Netflix just announced a September 18, 2025 premiere date for the limited series Black Rabbit, set in New York City and starring Jude Law (The Order) and Jason Bateman (Ozark). The premiere date announcement was accompanied by the first batch of photos from the eight-episode series.

Bateman directs the first two episodes and serves as an executive producer along with Jude Law. The anticipated Netflix limited series starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law as reunited brothers that centers on the city’s next hotspot restaurant and lounge (called Black Rabbit) now has a release date. The eight-episode series, also titled Black Rabbit, launches Sept. 18 on Netflix.

Mubi acquired German drama Sound of Falling, the biggest unanticipated breakout of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, for distribution in multiple territories including North America. The Tribeca Festival has named jury members for the 15 competitive categories in its 2025 edition, running June 4-15 in New York City.

The winning films and filmmakers in each category will be announced at the festival’s awards ceremony on June 12.

The jury for the event’s US Narrative Feature competition comprises filmmaker Nia DaCosta, veteran producer Art Linson, filmmaker Joshua Marston, Bleecker Street head Kent Sanderson and author Colson Whitehead.

The International Narrative Feature competition jury consists of Polish-born actress Dagmara Dominczyk, Italian actress Valeria Golino, UK talent Toby Jones, Metrograph Pictures executive David Laub and actor Kyle MacLachlan.

Tribeca Festival has unveiled an diverse jury lineup for its 2025 edition across 15 categories with writers, directors, actors, producers, Oscar winners and comedy trail blazers from Colson Whitehead, Nia DaCosta and Matthew Broderick to Jennifer Beals, Ilana Glazer, Art Linson, Kyle MacLachlan and Mira Sorvino.

Per Av Club, Law confirmed in an interview with Deadline that he will be portraying Putin in the upcoming drama, The Wizard of the Kremlin. From director Olivier Assayas, The Wizard of the Kremlin is a feature adaptation of the novel written by Giuliano da Empoli, which centers around a fictitious TV producer, Vadim Baranov, who recounts to the book's author how he helped Putin rise to power after the fall of the Soviet Union. Though best known as Superman in Man of Steel and Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s hit series The Witcher, Henry Cavill’s career should have taken off when he appeared in 2002’s The Count of Monte Cristo. Based on the classic 1844 novel of the same name by Alexandre Dumas, the story has been adapted myriad times across film and TV in many different styles. The 2002 version, starring Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce, and Cavill, is one of the best. It received a commendable 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed over $75 at the worldwide box office (via Box Office Mojo).

House of the Dragon expertly blends high fantasy, political intrigue, and familial drama — and the combination of all those things makes it difficult to find similar TV shows. The Game of Thrones spinoff has yet to reach the heights of its predecessor, but it boasts many of the same strengths as the original HBO series. Its balance of personal and political stakes is impressive over the course of its first two seasons, and things promise to get even more tense between the members of House Targaryen in House of the Dragon season 3.

Unfortunately, it could be a while before the next season of House of the Dragon premieres, especially if the show repeats the two-year gap between seasons 1 and 2. This may leave viewers wondering what to watch in the meantime. While there aren't many shows exactly like House of the Dragon, there are some great series that feature similar elements and themes.
