Every week, a bevy of new releases (independent or otherwise), open in theaters. That’s why we created the Weekly Film Guide, filled with basic plot, personnel and cinema information for all of this week’s fresh offerings.

For August, we’ve also put together a list for the entire month. We’ve included this week’s list below, complete with information on screening locations for films in limited release.

Well, here we are in the closing weeks of summer movie season. It’s the last gasp for big-budget blockbusters before the coming fall festival season, but there are plenty of indie alternatives for whatever your tastes may be. Below, you’ll see every planned theatrical release for the month of August, separated out into films with wide runs and limited ones. (Synopses are provided by festivals and distributors.)

Each week, we’ll give you an update with screening locations for these various titles. In the meantime, be sure to check our calendar page, where we’ll update releases for the rest of the year. Happy watching!

Recently, Fox released the new,official synopsis/spoilers for their upcoming "Bones" episode 8 of season 11. The episode is entitled, "High Treason in the Holiday Season," and it turns out that we're going to see some pretty interesting stuff go down as the homicide of a high-powered attorney becomes the main focus of the Jeffersonian team, and more. In the new, 8th episode press release: The Team Investigates The Murder Of A High-powered Journalist On An All-new "Bones" Thursday, November 19, On Fox. Press release number 2: The team will investigate the high-stakes murder of a political journalist who was found dead after recently publishing an article exposing corruption in the Nsa. Due to the nature of the investigation, Hodgins' paranoia will take over as the team realizes their every move is being watched. In the meantime, Brennan will secretly try to plan a surprise for Booth, and the whole team will celebrate Thanksgiving together.

Recently, CBS delivered the new,official synopsis/spoilers for their upcoming "The Big Bang Theory" episode 19 of season 8. The episode is entitled, "The Skywalker Incursion," and it turns out that we're going to see a celebrity's location become too much of a temptation for Sheldon and Leonard to pass up on, and more. In the new, 19th episode press release: Sheldon And Leonard Try To Sneak On To George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch. Press release number 2: When Leonard and Sheldon are invited to speak at Uc Berkeley, they are going to take a detour to try to meet an idol. This year’s celebrity honorees are Patrick Dempsey, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jennifer Hudson, LL Cool J and Kelly Osbourne, with five inspiring young people also being heralded for spearheading initiatives to build stronger societies.

VH1′s Do Something! Awards are coming back! This year’s ceremony will honor celebrities who’ve given back to their communities, as well as highlight youth who are working hard to contribute to a better society.

VH1 is noting worthy causes championed by Patrick Dempsey, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jennifer Hudson, LL Cool J, and Kelly Osbourne, along with five young people involved in grassroots campaigns that are changing the world. The young finalists will receive grants to support their causes.

Right now is not a bad time for admirers of Robert Bresson. A traveling retrospective has made its way across numerous cities, and people who'd never gotten a chance to glimpse Four Nights of a Dreamer (1971) now get to watch it on the big screen in a proper print. Furthermore, the critical and cinephilic culture surrounding Bresson's work is probably more alive now than it has been in a long time. Perhaps nowhere is this more evident than the wider interest in (and affection for) the director's late color films, earlier misunderstood and dismissed in some quarters as odd aberrations which lacked the spiritual clarity or asceticism of the black-and-white work. It's for this reason that film culture can welcome a second, revised edition of James Quandt's crucial anthology, Robert Bresson.

Huh. Cartoon Network will launch its first awards show, "The Hall of Game Awards," and has picked Michael Dempsey and Steve Mayer as head producers. The show will honor sports stars and highlights of the year. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Katy Perry and Akon will perform as musical guests on The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on Nov. 30. The runway will feature a $2 million bombshell fantasy bra that Perry will covet.

Cartoon Network has tapped veterans Michael Dempsey and Steve Mayer to lead production of its first awards show, "The Hall of Game Awards."

The show, which lets viewers vote for their favorite sports stars and sports moments of the year, is produced in association with Img Media.

Dempsey's producing credits include the "VH1 Big Awards" and the 2004 and 2005 "MTV Video Music Awards." Mayer is an Emmy-winning producer with credits including as NBC's "Christmas at Rockefeller Center."

"The Cartoon Network audience expects a dynamic and unique awards-show experience," said Rob Sorcher, chief content officer at Cartoon Network. "Michael and Steve bring the right mix of creativity, expertise and sense of humor to the Hall of Game Awards."

The awards premiere in early 2011.
