At a time when syndicated science fiction was just Star Trek series, it took some guts on Warner Bros’ part to try something darker and more experimental with J. Michael Straczynski’s Babylon 5, designed to tell a sprawling epic that was more political than it was space opera. The show arrived thirty years ago and was successful enough to spawn spin-off five telefilms and a short-lived spinoff, spanning 1993-2007.
The core of it, the 110 episodes from the original five-season series, have been remastered and collected on a nice Blu-ray box set from Warner Home Entertainment. Also included is the original pilot film.
Set in the 23rd century, the Earth Alliance has found its place among star-faring races, notably the Minbari and the Centauri. Some of these races are fine with humans; others wish them gone. Then there are the Vorlons, and no one knows what they want.

"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" is set to introduce a whole new breed of Robot in Disguise. Instead of cars, trucks, or jets, these Transformers turn into beasts of all shapes and sizes. Known as the Maximals and Predacons, these animal transformers will soon be duking it out alongside their Autobot and Decepticon cousins.
The characters first debuted in the 1996 cartoon "Beast Wars." Despite how different it was from the "Generation One" series, not to mention later versions that take their cues from the original, "Beast Wars" is one of the most beloved "Transformers" iterations. It's usually the watermark that the quality of each subsequent "Transformers" cartoons is measured against.
The first trailer for "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" was released today. Now that the "Transformers" film franchise is finally on solid footing after the pleasant surprise of 2018's "Bumblebee," can "Rise of the Beasts" measure up to the standard of that movie,...

Season 3 of She-Ra feels like a classic eighties five-parter even with it being six episodes.

Do you remember when 80’s cartoons would have five parters? Yeah, they’d open a series with a bang. With serialization rare in those days it was a chance to see a story play out over more than one episode.
If it wasn’t a series premiere they might open a season with a big change of status quo or send the characters into a whole new place. That’s what this season of She-Ra feels like. Okay, it’s actually six episodes instead of five but the feeling is still there. Mid way through marathoning the season I really felt like I was back watching old VHS edits of those five parters.
The whole season is closely connected with episodes weaving directly into one another more than ever before. Nothing is...

Even with a shorter episode count, She-Ra season 2 builds upon the strong first season with relatable characters and a delightful world.
Friendship is a key part of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 2.
Not in the traditional “oh boy we gotta learn to be friends” that a lot of television made with kids in mind falls back on. She-Ra Season 2 takes the idea of friendship and takes it much deeper than most shows out there. It explores both the positive and negative aspects that come with it.
Obviously the slowly breaking friendship between Adore and Catra was a main part of She-Ra Season 1 but now we get to see the fall out of it. This season doesn’t just rehash what we saw before. It develops it. While thankfully not every plot is centered on Adora/Catra’s friendship you can feel its effects throughout. It keeps the show...

We learned new things from the cast and crew about She-Ra Season 2 on Netflix!
With She-Ra Season 2 rapidly approaching, fans are hungry for any information they can get. Thankfully we got the chance to sit down with the cast of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power at Wondercon and they give us some insight into the upcoming season. In attendance were show developer and executive producer Noelle Stevenson, Aimee Carrero (Adora/She-Ra), Aj Michalka (Catra), Lauren Ash (Scorpia), Merit Leighton (Frosta), Karen Fukuhara (Glimmer), and Marcus Scribner (Bow).
Original She-Ra Tribute
The highlight moment of the She-Ra panel was a preview clip of an episode where the characters are all basically playing Dungeons & Dragons. In that scene all the characters are dressed in their 80’s She-Ra costumes and a few of the shots are even animated in a very Filmation style. This was something Noelle Stevenson...

For the cast of Netflix’s She-Ra, the impact of She-Ra’s co-creator still resonates.
When Larry Ditillio passed away on March 16th, 2019, he left behind a huge body of beloved work. Beast Wars: Transformers, Babylon 5, The Real Ghostbusters, and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe are just some of the many series he wrote or story edited in his many years in the business. One of the biggest highlights of his work was co-creating and writing many episodes of the original She-Ra: Princess of Power.
The power and long lasting impact of that work was proven when last year the series was rebooted as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix. While the series changed some elements of Ditillio’s work it was still very much a love letter to his work, with many direct references throughout.

Season two scripts for Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future were commissioned and written but the show was canceled after a 24-episode run in it's first season. This was a starting point for industry stalwarts J. Michael Straczynski (everything), Ken Girotti (Supernatural), Marv Wolfman (you know who this is),Larry Ditillio (Transformers: Beast Wars) and so many others. Well if the show's creator, Garry Goddard (director of Masters of the Universe) has his way, the show will return with an adult orientation. Source: CNN Lost amidst the 80's hits of Thundercats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Transformers was the show Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future, which trust me folks, is the very definition of cult following. The show was groundbreaking, mixing live-action and early CGI animation and bringing a mature storyline sensibility previously not seen in programming intended for kids. "I wanted CGI villains," Goddard...

Slumdog Millionaire continued its winning streak this awards season, with Simon Beaufoy winning the 2009 Writers Guild of America award this evening for adapted screenplay. Dustin Lance Black won the award for best original screenplay for Milk. Slumdog has already won DGA, SAG, PGA and Golden Globe awards, and is a multi-award favorite for the Oscars. Milk has won SAG and PGA awards and is also a strong Oscar contender in multiple categories.
On the television side, awards went to the writers of Mad Men (drama), 30 Rock (comedy), Recount and John Adams in long-form categories, and In Treatment, Breaking Bad, and The Simpsons in various other fields. Controversially, among other awards was one for videogame writing (to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed). Some publishers declined to submit their titles for consideration, viewing the award as primarily an organizing tool for a guild seeking to gain a foothold in a non-unionized sector.

Fox Searchlight's Indian drama "Slumdog Millionaire" put another notch in the kudos-season win column Saturday, copping a WGA Award for best adapted screenplay for Simon Beaufoy.
Focus Features' Harvey Milk biopic "Milk," penned by Dustin Lance Black, won best original screenplay.
"This wasn't the easiest movie to produce, you know -- it's pretty gay!" said a grinning Black, who also was honored with the guild's Paul Selvin Award for championing constitutional rights and civil liberties.
Black added that he prayed a lot during the writing of the "Milk" screenplay.
"Mostly, I'll admit, I prayed for a green light," he said. "So I have to thank God, and I want to thank God for making my dreams come true."
In addition to "Milk," nominees in the original screenplay category included "Burn After Reading, "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," The Visitor" and "The Wrestler."

Larry Ditillio, whose writing credits include executive story editor on the series "Bablyon 5," will be honored with the WGA West's 2009 Morgan Cox Award in recognition of his longtime service to the guild and improving the working conditions of his fellow writers.
He will be presented with the award Feb. 7 at the WGA Awards at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.
"Larry has done so much thankless work for our guild, we had to finally say thanks," Wgaw president Patric Verrone said. "If there's a committee Larry hasn't worked on or a service he hasn't performed, he will."
An active Wgaw member since 1973, Ditillio has served on numerous guild committees, including age awareness (1997-2002), freedom of expression (1974-76), new members (1976-81), officers nominating (1979), social activities (1979-89), strike study (1988), tellers (1979-2008), work exchange (1989) and writers craft conference (1996-2000).
