The original movie was released in 1978. Made for $100,000, it was produced by J. Stephen Peace and John DeBello. DeBello directed the pic based on an original idea by Costa Dillon in a story about mutated killer tomatoes that torment the globe as a group of scientists try to fend them off.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1990)
We’ve been hearing rumblings of a reboot of the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes franchise for a long time. Seventeen years, in fact. That’s when it was announced that the duo behind the internet web series Ask a Ninja would be writing a remake. Now, Deadline has announced that a new entry in the franchise, titled Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, is set to receive a limited theatrical release this Halloween, courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment – and we don’t have to worry about this project falling apart, because it has already wrapped production!

Smell the Tomato: ‘Attack of the Killer Tomatoes’ Brand Revives… With Official Perfumes and Candles?!
Image
Five years after a reboot of the 1970s cult classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was announced – and then never actually made – the brand has returned in an unexpected way.

Yes, the Austin-based movie-inspired fragrance house Xyrena has taken the burgeoning popularity of tomato scents and formulated the first of the ‘killer’ variety.

Developed exclusively in collaboration with the creators of the cult classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! franchise, “this enchanting, garden-fresh fragrance opens with a citrusy top note of sweet tangerine, transitioning seamlessly into vegetal mid notes of green stems, (killer) tomato leaf, and freshly cut grass. The filmic fragrance comes to a dramatic climax with an earthy base of wild fern, wet soil, genuine Indonesian patchouli, and South African Buchu.”

“When people hear ‘tomato fragrance,’ they might initially be taken aback. However, the scent is surprisingly pleasant, fresh, and earthy,” said Killian Wells, Xyrena’s CEO and head perfumer.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1990)
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes Reboot Has Officially Started Production
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1990)
Did you know that an Attack of the Killer Tomatoes reboot was happening? Nobody would blame anyone for letting that little bit of news slip under the radar, as word of the project first surfaced about a year ago during San Diego Comic-Con 2018 when an onslaught of other pop culture news was flooding its way online. But this movie is absolutely happening and director Dustin Ferguson has confirmed that production is officially underway.

It seems fitting that news of the reboot kicking off filming should come as this year's San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing. At the present time, details are virtually non-existent for the project. We can safely assume it will involve large, mutated tomatoes that are terrorizing humanity with a certain brave group of humans banding together to stop them. In any event, we know the movie is filming because Dustin Ferguson took to Facebook to confirm...
