"Andor" might be officially over, but the reactions, revelations, and discussions surrounding the most acclaimed live-action "Star Wars" series ever certainly aren't going anywhere anytime soon. After spending years getting to know Diego Luna's Cassian Andor with far more subtlety and nuance than "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" ever had time for, we now know exactly what made him into the hardened Rebel operative we saw in the 2016 movie. Yet, even this sprawling, 12-episode final season had quite a few surprises up its sleeve -- not all of which ultimately made the final cut.
Creator and writer Tony Gilroy has been making the press rounds lately (including a recent conversation with /Film's very own Ben Pearson), and in one particular interview, he opened up about his original plans for a major original trilogy cameo that was simply not to be. The timeline of "Andor" allowed quite a few...

Since Andor Season 2 is split into groups of three episodes, each taking place one year after the last, viewers see the characters in several different modes and periods of their lives. In particular, Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) plays quite a spectrum of emotions. In the first arc of the season, written by Andor creator Tony Gilroy, viewers see her navigate her daughter’s wedding. It involves coaching her young daughter Leida (Bronte Carmichael) through bridal feelings and making covert political decisions with her fellow rebel leader Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård).
“It's such an extraordinary thing that Tony and the writers did, to allow for such an arc this season starting with that wedding,” O’Reilly tells Gold Derby. “There was an exploration of politics within the family home in Season 1, especially with her husband, so it's personal and political all at once, but the fact that the writers gave time to complex,...

This post contains spoilers for "Andor."
The latest season of "Andor" has been steadily gaining momentum, with its first six episodes already laying a sturdy foundation for the inevitable. It is certainly not easy to sustain tension when the end of an arc is a foregone conclusion, which is very much the case with Cassian (Diego Luna), who dies a martyr in "Rogue One." Although Cassian's fate is written in stone, we still care deeply about his evolving ethics in "Andor" and how he will arrive at his preordained future. Moreover, "Andor" has never shied away from the visceral discomfort of being part of the rebel cause, which comes with its own set of moral conundrums that demand constant and unflinching sacrifice. As a result, the Rebellion means something different for everyone, even if the end goal is to topple the Empire for good.

“Star Wars” fans got two surprises Tuesday night. The first was when Senator Bail Organa, the adoptive father of Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), appeared in “Andor” Season 2, Episode 6, and the second was when they discovered that the character was being portrayed this time by Benjamin Bratt, rather than Jimmy Smits.
Smits portrayed Bail in every one of the character’s previous live-action appearances. He made his debut as the character in 2002’s “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” and subsequently reprised the role in 2005’s “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith,” 2016’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and even 2022’s “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
The latest “Andor” episode, titled “What a Festive Evening,” marks the first time Bail has been portrayed by a different actor in a live-action film or TV show.
According to “Andor” creator Tony Gilroy, the recasting decision came down to good old-fashioned scheduling conflicts.

Disney is plotting a new course for Star Wars, and while some elements of the nine-movie Skywalker Saga will surely continue in the ‘New Jedi’ trilogy that’s potentially being headed up by Daisy Ridley’s Rey, the franchise is spinning off in all sorts of exciting directions. The Mandalorian & Grogu will take the hit Disney+ series to the big screen, Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter looks like it’s taking flight, and Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy recently spoke about a horror hybrid that could give Alien a run for its money.
Others haven’t been as lucky, with the likes of The Acolyte season 2 and the idea that MCU overlord Kevin Feige would helm his own Star Wars movie being thrown in the trash compactor. There are fears that some, including the Lando Calrissian prequel and Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, will never see the light of day, but...

Andor star Genevieve O’Reilly finally has the answer to a question she’s been asking herself since she started playing Mon Mothma as of 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
When O’Reilly first revisited Caroline Blakiston’s debut as the former Chandrilan Senator turned Rebel Alliance leader in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), she sensed a particular anguish in Blakiston’s Mon Mothma that she’s been trying to get to the bottom of across her various other galactic appearances in The Clone Wars, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and now, Andor. In the latter case, creator Tony Gilroy took the canonical destinations she already had in mind and muddied Andor‘s two-season journey along the way, resulting in the clarity she’s long been pursuing.
“It has been at the heart of my curiosity all the way through [Andor]. With...

Everyone should have expected a big, climactic finish to "Andor" season 2, episode 3. Season 1 made a trend of the multi-episode arc, each one delivering a major climax at the end: the showdown with corporate security on Ferrix, the Imperial payroll heist on Adhani, the prison break at Narkina 5, and the memorial service turned rebel uprising back on Ferrix. Since season 2 is taking year-long time jumps between each group of three episodes, it was natural that the trend would continue, and the first arc of "Andor" season 2 ends in a maelstrom of a montage with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) at its center.
The main action of the episode takes place far, far away from Chandrila, where Mon has been busy the whole arc hosting the wedding festivities of her daughter Leida (Bronte Carmichael). Instead, the last 10 minutes or so mainly focus on Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) as he races back to the...

I’ve never sat down to watch a Star Wars property and thought to myself, “what this franchise needs is more intimate partner violence, child marriage, and attempted sexual assault.” All of that is in the Disney+ show, Andor season 2.
Somehow, that’s just skimming the surface of how lazy and backward the entire season is. For a show that’s releasing in the year 2025, the overarching sentiment is of a bygone era—one that even manages to outmatch some of the problematic elements of the original Star Wars trilogy.
Like its predecessor, Andor season 2 is broken up into four chapters of three episodes each. However, this time around, there’s a time jump between each chapter as the show attempts to lead us straight to the start of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In its haste to get there, unfortunately, the story, the characters, and especially Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) himself,...

The drought is over. The skies have opened up and sent bountiful rain in answer to our prayers. By the skies, of course, I mean Lucasfilm and Disney, and by rain, I mean a proper, official trailer for "Andor" season 2. Today is a good day.
More a teaser than a narrative trailer, the 90-second montage features a range of action set pieces, tons of character appearances, a Wachowski-esque dance party, numerous disguises for the eponymous Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), and big appearances from "Rogue One" characters like K-2So, Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), and of course, Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker). There are plenty of teases and a lot of explosions, suggesting that this season's 12 episodes may be even more action-packed than season 1.
In the interest of fandom and wild speculation, let's go through some of the more curious moments in the trailer and see what they may tell us about...

The Crown season 5, episode 6, "Ipatiev House", is another Philip-centric episode in the series, though Queen Elizabeth has plenty to contend with regarding her family's past and her own troubles in the present. The Crown season 5 sees a new actress as Queen Elizabeth as the timeline moves into the 1990s. This is a slightly different Queen Elizabeth than viewers were used to seeing. She's wiser and stronger, but at the same time, increasingly nostalgic and perhaps more human as she looks back on her life and the history of her family, warts and all.
As season 5 progresses, The Crown's question of where the Monarchy fits in the modern world becomes even more urgent. In the previous episode, The Crown season 5, episode 5, "The Way Ahead", Elizabeth (Imelda Staunton) has just finished the unpleasant business of formalizing Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Charles' separation. In the next episode, it's Elizabeth and Prince Philip...

Curated by the IndieWire Crafts team, Craft Considerations is a platform for filmmakers to talk about recent work we believe is worthy of awards consideration. In partnership with Netflix, for this edition, we look at how the crafts team behind “The Crown” evolved its visual language and storytelling for Season 5.
From the series’ inception, “The Crown” has been structured to evolve as the story of Queen Elizabeth’s reign unfolded. The most notable change, of course, has been the rotating cast, with first Claire Foy, then Olivia Coleman, and finally Imelda Staunton brought in to play the British monarch who stoically bore witness to seven decades of national crises. But the team behind the camera has also kept up with the decades, making adjustments that give Season 5 a weight and poignancy: this is the period where everything’s going wrong with Diana (Elizabeth Debicki), but we know just how much further wrong it will go.

This post contains spoilers for "Andor" episode 11.
When it was first revealed that 2015's long-awaited "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" would center on a "not the Galactic Empire" in the form of the First Order, it was hard not to roll one's eyes at the idea. That feeling only intensified when it came to light that the First Order would have its own Death Star-style superweapon in the form of Starkiller Base. Was this really the best premise the movie's creatives could come up with? The Empire all over again, only bigger and more extreme? As though the generation of civilians who grew up hearing stories about Emperor Palpatine's terrible regime would somehow get it in their heads that the real problem with the Empire was that it didn't go far enough. Talk about hack writing, eh?
"Lord, what fools these mortals be," as Puck puts it in William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The last three episodes of “Andor” featured a prison without bars, but part of both the thrill and the pathos of the latest “Star Wars” series is that Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) has felt like a captive of the Empire the entire time. Everyone in “Andor” is trapped, often visually through the sculpted, strong lines of Luke Hull’s incredible production design, and always through the eye of the camera, helmed in the first three episodes and Episodes 8 through 10 by director Toby Haynes.

Major spoilers ahead for "Andor" episode 10.
"Andor" hit us with a whopper of an episode this week. From an amazing prison break to a speech from Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) detailing the bad things that often must be done for good outcomes, it absolutely restored my faith in the "Star Wars" franchise. It was a wild ride, and with only two more episodes this season, I'm bracing myself for a powerful cliffhanger. There was one other moment that stood out this week, and it has something in common with another juggernaut of a series, "House of the Dragon."
This week Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) was faced with a difficult proposal. Literally. This Senator who is trying to change things from within the system as opposed to some of the other rebels has had to meet with someone distasteful to her when her access to her money -- that she's using...

Though famously ambivalent about film adaptations of his work — to the degree of never watching some — Alan Moore has written a screen original in “The Show,” perhaps attracted to a more hands-on approach to the medium now that he’s officially retired from comics. This playfully wayward mystery set in his native Northampton turns that burg into a kind of midlands Gotham, where not-quite-superheroic intrigue unfolds as convolutedly as possible. Fun if perhaps a little too tongue-in-cheek for its own good, the results will no doubt appeal most to Moore fans who’ll revel in his Byzantine plotting, noirish tropes and other signature elements. Fathom Events is providing them one-night U.S. theatrical access this Thursday, Aug. 26; release in other formats is as yet unannounced.
“The Show” is directed by Mitch Jenkins, a photographer who’s collaborated with the “Watchmen” scribe for 12 years, including on several shorts that introduced some of its characters and ideas.

"We've saved you the best seat in the house..." Shout Factory has released a new official US trailer for the strange, eccentric, indie film titled The Show, directed by filmmaker Mitch Jenkins. This premiered at the Sitges Film Festival last year, and we featured an early teaser trailer back then. A man's search for a stolen artifact leads him to the haunted town ("Northampton - a strange and haunted town in the heart of England as dangerous as he is") filled with Voodoo gangsters, masked adventurers, Depression-era private eyes and violent chiaroscuro women. From the mind of writer Alan Moore comes a new feature film starring Tom Burke (seen in The Souvenir), Siobhan Hewlett, Alan Moore (oh yes), Ellie Bamber, Darrell D'Silva, Richard Dillane, Christopher Fairbank, and Sheila Atim. Welcome to The Show. I'm still not sure what to make of it, and this new trailer doesn't really help much.

Kurt Wallander is set to take on more cases after European drama Young Wallander was renewed at Netflix for a second season.
The streamer launched the first season of the series, produced by Banijay-backed Yellow Bird UK and based on Henning Mankell’s novels, in September.
Swedish actor Adam Pålsson stars as the eponymous detective with Argo’s Richard Dillane and Black Mirror’s previously Leanne Best also starring. Pålsson takes on the mantle of Wallander after he was played by Kenneth Branagh in a BBC adaptation of Mankell’s books.
The show is a modern reimagining of the detective story with Kurt Wallander navigating the increasingly violent environment of present-day Sweden. In the first season, after he was unable to save a teenager from a gruesome attack, Wallander had to learn to cope with his guilt in order to solve the crime.

They say you know you’re getting old when policemen start getting younger. By shaving decades off grizzled veteran Inspector Wallander, Netflix’s latest will age us all. This six-part crime drama transforms Sweden’s most famous detective into a fresh-faced junior officer. Confusingly for fans of Henning Mankell’s hit crime novels and the previous screen adaptations, Young Wallander is young now. This isn’t a period prequel delving back into the character’s past, but a reimagining taking him back to day one, in the present.
Present-day Malmo isn’t a safe place to be. At least, not for the residents of the Rosengard estate, a place ruled over by drug dealers and gang violence. When we meet Wallander (Adam Pålsson), he’s living a solitary life there in a small apartment and keeping his job quiet from the locals who don’t exactly hold the police in esteem.

Netflix will tell the origin story of Swedish music streaming service Spotify in a yet-to-be-titled series from Young Wallander producer Yellow Bird UK.
The scripted series, which has echoes of Aaron Sorkin’s 2010 movie The Social Network, will be based on the book Spotify Untold, which was published this year by business journalists Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud.
It tells the story of how Swedish tech entrepreneur Daniel Ek and business partner Martin Lorentzon revolutionized the music industry through free and legal music streaming when they launched Spotify in 2006. Netflix said it is a drama about how hard convictions, unrelenting will and big dreams can challenge the status quo.
The untitled series will be directed by Per-Olav Sørensen, while Berna Levin (Young Wallander) is the executive producer. Luke Franklin is the producer.

Alan Moore, the comic book writing legend behind Watchmen, Swamp Thing, V for Vendetta, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, has written a script for a new film called The Show. The photo above is our first look at the movie and it certainly looks interestingly odd.
Moore is known for distancing himself from the movies that are based on his work. He’s also been vocally angry with Hollywood over the years, so it’s weird to see that he’s actually doing a film project of his own now. This is his very first original feature film screenplay that will be produced.
