‘Fat Ham’ Actor Calvin Leon Smith To Join New Cast Of Broadway’s ‘Cabaret At The Kit Kat Club’

Exclusive: Calvin Leon Smith, who appeared in the Tony-nominated comedy Fat Ham, will return to Broadway this fall when he takes over the role of Cabaret‘s Clifford Bradshaw from Ato Blankson-Wood.

Smith will be part of a replacement cast that includes Adam Lambert as Emcee and Auli’i Cravalho as Sally Bowles. Original cast members Eddie Redmayne, Gayle Rankin and Blankson-Wood end their limited engagements Sunday, September 14, with the new cast members beginning performances on Monday, September 16.

Smith’s casting was announced today by producers Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, Underbelly, Gavin Kalin Productions, Hunter Arnold, Smith & Brant Theatricals, and Wessex Grove.

Smith most recently appeared in James Ijames’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play Fat Ham in the role of Larry, a Marine with a secret. Smith’s other theater credits include roles in regional and Off Broadway productions, including The Animal Kingdom , Open Throat, and Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Sweat.

Auli’i Cravalho & Adam Lambert Set To Make Broadway Debuts As ‘Cabaret’ Leads

The Kit-Kat Club is getting some new blood.

Queen singer and American Idol alum Adam Lambert and Moana and The Power star Auli’i Cravalho will step in the respective roles of Emcee and Sally Bowles in Broadway’s Cabaret revival on September 16. Their limited engagement runs through March 30.

Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin will give their final performances as Emcee and Bowles in the Tony-nominated Kander-and-Ebb musical two nights earlier.

“Growing up on the musical theater stage, it was always a childhood dream to perform on Broadway,” Lambert said in a statement. “With this production of Cabaret, it finally felt like the right time to accept an invitation to make my debut. The themes of this show have always resonated with me and given the current sociopolitical climate the world is in, feel eerily timely.”

As Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin shift to pre-planned seven-performance weeks for Broadway’s Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, producers have announced the summer schedule for the alternate performers playing the Emcee and Sally Bowles.

The musical revival will continue playing the standard eight performances per week. The summer schedule and cast line-up for the show at the August Wilson Theatre through the end of August is as follows:

Robert Cuccioli, Natascia Diaz & Drew Sarich to Lead Chess Benefit Concert for The Actor's Fund, July 30
Tony Award-nominee Robert Cuccioli Jekyll amp Hyde, Les Misrables, Helen Hayes Award-winner Natascia Diaz Man of La Mancha, Seussical, The Capeman, Carnival and Drew Sarich Les Misrables, Lestat, starring in the upcoming Broadway-bound production of Rocky the Musical in Europe will star in the July 30th 730pm benefit concert of the Benny Andersson, Tim Rice and Bjorn Ulvaeus musical Chess for The Actors Fund. This special Chess In Concept Concert will take place at Laguardia Arts at Lincoln Center 100 Amsterdam Avenue. This stripped down all through-sung concert-version will focus on the music, lyrics and characters, emulating the original 1984 concept album and incorporating virtually all of the original London score.

Jessica-Snow Wilson Joins Glimpses Of The Moon at the Algonquin
Sharon Carr Associates, Ltd announced today the addition of Jessica-Snow Wilson to the cast of Glimpses Of The Moon. Wilson will be replacing Autumn Hurlbert in the leading role of Susy. Glimpses Of The Moon premiered exactly one year ago at the Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel to rave reviews and quickly sold out its limited run. The show returned this fall with an expanded production and received more enthusiastic reviews. The run has now been extended through the end of March, with performances every Monday night. Starting in February, in partnership with the Algonquin Hotel, the production is adding alternating Thursday lunch matinees.
