Winona Ryder recently told Elle UK that she was warned against starring in “Heathers” as a teen actor. Her team told her she would “never work again” if she signed on to play Veronica Sawyers in the 1988 dark comedy, which centers on a high school clique upended by a new student who starts murdering his classmates. Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty co-star in the cult classic.
“I did lose a job,” Ryder told the publication, noting that her team was technically right about “Heathers” potentially having a negative impact on her career. Although she was hesitant to name the project, Ryder eventually revealed she was dropped from the 1990 crime comedy “The Freshman.” It was a big deal considering Marlon Brando was the star.
“They thought it was making fun of teen suicide,” Ryder said of “The Freshman” team. “They were deeply offended and, yeah, they revoked the offer… I’m like,...

Winona Ryder opted to stand by her iconic dark comedy “Heathers,” and it ultimately cost her a gig starring alongside Matthew Broderick and Marlon Brando. Ryder has long been open that she decided to star in the 1989 dark comedy “Heathers” against warnings from her agents at the time. Now, Ryder is telling Elle UK that starring in the cult classic directly led her to losing out on a role in “The Freshman” with Brando.
Ryder recalled how she was told she would “never work again” if she played teen sociopath Veronica Sawyers in “Heathers,” adding that she did in fact “lose a job” because of the film. Ryder was already cast in “The Freshman” before “Heathers” was released; however, after the “Freshman” studio executives saw controversial “Heathers,” she said her offer was rescinded.

Last year, it was officially announced that Warner Bros. is moving forward with a sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprising the roles of sister witches Sally and Gillian Owens. Producer Denise Di Novi has promised that the sequel, which is aiming for a September 18, 2026 theatrical release, will honor the original and not attempt to reinvent the wheel – but that doesn’t mean they’re bringing all of the original cast members back. Evan Rachel Wood, who played Sally’s daughter Kylie in the original film, has confirmed that she will not be back for the sequel. But her absence from the film was not her choice.
The Hollywood Reporter caught Wood’s confirmation on her Instagram Stories. She wrote, “I am getting asked about this a lot, so l’ll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and...

"Mad Max: Fury Road" is one of the true miracles of filmmaking of the 21st century, and it's mind boggling to imagine how George Miller pulled off such a visual feast in an era where so much blockbuster filmmaking lacks the energy that made "Fury Road" such a totemic film of this era. Director Steven Soderbergh said it best when he said, "I don't understand how they're not still shooting that film, and I don't understand how hundreds of people aren't dead."
To make sure hundreds of people didn't die was Miller's biggest anxiety when making the film, but if you look behind the scenes, you'll find that the most chaotic part of the movie wasn't the Doofwarrior or the polecats, but the explosive on set feud between actors Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.

Joey King’s been quietly rewriting her story since The Kissing Booth happened in 2018, and now, it’s paying off. While the 2019 drama The Act earned her critical respect with an 88% rating, it’s that very performance that’s catching fresh attention in 2025. Word is, Sandra Bullock sees that Emmy-nominated turn as reason enough to bring King into Practical Magic 2.
This feels like a full-circle moment — King moving from guilty-pleasure rom-coms to dark, mystical, witchy territory. And with Bullock reportedly championing her casting, one can say that The Act kind of absolved her past, providing a boost to her career.

This feels like a full-circle moment — King moving from guilty-pleasure rom-coms to dark, mystical, witchy territory. And with Bullock reportedly championing her casting, one can say that The Act kind of absolved her past, providing a boost to her career.

Exclusive: Mikki Daughtry & Tobias Iaconis (Five Feet Apart) have been set as the writers for A Walk to Remember, Monarch Media’s Nicholas Sparks reboot on which we were first to report in February.
A seminal coming-of-age romance, published in 1999, A Walk to Remember follows a rebellious high school senior who falls for a quiet, faith-driven girl after being forced to participate in a school play, discovering the transformative power of love, forgiveness and the beauty of living each day with purpose.
Warner Bros previously adapted the book in 2002, with leads Shane West and Mandy Moore breaking out off of their lead performances. The Adam Shankman pic remains one of the most popular in the modern rom-com canon, even if it made less than $48 million in theaters.

Last year, it was officially announced that Warner Bros. is moving forward with a sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprising the roles of sister witches Sally and Gillian Owens. Producer Denise Di Novi has promised that the sequel, which is aiming for a September 18, 2026 theatrical release, will honor the original and not attempt to reinvent the wheel – and now, Variety reports that the first cast member other than Bullock and Kidman has just signed on. Joey King (The Kissing Booth) has been cast in Practical Magic 2 as the daughter of Bullock’s character.

Joey King is in negotiations to star alongside Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic 2, Warner Bros.’s Pictures sequel to the 1998 movie.
Susanne Bier, who directed Bullock in the post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box and Kidman in the sordid Netflix mini-series The Perfect Couple, is on board to helm the feature that has a Sept. 18, 2026 release date.
Bullock and Kidman are reprising their roles as witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who in the original movie fight a family curse that dispatches the men with whom they fall in love. That movie was based on the novel by Alice Hoffman and juggled themes and ideas of sisterhood, female empowerment, domestic abuse, with some comedy and supernatural fun thrown in.

One can only marvel at Nicole Kidman’s astuteness. The actress and producer wanted to know where I was scooting off to after the Kering/Festival de Cannes Women in Motion dinner Sunday night. When I started to tell her about the afterparty for Akinola Davies Jr’s My Father’s Shadow, her eyes lit up.
“That’s one of the hits of the festival, right? First-time director, shot in Nigeria, right?”
Kidman then proceeded to quiz me about the movie and the filmmaker siblings Akinola and Wale Davies, who penned the script together.
She would’ve loved the party on the beach thrown jointly for My Father’s Shadow and Harry Lighton’s biker romance Pillion.
During his presentation to Kidman, Cannes fest chief Thierry Frémaux hailed her as the “Barefoot Queen of Cannes” because of her propensity to whip off her heels whenever possible. “Yeah, but you’re not allowed to do that now,...

Practical Magic 2, the sequel to the 1998 movie, will arrive on Sept. 18, 2026. As previously reported, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock will reprise their roles as Gillian and Sally Owens, a pair of sisters with unintentionally fatal attractions to men. The original movie follows their quest to rid themselves of the unfortunate curse, which includes bringing back an abusive ex and downing cocktails. Though the original film struggled commercially and critically, both actresses told Rolling Stone they’re proud of the film in a 2024 oral history of the beloved “midnight margaritas” scene.

Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Lionsgate has landed Renegotiate, a high-concept action-thriller spec by Mark Townend, sources tell us.
The film centers on a troubled FBI crisis negotiator who finds himself stuck in a time loop, re-living the events of a bombing and struggling to stop it before time runs out. Think Source Code meets Phone Booth. Ric Roman Waugh and Brendon Boyea will produce for CineMachine, alongside Brian Kavanagh Jones and Fred Berger for Range, with Aj Bourscheid executive producing.
Townend’s deal is remarkable, we’re told, for a writer with no produced credits, particularly given that the script was taken out without any talent attachments. Sources described the outcome as a three-way bidding war that resulted in a mid-six-figure guaranteed fee against a low-seven-figure purchase/bonus. The script was taken out on the first Monday of April, and by Friday of that week, 20 premium production companies were chasing aggressively.

Practical Magic 2 is in the works at Warner Bros. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock will reprise their roles from the original 1998 movie for the live-action follow-up.
Speaking with Variety at Time's Women of the Year event in Los Angeles, Kidman was careful not to reveal too much about the highly-anticipated sequel, saying only that development on Practical Magic 2 was "movie ahead rapidly." Deadline reports that Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy-winning director Susanne Bier has been tapped to direct the sequel to the beloved 1998 witchy rom-com Practical Magic. Deadline reports that Susanne Bier is in talks to direct Practical Magic 2 for Warner Bros. The original film starred Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as two witch sisters who are raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town where they are faced with closed-minded prejudice and a curse that threatens to prevent them from ever finding lasting love.
Kidman and Bullock will be reprising their roles of Gillian and Sally Owens, respectively. Both actresses have already worked with Bier. She directed Bullock on Netflix’s Bird Box and worked with Kidman on HBO’s The Undoing and Netflix’s The Perfect Couple.
