‘Nadja,’ from Michael Almereyda and EP David Lynch, Gets 4K Director’s Cut from Grasshopper Film and Arbelos
Image
After 30 years, “Nadja” will return to theaters — this time with a 4K director’s cut to showcase Michael Almereyda’s original vision for the cult vampire film. “Nadja,” executive produced by late auteur David Lynch (who also has a cameo in the film), first debuted at the 1994 Toronto International Film Festival. Now, the 4K restoration of the feature will premiere at TIFF 2025.

IndieWire can announce that Grasshopper Film and Arbelos will be distributing “Nadja” in 4K. Grasshopper Film and Arbelos acquired the international distribution rights for the new version and will release it in North American theaters in late 2025, followed by a release on streaming platforms.

“Nadja” blends André Breton’s surrealist 1928 novel of the same name with 1936 film “Dracula’s Daughter.” Elina Löwensohn stars as the titular young vampire who returns to NYC to avenge her father’s death at the hands of Dr. Van Helsing (Peter Fonda). Jared Harris,...

This Forgotten Michael B. Jordan Sci-Fi Sleeper Hit Is Climbing Streaming Charts
Image
Michael B. Jordan first broke out on television with his role as Wallace in the inaugural season of HBO's highly acclaimed drama, The Wire (2002). He subsequently appeared as a series regular on the ABC soap opera All My Children (2003–2006) and later delivered a standout performance in the NBC sports drama Friday Night Lights (2009–2011).

In the past decade, Jordan has become best known for his collaborations with writer-director Ryan Coogler – including Fruitvale Station (2013), Creed (2015), Black Panther (2018), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and Sinners (2025) – all of which earned him critical acclaim. He returned to his titular role in Creed II (2018) and Creed III (2023), the latter marking his directorial debut.

Jordan's broader filmography also includes roles in Chronicle (2012), That Awkward Moment (2014), Fantastic Four (2015), and Just Mercy (2019), in which he played civil rights lawyer Bryan Stevenson. However, it's Jordan's dystopian movie, adapted from an acclaimed book, that is seeing a resurgence on streaming, seven years after its initial release.

5 TV Shows You Didn’t Know Are Written by ‘The White Lotus’ Creator Mike White
Image
By now, most of us have either watched, read about, or at least heard the buzz surrounding The White Lotus. With its beautifully messy characters and addictive plotlines, Mike White’s vacation-gone-wrong series has taken the world by storm. The show recently wrapped up its third season, and fans can’t get enough of it for obvious reasons.

But here’s the kicker—Mike White didn’t just waltz in with The White Lotus like some Hollywood rookie. Nah, he’s been in the game for years, juggling roles as a screenwriter, director, actor, and even a reality TV wildcard. Talk about a plot twist! Believe it or not, White and his dad teamed up twice on The Amazing Race. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, he crushed it on Survivor in 2018, lasting all 39 days and landing the runner-up spot. Talk about a guy with range!

3 things we learned about Mike White’s forgotten first show ‘Pasadena’
Image
When it comes to Mike White's TV credits that are not The White Lotus, most people would probably name the gone-too-soon Enlightened, his early work as a writer on Dawson's Creek and Freaks and Geeks, or even his reality stints on The Amazing Race (twice) and Survivor. But one that hardly ever comes up is Pasadena.

The Fox prime-time soap was the first series White created. Named after his California hometown, the show had the nascent marks of what everyone loves about The White Lotus now: a mysterious death, backstabbing, secrets, privileged white people, and even sexual tension between — yes — siblings. It starred Dana Delany as the matriarch of the wealthy Greeleys. After her daughter, Lily (Alison Lohman), witnesses a murder, family secrets are uncovered. The cast also included Martin Donovan, Balthazar Getty, Mark Valley, Christopher Marquette, and Natasha Gregson Wagner. Diane Keaton even directed the pilot. Pasadena got...

Emily Blunt Absolutely Thrills in This Wildly Frigid Supernatural Horror Streaming for Free
Image
Horror films can work in any season, but there's just something extra creepy about a scary movie set in the winter. All-time classics like The Thing and The Shining took place in the coldest months, along with more recent and smaller films such as Frozenand the Cold Prey franchise. Winter is often a time when we're enclosed in small areas to fight off the elements, which can lead to restricted and claustrophobic plots. Such is the case for 2007's Wind Chill, directed by Gregory Jacobs and starring Ashton Holmes, Martin Donovan, and a future Hollywood megastar, Emily Blunt. One viewing of Wind Chill and you can see why Blunt was cast and how she became so famous. She is able to play a character that's both unlikable and easy to root for, all while trapped in a crashed car on the side of a barren road where something evil waits just outside.

Michael Douglas' 2006 Political Action Film with 34% Rt Becomes a Hit on Netflix
Image
The ongoing conversation between theaters vs. streaming has many good arguments on each side. However, streaming services are also a way for films that haven't performed well in theaters to get a new chance for success.

Michael Douglas' 2006 political action film is one of them. The two-time Academy Award winner (for 1987's Wall Street and a shared award for 1975's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) starred in Clark Johnson's The Sentinel, and the film was not a big hit with the critics or the audience. Almost two decades later, The Sentinel found success on Netflix, debuting at No. 2 on the global charts with 7.9 million views, the equivalent of 14.2 million hours viewed.

Sebastian Stan Lands Oscar Nom for Playing Donald Trump in ‘The Apprentice’
Image
Sebastian Stan is having a huge moment, as the actor earned a 2025 Oscars nomination for his portrayal of a young Donald Trump in the movie The Apprentice.

Released in October by Briarcliff Entertainment to a muted box office response, The Apprentice landed two Academy Award nominations, including a best supporting actor nod for Jeremy Strong as late attorney Roy Cohn. The film also earned nominations for both Stan and Strong at this year’s Golden Globes. (Neither actor prevailed in those categories at the Globes, but Stan did win best actor in a comedy film this year for his role in A Different Man.)

Emily Blunt's Chilling 17-Year-Old Horror Film Gets a New Streaming Home

Nearly two decades ago, Emily Blunt starred in a supernatural horror film that perhaps doesn't get the attention it deserves. For anyone who has yet to watch the movie, they can do so free of charge first thing next year.

On Jan. 1, Wind Chill will start streaming for free on Tubi. Released in 2007, the movie stars Blunt, the revered Golden Globe winner who was recently nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the smash hit film Oppenheimer. Though it follows her more well-known role in 2006's The Devil Wears Prada, Wind Chill was the first movie to put Blunt firmly in the lead. Every Christopher Nolan Movie Soundtrack, Ranked by Replayability
Image
Director Christopher Nolan is often regarded as one of the best filmmakers of the 21st century, if not all time. Like most auteurs, Nolan has a unique vision for telling stories. But unlike other directors, he's not shy about telling them in multiple genres. Christopher Nolan's wide variety of films makes for a ton of interesting creative decisions. From the set designs and cinematography to the intricately crafted screenplays and imagery, Nolan's films are brilliant.

Fans will point to various aspects of Nolan's filmography that stick with them. Obviously, when crafting one of the best trilogies of all time in the Batman universe, characters become a staple of the films. Nolan's Bruce Wayne, Joker and Bane are forever iconic. However, other aspects of his films stand out as well. Many of his films are some of the most thematically resonant, such as Interstellar and Inception, while others, like Memento, stand out for their storytelling structure.

The director of Sebastian Stan's controversial 2024 biopic addresses the movie not performing well at the box office. Megan Hilty Reveals Hilarious On-Theme Note Meryl Streep Gave Her Ahead Of ‘Death Becomes Her’ Broadway Debut: “I’m Dead”
Image
While her Death Becomes Her character isn’t a good sport, Meryl Streep sure is — and drop-dead hilarious at that.

Tony nominee Megan Hilty, who is currently reincarnating the self-centered has-been actress Madeline Ashton (whom Streep originated in the 1992 Robert Zemeckis fantasy-comedy) on the Broadway stage, shared an apt note the original star gave her ahead of her debut yesterday.

“Break a leg, or I’ll break it for you. With dried and undying love and respect, Meryl,” the note read, accompanied by flowers past their best-by date. Of course, the on-theme well wishes reference the comical ends eventually reached by frenemies Madeline and Goldie Hawn’s Helen Sharp, who break all kinds of bones in their desperate bid toward eternal youth and beauty.

In keeping with the joke, Hilty responded, “I’m dead. ☠️”

Death Becomes Her opened on Broadway Thursday night, with Deadline’s review calling it “a virtually perfect big-budget,...

‘Death Becomes Her’ Broadway Review: Megan Hilty & Jennifer Simard Shine In Life Force Of A Musical
Image
A perfect rejoinder to the ubiquitous Broadway Sucks These Days gripe about the too-many movie-to-stage adaptations has arrived at long last, and it’s a simple three-word response: Death Becomes Her. A virtually perfect big-budget, broad-appeal musical comedy that improves in every way over the 1992 film, director-choreographer Christopher Gattelli’s wildly entertaining vehicle for two of our best singer-actor-comedians on any stage today renders the movie-as-source snipe worthless.

Don’t waste a minute’s thought on which of the two – Megan Hilty or Jennifer Simard – come out on top with this delight of a holiday gift (let Tony voters lose sleep over that one next spring). The two work together like the ingredients of a dangerous magical potion, each delivering precisely nuanced yet stupendously big performances in amounts that, were they off by so much as a fraction, would thoroughly undo the magic.

And singling out Hilty and Simard certainly...

Sebastian Stan Says Actors Won't Discuss 'The Apprentice' for Fear of Donald Trump

Sebastian Stan was highly praised for portraying Donald Trump in the biographical drama, The Apprentice. While the movie did not make a huge splash at the box office, it stirred up a lot of controversy prior to its release, thanks mainly to the former and new president of America. Now Stan has revealed that since Trumps unprecedented election victory, he has found himself being shut out when it comes to being able to speak about the movie even having to cancel an episode of Varietys Actors on Actors series as no one would participate with him.

Speaking at a Q&a after a screening of The Apprentice, Stan joined director Ali Abbasi to talk about the film, and revealed that he has struggled to find people willing to openly discuss the movie and its subject in any way for fear of receiving some kind of blowback for it. Stan said:...

Coralie Fargeat at an event for Revenge (2017)
Death Becomes Her: How The Og ‘Substance’ Succeeds Where its Successor Falters
Coralie Fargeat at an event for Revenge (2017)
We open with an epicenter of American celebrity, which uses a piece of classic iconography to introduce our female protagonist as a true star. However, that iconography soon falls apart, representing their decline into the realm of the has-been. What I have described is not the start of Coralie Fargeat’s new film “The Substance,” in which Elizabeth Sparkle’s (Demi Moore) star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame fades and cracks. Instead, I am referring to the opening of Robert Zemeckis’ “Death Becomes Her,” where a downward pan reveals disappointed audiences walking out of Madeline Ashton’s (Meryl Streep) new Broadway show before we see her Playbill cover sodden in a puddle.

Although Fargeat does not directly quote Zemeckis’ camp classic, opting instead to pay homage to films like “The Shining” and “Carrie,” the parallels between the two are clear. Both films feature a formerly celebrated star who has slipped from the limelight and,...

Insomnia (2002) Ending Explained
Image
Christopher Nolan's 2002 thriller Insomnia is full of twists and turns that many fans of the director find enjoyable, if not confusing. The movie follows Detective Dormer (Al Pacino), who goes to an always-light Alaska with his partner Hap Eckhart (Martin Donovan) and Alaskan detective Burr (Hilary Swank) to investigate a woman's murder. There, Dormer accidentally kills his partner and is badgered by the woman's killer, Walter Finch (Robin Williams), who knows his secret. Insomnia doesn't have a signature Christopher Nolan twist ending, but it does have a somewhat ambiguous final moment.

Insomnia is relatively straightforward with Insomnia's actors and director all having considerable filmmaking experience. This professionalism and film setting made Insomnia a well-liked movie, with a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. Christopher Nolan himself considers the movie underrated, overshadowed by his other major hits. However, Insomnia is especially memorable and poignant in its final moments, though some are left...

Special Ops: Lioness Cast & Character Guide
Image
Paramount+'s Special Ops: Lioness contains a talented and distinguished cast, ranging from Academy Award winners to an actress who has starred in four of the highest-grossing movies of all time. The spy thriller TV show comes from the mind of Taylor Sheridan, who is most known for creating Yellowstone and all its spinoffs. However, Sheridan branched out from the neo-Western drama when Special Ops: Lioness debuted in July 2023, and it was a hit for Paramount+ (despite receiving mixed reviews from critics). As a result, the platform renewed it for a second season, which premieres in October 2024.

Paramount+ changed the show's title from Special Ops: Lioness to just Lioness in season 2.

The spy thriller series revolves around the CIA's Lioness program, which Special Ops: Lioness bases on a real military task force now defunct. The CIA recruits a female operative to infiltrate terrorist organizations or other groups that...

Lioness Review: Season 2 of Zoe Saldaña Spy Thriller Is One of the Year’s Best Shows
Image
Paramount+’s Lioness may have shed its “Special Ops”: prefix for Season 2, but it made significant gains everywhere else.

Simply said, the Zoe Saldaña-led spy thriller’s sophomore run is fantastic, and stands as one of the year’s best TV shows. The only thing keeping it from an “A+” grade is that at times it gets so into the weeds of intelligence gathering and hair-trigger geopolitical issues, it can be a bit hard to follow. But if that is your jam (as it is mine), a rip-roaring thrill ride awaits.

‘The Apprentice’ Review
Image
Stars: Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong, Maria Bakalova, Martin Donovan, Catherine McNally, Charlie Carrick, Ben Sullivan | Written by Gabriel Sherman | Directed by Ali Abbasi

Directed by Ali Abbasi (who made Iranian serial killer drama Holy Spider) and written by political journalist Gabriel Sherman, The Apprentice is a chilling account of Donald Trump’s rise to power in New York in the ’70s and ’80s. It’s particularly fascinating because it traces the origins of key elements of Trump’s larger-than-life persona, though it arguably never gets below the surface.

The Apprentice begins in 1973, where 27-year-old Donald Trump (Sebastian Stan) is working as a rent collector for a real estate company owned by his father, Fred (Martin Donovan). With an upcoming lawsuit hanging over their heads, Trump starts hanging out at a swanky New York club, where he’s singled out by shark-like lawyer Roy Cohn (Succession’s Jeremy Strong), who revels...

Sebastian Stan Recalls ‘Star Trek’, ‘Green Lantern’ Roles He “Desperately Wanted”
Image
Although Sebastian Stan has taken on the role of a lifetime with The Apprentice, he still holds a light for some of the roles he didn’t get.

The Golden Globe nominee, who portrays Donald Trump in the Ali Abbasi-helmed film, recently revealed that he was up for starring roles in Star Trek (2009) and Green Lantern (2011) years before playing the twice-impeached president.

“There were a couple of things I didn’t get that I really desperately wanted,” he said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “But Captain Kirk for J.J. Abrams; that was one of the first I got very close to. I remember I was really, really close, and I remember I had a screen test with [Abrams] at Paramount, and my manager had me do a separate photo shoot where I would try and replicate all these William Shatner pictures just to send to him, see how much I looked like him,...

The Apprentice Review – Lff 2024
Jeremy Strong, Sebastian Stan, and Maria Bakalova in The Apprentice (2024)
The Apprentice is a bold and intense biographical drama that delves into Donald Trump’s rise as a real estate mogul in New York during the 1970s and ’80s. Directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabriel Sherman, the film stars Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as his ruthless mentor, Roy Cohn. After years in production limbo, it finally premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and has since become a powerful examination of Trump’s early years.

The story follows Trump’s journey from a somewhat naïve young man born into wealth, to a cold and calculating businessman who learns the dark arts of manipulation, deceit, and power from Cohn. From navigating real estate deals in New York to his family dynamics, the film lays bare his transformation into the domineering figure we recognise today. The narrative carefully unfolds how Trump, who initially seems unsure of his own potential,...

Ali Abbasi Says He’s ‘Available to Talk’ After Donald Trump Rips ‘The Apprentice’ as a ‘Hatchet Job’
Image
“The Apprentice” director Ali Abbasi is here to talk if you need to, Donald Trump.

Abbasi has weathered numerous digs from the former president, including a threatened lawsuit. In turn, “The Apprentice” producers launched a Kickstarter campaign to cover anticipated legal fees, as well as to increase marketing and host screenings of their film ahead of the 2024 election.

Now, Abbasi is asking Trump if he finally wants to bury the hatchet — sort of. In response to Trump’s latest tirade against the film, Abbasi tweeted, “Thanks for getting back to us, Donald Trump. I am available to talk further if you want. Today is a tight day w a lot of press for ‘The Apprentice,’ but i might be able to give you a call tomorrow.”

Abbasi’s film follows Trump — portrayed by Sebastian Stan — during the late ’70s and early ’80s as he is mentored by late right-wing lawyer...

Donald Trump Is Not Holding Back On Sebastian Stan's The Apprentice
Image
This article contains a discussion of sexual assault.

Former President of the United States and "Home Alone 2" actor Donald Trump isn't happy about how he's portrayed in the explosive new biopic "The Apprentice." The movie, which stars Sebastian Stan as Trump, takes a searing look at Trump's real-estate career in New York in the 1970s and 1980s, and though it's not exactly clear if Trump has seen the film, he does not like it.

The film officially released in the United States on Friday, October 11, and Trump quickly took to Truth Social, his social media platform, to put the movie on blast.

"A Fake and Classless Movie written about me, called, 'The Apprentice' (Do they even have the right to use that name without approval?), will hopefully 'bomb,'" the Republican candidate for president wrote. "It's a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job, put out right before the 2024 Presidential Election,...

Sebastian Stan’s Secret for Gaining Weight to Play Trump: Drinking ‘A Lot of Coca-Cola,’ the ‘Apprentice’ Actor Says
Image
Sebastian Stan was tasked with gaining 15 pounds when he took on the role of Donald Trump in “The Apprentice” — a feat he managed with the help of Coca-Cola. “I actually started drinking a lot of Coca-Cola. Tell you, if you drink four Coca-Colas a day, a lot of things happen to your body. Don’t do it,” he told “Entertainment Tonight.”

“I think it is important that we try and understand this person beyond just, you know, the red tie and the flare and the mannerisms and everything, and just try to get underneath it,” Stan added.

Stan’s weight gain method of choice was somewhat appropriate, given Trump’s own love of soda. Of course, Trump doesn’t go for the sugary version — he shared in 2017 that he drinks 12 Diet Cokes a day.

“The Apprentice” is set in 1970s and ’80s New York, a time during which a young...

Image
A new movie about Donald Trump titled The Apprentice debuted today, Friday October 11, 25 days before the 2024 presidential election in which Trump and Kamala Harris are pitted against each other.

The film is an “an R-rated dramatization of the early years of Donald Trump.” It depicts his rise to the top of Manhattan real estate heap as a mentee of “fixer” Roy Cohn. What does Trump think of the dramatization of his life? According to NBC News, “Trump’s campaign says the film is “garbage.”

Donald Trump’s New Movie

The Apprentice is described as a biographical drama focused on his time in New York in the 1970s and 1980s.
