To celebrate their first day on the set of the Practical Magic sequel, Nicole Kidman shared a heartfelt video on Instagram of herself and Sandra Bullock shooting for the film.

Practical Magic 2 has added Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing to its ensemble.

Wiest is reprising her role as Aunt Jet, while Channing reprises Aunt Franny, who play the witches that raised the Owens sisters, Sally (played by Sandra Bullock) and Gillian (played by Nicole Kidman) and taught them magic.

Warner Bros. announced on social media the sequel’s release date and that Bullock and Kidman were officially returning in May, following the reports in June 2024 that the stars were in talks to return. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are returning as witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens in Practical Magic 2, and the witchy sisters have summoned the official release date for the sequel.

It was recently reported that Bird Box director Susanne Bier was in talks to helm Practical Magic 2. In the 1998 film, based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel, “Two witch sisters (Bullock and Kidman), raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town, face closed-minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them ever finding lasting love.”

No plot details have been revealed for Practical Magic 2 as of yet, but the sequel is reportedly based on a later installment in Hoffman’s Practical Magic book series.

Warner Bros. took to social media Tuesday to announce that director Susanne Bier’s forthcoming feature Practical Magic 2 is set to hit theaters Sept. 18, 2026. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are returning from the original that was released Oct. 16, 1998.

Speaking with Variety at Time's Women of the Year event in Los Angeles, Kidman was careful not to reveal too much about the highly-anticipated sequel, saying only that development on Practical Magic 2 was "movie ahead rapidly." After Variety pushed for more information, such as if Kidman had seen a script, the actor playfully remarked, "I'm not answering anymore. You can ask Sandy [Bullock]." Kidman then confirmed that "we're not doing it yet," meaning that Practical Magic 2 hasn't started production, as it "needs a little magic" still before filming can begin.
