
So, what’s in store for season 2? More magic? More mayhem? More surprise cameos? Here’s everything we know so far about the next spellbinding chapter of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place!

"She's not Italian, okay, she doesn't want children, and now she insults my cooking?!" Uh oh, danger. An official trailer has debuted for an indie comedy called The Italians, the latest creation from the filmmaker Michelle Danner - who also stars in this as Angelina. The film originally premiered last year at the LA Italia Festival and it will be out on VOD to watch in April this spring. A traditional Italian-American family meets their sons new girlfriend, who is Not Italian. Plenty of antics and arguments and comedy ensue. Danner adds this intro: "This is a deeply touching story about loving family, forgiving family and irresistible Italian food." Grande! The indie comedy stars Abigail Breslin, along with Matthew Daddario, Lainie Kazan, Olivia Luccardi, David DeLuise, Perrey Reeves, Rob Estes, Michelle Danner, Luca Riemma, and Roger Gershman. This seems amusing and especially delicious - all this amazing Italian food being served throughout the film.

"Be careful not to mess with the balance of things" says the strangely wise Wizards of Waverly Place intro, making for one of Disney Channel's best theme songs. Following wizards-in-training and siblings Alex (Selena Gomez), Justin (David Henrie), and Max (Jake T. Austin), Wizards of Waverly Place is punchy and delightfully weird. Disney Channel sampled sci-fi and fantasy a few more times with future examples of their characteristic live-action sitcoms, but they all decidedly lack the charm and emotional strength of the story of the Russo family.
Released in 2007, Wizards of Waverly Place is a comedy fantasy series created by Todd J. Greenwald for the Disney Channel. The series follows a trio of teenage siblings living in a magical portion of New York City as they train to harness their family's magical legacy while trying to blend in with everyday people.
Cast David DeLuise, Maria Canals-Barrera, David Henrie, Jake T.

Wizards of Waverly Place puts the spotlight on the Russo family, a complex group of Wizards and mortals who have a unique relationship with magic compared to most other wizards and witches. The show first began airing on the Disney Channel in 2007, and it saw the main character, Alex Russo, played by Selen Gomez grow from a young and inexperienced witch into a powerful and knowledgeable hero who was able to win the right to keep her powers.
Within the world of magic set up in the show, children and teenagers are able to wield magic when they are young, but once they reach maturity, the family magic needs to be granted to just one child in order to make them a full witch or wizard. Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is the much-anticipated sequel to Disney Channel's hit show Wizards of Waverly Place, which launched the careers of Selena Gomez and Jake T. Austin, who play two of the Russo siblings opposite David Henrie. Austin's character, Max Russo, was the mischievous youngest sibling of the bunch, and the sibling who ultimately lost his powers in the family wizard competition at the original show's conclusion, instead inheriting the family business. Now, Alex is a member of the Wizard World Tribunal, and Justin is a middle school vice principal, husband, and father of two on Staten Island, New York.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place carries on the story of the Russo family years after the classic Disney Channel series and in certain ways, repeats it. Years have passed since siblings Alex (Selena Gomez), Justin (David Henrie), and Max (Jake T. Austin) competed in the Wizard Competition, with Justin now living a quiet life with his non-magical family. That is until Alex shows up with a young wizard who is as chaotic as she once was and asks her brother to take the girl in and train her.

Everything is not what it seems — even when it comes to what the original “Wizards of Waverly Place” characters are up to in the sequel series. Some of those updates are fairly surprising.
“Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” which premiered on Disney Channel on Tuesday night and will be streaming its first nine episodes on Disney+ come Wednesday, centers on a now-adult Justin Russo (David Henrie), who’s living a non-magical life — well, sort of, more on that momentarily — with his wife and kids.
When Alex (Selena Gomez) shows up with a new young wizard who needs help, Justin has a choice to make in order to help safeguard the entire wizarding world.
Yes, we see Justin and his sister reunited in the premiere episode, and their futures might just be exactly what you predicted — or not.

The Russo family returned to Disney Channel on Tuesday, and it’s fair to say that things have never been less what they seem.
Picking up where Wizards of Waverly Place left off more than a decade ago, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place reintroduces fans to former teen wizard phenom Justin Russo (played by David Henrie), now a married father of two living on Staten Island. We learn in the premiere that he has been living a mortal, magic-free existence ever since he was fired as the youngest headmaster of WizTech over something referred to as “the unicorn incident.”

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is the sequel to the hugely popular Disney series, and here’s the trailer for the new series.
Wizards Of Waverly Place was among a collection of Disney shows, like Hannah Montana and Sonny With A Chance, that catapulted their female lead to superstardom.
Selena Gomez became a pop star alongside her Disney career, then transitioned into equally popular roles as an adult – Only Murders In The Building, in which she stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short, has been renewed for a fifth series.
Created by Todd J Greenwald, Wizards followed Gomez as Alex Russo, the middle child in a family that also included older brother Justin, played by David Henrie, and Max, played by Jake T. Austin. David DeLuise and Maria Canals-Baria played parents Jerry and Theresa. The overarching plot saw the children compete between themselves in a competition to determine which of them would keep their powers.

Wizards Of Waverly Place Star Reunites With Alex Russo's Werewolf Boyfriend On Set Of Sequel Filming
David Henrie and Gregg Sulkin reunite on the set of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. Premiering on the Disney Channel in 2007, Wizards of Waverly Place starred Selena Gomez as Alex, Henrie as Justin, and Jake T. Austin as Max, three magical siblings of the Russo family who compete to be the next family wizard. The world of the show is set to return with sequel series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, which sees Justin embrace the non-wizarding life as father to Milo (Max Matenko) before Alex introduces him to Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), a wizard who seeks to be Justin's apprentice.
Henrie now takes to Instagram to share a new photo from the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place set in which he poses with Sulkin, who memorably played Mason Greybeck in Wizards of Waverly Place. Greybeck appeared in a number of episodes of the original Disney Channel show, serving primarily as Alex's boyfriend.
