Frieren: Beyond Journey's End has become a streaming hit once more on a platform outside Crunchyroll, and no, it's not Netflix. This fantasy anime that lost to Solo Leveling for Anime of the Year has left a mark on HBO's streaming charts. It seems this show is now available on more streaming platforms, making it more accessible before Season 2 comes out in 2026.
According to FlixPatrol, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End ranked at #15 on HBO Max's Top TV Shows on August 2, 2025, worldwide. Looking deeper into the rankings, the countries that are streaming this anime series are mainly those located in Latam, like Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia, just to name a few. And while this region can access Crunchyroll, it's fascinating to see that this show is available outside the anime streaming giant.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 1 aired from September 29, 2023, until March 22, 2024, comprising 28 episodes that covered the first four-story arcs from the manga.

Dragon Ball is a phenomenon! From Goku and his Kamehameha blasts to Beerus and his cat naps, the franchise is an absolute force. The show has been a vibe since the beginning, but with the release of Battle of Gods in 2013, things changed with Beerus, the God of Destruction, entering the Dragon Ball world.
Voiced by Jason Douglas, this chill yet terrifying character steals the show with his swagger in every scene. Beerus is a character that’s just on a whole different level, and the voice actor?
The role totally flipped Douglas’s world as he had no idea of how huge this could become for him. He had been voice acting in anime for years, thinking he had witnessed everything, but Dragon Ball had the type of fans’ energy that hit like a Spirit Bomb!
Jason Douglas’ crazy stint with Beerus
Douglas was truly unprepared for what would happen.

This article discusses sensitive themes such as sexual assault and underage characters in uncomfortable situations.
Hot spring episodes are a staple in the anime genre. Audiences tend to have mixed feelings about these storylines. Some appreciate them for their humor and fanservice, while others are disgusted by the exploitation of characters in these types of episodes and scenes. To both sides' credit, there are both hilarious and uncomfortable Hot Springs scenes. Yet, when they’re bad, they are truly terrible.
The most problematic hot spring scenes showcase unsolicited peeping or — in more severe cases — sexual assault. Some of these scenes are played off as unintentional for comedy, but the creators are keenly aware of what they’re making their characters do in any given scene. Anime hot spring scenes have the opportunity to showcase a grand tradition, but too many of them are too uncomfortable to be enjoyed.

The shojo anime genre has been around for decades and has provided fans with some of the best series. Fan favorites like Fruits Basket and Yona of the Dawn have led many viewers to try other shojo properties as well. Newer fans typically go for more recent anime, but some old gems are just as good (if not better) than a lot of the current shojo anime series.
The best older shojo anime give audiences a feeling of nostalgia, from more fantastical plotlines to an “exaggerated realism” animation style. They also portray a wider breadth of surprisingly empowering female characters for the time of their creation. Shojo anime nowadays are great, but these lost diamonds should not be kept in the dark, either.

Streaming has given many films a second chance, especially those that didn't make a profit at the box office or didn't get a release at all. Laura Dern's crime drama is among them.
In 2018, Dern starred in Blood Diamonds' Edward Zwick's biographical crime drama Trial by Fire, which was recently released on Netflix. The film was based on Cameron Todd Willingham's real-life case, and used David Grann's 2009 The New York Times article "Trial by Fire" as a base. Now, the movie has found a second life on streaming and has become a hit on Netflix, Tudum reports.

Killing off a character in an anime is always a bold choice. However, it isn't always the best choice. Many character deaths in anime are the source of fan disagreements. Not every death is actually needed after all. More than that, sometimes a character dies purely for the sake of shock value. This eliminates the potential they have to better the story in the future. Once the shock value is realized, the emotional weight of that kind of character death is completely gone.
Characters die in anime for many reasons, whether to devastate the viewers or further the plot. Hunter x Hunter contrasts its happy-go-lucky lead with the constant death and danger of the world. Maes Hughes has one of the most iconic deaths in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and all anime because of how beloved his character is. These are deaths that fans might not always like, but they can appreciate.

Sailor Moon set the standard for magical girl, shojo, and romance anime. It follows Sailor Moon's love story with Tuxedo Mask in their current lives, and in their past lives as princess of the Moon Kingdom and prince of Earth. They have a swoon-worthy story, where they meet as their celestial alter egos, and they immediately feel a pull toward one another.
Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask have a bit of a tsundere dynamic in the '90s anime adaptation, and tsundere romances will always be popular in romance anime. After the first story arc, their romance becomes more nuanced. Their romance is so iconic that it popularized certain character tropes and inspired elements of future romance anime.

There's nothing better than seeing an anime reference outside its original series. Some shows or moments are so popular, other series can't help but incorporate some of their elements within their own shows. Major staples of the anime medium, like Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Pokémon, and more can be found not only throughout anime, but even with western TV and movies as well. It doesn't take much to include an anime cameo within a series.
Sometimes, cameos are so quick, it might take another watch to catch them. Anime cameos don't have to derail a show or dedicate an entire episode as a homage. Instead, a good anime reference pops up on the screen for just a few frames, perfect for the anime fanatic who can catch a Scout Uniform from Attack on Titan in the background of their favorite series.

Sons of Anarchy features many characters who are both fan favorites but also irredeemable. Set in a world of crime and chaos, bad situations lead to even worse choices. Before anyone realizes, things are too far gone to be saved.
Shows with no redeemable characters have their own charm. They tend to tackle dark and forbidden topics like revenge, cannibalism and war. Many shows have irredeemable characters like Jax. They may have done one really bad thing, or they have done several over the course of the entire series. Sometimes, TV shows introduce characters who seem fundamental to the story, but it becomes clear that the writers aren't sure what to do with them after their initial storyline. The result is often that the TV show will repeat the same story many times, focusing on one character. Maybe said character will eventually be written out of the show when the actor or writers have had enough, but they may be needed for one particular future storyline.
Some TV show love interests that were suddenly dropped and great female TV characters that deserved better ended up in these circumstances because creativity had run out concerning their arcs. Great TV shows should effectively use all their characters, at least providing a reason for them to be shelved for a while if screen time is limited. Shojo anime are beloved for their mostly romantic plots and beautiful details. But not everything in shojo anime is always swathed in bubbles and roses. A growing number of shojo stories have been weaving darker themes into their tales. These shows start as the sparkling love stories fans adore, but they have some unexpectedly dark moments.
The most surprising and darkest moments shock audiences because they come from almost nowhere. There may have been some hints along the way, but these moments are such stark switches in tone that they catch audiences off guard. The most surprisingly dark moments are incredibly bleak. Some are still necessary for the stories theyre in, while others simply seem out of place in otherwise happy shows.

By this point, Dragon Ball Super is almost as beloved as its predecessor series, and it had a long and successful run as an anime. However, Dragon Ball Super might never have existed if it weren't for the addition of two new characters in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods: Beerus and Whis.
Beerus and Whis were introduced for the movie, intending to give Goku an opponent who was literally on a divine level to match the new power he'd received. Beerus and Whis had some input from Toriyama as they were being created, turning God of Destruction Beerus from a truly evil figure into one that could be reasoned with, and who destroys mostly because it is his responsibility to do so. Toriyama seems to have been intrigued by Beerus and Whis conceptually from the start.

Fans of Dragon Ball Super may be surprised to learn how close the series got to having a spinoff, as evidenced by an interview with artist Toyotarou. While little is known about the proposed spinoff in general, it is known who the story would've supposedly starred: Trunks.
Trunks has been a popular character ever since his future counterpart debuted way back in Dragon Ball Z's Android Saga. Future Trunks has been the subject of anime specials before, but no version of Trunks has ever had the honor of solely headlining a Dragon Ball series. Rather than Future Trunks, as many fans might have preferred, the proposed spinoff was actually about the present-day version of Trunks, and likely would've featured Goten extensively as well.
Judging by what we ultimately got, some fans may be glad that this spinoff never got off the ground.

The latest news from Weekly Shonen Jump seems to indicate that Dragon Ball Super has some big news in store, although fans may have to wait until December to hear it. However, given the position that Dragon Ball Super is currently in, any news is good news.
Weekly Shonen Jump has made the announcement about which series will occupy major spots at the annual Jump Festa event, which takes place in December each year. Roronoa Zoro is the first mate of the Straw Hat Pirates and he is now one of the strongest characters in One Piece. Zoro is a master swordsman who created the iconic Three-Sword Style. He is one of the few people in the world who can use all three types of Haki, and he can strengthen his blades with advanced Armament and Conqueror's Haki.
Zoro has defeated many powerful opponents over the course of the series, but he will need to defeat even more characters in One Piece's Final Saga. Zoro will have to beat several other pirates before the series ends, but there is a good chance he will also have to fight some high ranking Marines and World Nobles. Most of these characters possess Devil Fruits, and many of them also have potent Haki.

With a large yet colorful cast, Fairy Tail became one of the most popular shnen anime of the 2000s. While Lucy and Natsu were the leads, plenty of the other characters also got their time in the spotlight. Gray, Erza, and even some characters who weren't in the main guild, like Sting and Rogue, played a major part in key moments of the overall story.
However, with a cast that large, it's not a surprise that some characters didn't get the attention they deserved. Some were background characters who could have been more interesting if they'd been developed more. Others appeared more frequently, but weren't used to their full potential. All of them would've been better served getting a bit more love.

Crunchyroll just rolled out the English dub of ‘Dragon Ball Super!’ You can start watching at 1:00 Pm Pst today. It’s a treat for those of us who’ve been waiting to enjoy the series with English voiceovers.
The cool part is, the dub brings back familiar voices from the classic ‘Dragon Ball’ series. Sean Schemmel is voicing Goku again, and Christopher R. Sabat takes on both Piccolo and Vegeta. Plus, we’ve got some fresh voices like Matthew Mercer as Hit and David Gray as Zamasu.
And there’s more to the voice cast. We’re talking Kyle Hebert as Gohan, Christopher Ayres as Frieza, and Monica Rial stepping into Bulma’s shoes. Not to forget, Jason Douglas as Beerus and Patrick Seitz lending his voice to Jiren. The list goes on with talents like Sonny Strait as Krillin and Eric Vale as Future Trunks.

Preacher (2016) gave fans some truly novel heroes, but it also gave audiences a new kind of modern Western villain, The Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish). And while Jessie's (Dominic Cooper), Tulip's (Ruth Negga), and Cassidy's (Joseph Gilgun) stories are at the heart of the show, the Saint of Killers is undoubtedly the forge that tempers their resolve. What makes the Saint so evil is his complete and utter indifference to human life. He kills both the good and not-so-good alike, his bullets never missing and his blade never dulling. He is relentless, and although most Westerns are filled with amoral killers, there are none so badass that they have killed both God (Mark Harelik) and Satan (Jason Douglas) and everything and everyone in between.

Goku had the option to undergo the Potential Unleashed ceremony before the Tournament of Power. Gohan and Piccolo have both previously unlocked their latent potential in the same way. Having his Potential Unleashed could help Goku surpass even his True Ultra Instinct and stand a chance against powerful foes like Black Frieza.
It may seem like Goku has reached his peak in Dragon Ball Super, but there's actually at least one power-up option that's still left on the table, thanks to the time crunch before the Tournament of Power. That power-up is, of course, the Potential Unleashed ceremony.
In the original Dragon Ball Z, Gohan undergoes a lengthy ritual with the Elder Kai which unlocks his latent potential, allowing him to go far beyond his limits. This leads to Gohan developing his Ultimate form, a transformation so powerful that he rarely even uses Super Saiyan anymore.

"Let's blast this thing!!" Our friends at Bloody Disgusting have revealed a gory teaser trailer for an extreme gross-out horror comedy called Cyst, which premiered at both FrightFest and Fantastic Fest this year. This is one of these super disgusting, gory-as-f&!k, body horror creations that may make you puke. In the 1960s, a nurse's last day is ruined when a crazy doctor inadvertently creates a cyst monster that terrorizes the office. Everybody scream! The cyst is loose! The cult horror stars Greg Sestero, Eva Habermann, Jason Douglas, Gene Jones, George Hardy, Darren Ewing, Francesca Santoro, Keturah Branch, and Kyle Roberts as the Cyst Monster. Hell yes - man in suit! My goodness this looks so revolting. But it might be ridiculous fun? Or not? Only one way to find out ha! Dive right in. But please make sure you wear a mask. Here's the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Tyler Russell's Cyst,...

Cyst is a gooey horror film from director Tyler Russell (Texas Cotton). This title had its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest this past September. Now, the film will be searching for a wider release, with help from Raven Banner Entertainment. In the story, a laser beam creates a monster in a doctor's office. With no way to destroy this thing, this monster goes on a rampage, destroying everything and everyone. Very much a blend of horror and sci-fi, this feature stars: Greg Sestero, (The Disaster Artist) Jason Douglas ("The Walking Dead"), Evan Habermann and Gene Jones. A preview of the film's impending launch is hosted here. Several stills have been released for the film, which runs a lean sixty-nine minutes. The stills show the monster and how each character is attacked by this gruesome (yet small) beast. Utilizing practical effects, this feature does look impressive. Cyst does not have a release date as of yet.

It’s the early 1960s and a small-town doctor invents a machine that uses laser technology to remove skin abnormalities. He pulls out all the stops to make sure his final chance to get the patent on his ‘Get Gone’ appliance goes smoothly. But his nurse thinks the contraption is dangerous and not ready. The struggle between the two causes the apparatus to malfunction creating a giant cyst monster that goes on a bloody rampage.
Very much in the vein of the William Castle and Rgoer Corman flicks of the 50s and 60s, Cyst is – like the remake of The Brain That Wouldn’t Die which also screened as part of Frightfest – very much an homage to the films of that period, with set and costume design,...

"There's no arson, there's no crime!" Roadside Attractions has debuted an official trailer for a true story drama titled Trial by Fire, the latest film from acclaimed director Edward Zwick. This premiered at the Telluride Film Festival last year, but not at any other fests. Trial by Fire tells the tragic and controversial story of Cameron Todd Willingham, who was executed in Texas for killing his three children after scientific evidence and expert testimony bolstering his claims of innocence were suppressed. It's an upsetting, moving story being told here by some incredibly talented actors. Jack O'Connell stars as Cameron, who looks a lot like Anton Yelchin in this, and the cast includes Laura Dern as a woman who fights for his freedom, plus Emily Meade, McKinley Belcher III, Chris Coy, Joshua Mikel, Jason Douglas, Jeff Perry, and Jade Pettyjohn. Well, this looks pretty damn good, with O'Connell giving yet another stellar performance.

As we gear up for this Sunday’s season three finale of AMC’s “Preacher” we are taking a look back at our chat with the cast and crew of the series that took place at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. Series stars stars Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, and Joseph Gilgun, along with executive producer/showrunner Sam Catlin and executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg definitely gave us quite a bit of insight about the overall oddness that encompassed this season, as well as, shedding some light on what is to come in the future.
In the season finale we will see Jesse take on Marie ‘Gran’ma’ L’Angelle (Betty Buckley) – who has sided with Satan (Jason Douglas) – to get her back for years of abuse, but first he’ll have to battle her henchmen Jody (Jeremy Childs), who killed Jesse’s father, and Tc (Colin Cunningham).

Season 8 of “The Walking Dead” has been full of bloodshed. Shiva was devoured alive, Eric bled out and joined the undead, The Scavengers were massacred in a hail of bullets, and Carl (Chandler Riggs) took his own life after suffering from a zombie bite. And with just three episodes left in the season, the worst may be yet to come.
In the most recent episode, “Do Not Send Us Astray,” Tobin (Jason Douglas) fell victim to a Savior’s infected blade. His reanimated corpse wreaked havoc and death inside The Hilltop. But if this series’ history of including major deaths in last two episodes holds true, the grim reaper is still lurking behind one series mainstay. Let us know which “The Walking Dead” character you think is least likely to survive Season 8 in our poll below.

As has come to be expected, The Walking Dead Season 6 finale has been expanded to 90 minutes from its usual 60 minute air time. This particular episode promises to be a very brutal one, and it's likely to be the last for at least two fan favorites. Perhaps even more. The extra 30 minutes is being welcomed by fans, who will surely need time to recuperate from all the bloodshed that is bound to drench the small screen.
The Walking Dead has fallen into the habit of presenting special extended episodes. The Walking Dead Season 5 finale was 90 minutes, as was The Walking Dead Season 6 premiere. There have been a number of standalone episodes over the course of the past two years that have also gotten extended runtimes. The Walking Dead will air its final episode of Season 6 on April 3.

After last night's Twice As Far, there are just two more episodes of The Walking Dead left in Season 6. AMC has released two previews for next week's episode East, airing Sunday, March 27 at 9 Pm Et, along with two new photos. There will be Spoilers if you didn't watch Twice As Far yet, so read on at your own risk.

The Walking Dead has been building to the confrontation with Negan's Saviors since the midseason premiere. "Not Tomorrow Yet" has the dramatic showdown, but the results are decidedly negative for the Alexandrians. Tensions during the episode rise as multiple characters cement new relationships while ending others. You get the ominous feeling that the producers are softening up the audience for a major blow.
The episode begins with Carol (Melissa Suzanne McBride) baking cookies to lift everyone's spirits. She dutifully hands out Tupperware with beet and acorn cookies, stopping to place one on young Sam's (Major Dodson), grave. Morgan (Lennie James) approaches her. Carol has not told Rick (Andrew Lincoln) or the others about Morgan hiding the leader of The Wolves. She's also convinced Rosita (Christian Serratos), Tara (Alanna Masterson), and Eugene (Josh McDermitt) to keep quiet. Morgan implores her to speak the truth, accepting his fate, but she shuns him.

Rick's group and the Alexandrians are taking the fight to their latest enemy in The Walking Dead season 6, but when will their luck run out?
This review contains spoilers.
6.12 Not Tomorrow Yet
Very few shows on television can match The Walking Dead when it comes to tension. In last week's episode, where basically nothing of serious danger happened, there was a lot of developing tension. There was nothing to get really tense about, but it worked because this is a universe where letting your guard down, starting a new relationship and giving a monologue about how you'll never give up or let go of your humanity or whatever, usually leads immediately to certain death. Like the walkers that dot the landscape, trouble pops up at the worst times for the survivors.

Title: Two Step Director: Alex R. Johnson Starring: Skyy Moore, James Landry Hebert, Beth Broderick, Jason Douglas, Ashley Rae Spillers, Barry Tubb, Brady Coleman A small town-set indie crime drama of smartly modulated disquiet, ”Two Step” is a refreshing reminder of the abundance of talent, onscreen and off, that lies outside of the conventional cinematic production hubs of Los Angeles and New York City. A SXSW world premiere, writer-director Alex R. Johnson’s film is a slow-boil affair, marked by superb performances and a solid technical package. Baylor University wash-out James (Skyy Moore) returns home, only to have the grandmother who raised him somewhat suddenly pass away and bequeath him a five-figure inheritance. [ Read More ]

This is a repost of our review from the 2014 SXSW Film Festival.
Don’t pay any attention to its baffling, boring title – Two Step is actually a nasty and riveting little flick that, thanks to its excellent execution and fine performances, should land at the top of any self-respecting thriller junkie’s watchlist.
Two Step opens with James (Skyy Moore), a dopey guy in his early twenties who, after being kicked out of college, finds himself tasked with settling the affairs of his recently deceased grandmother. When James discovers that his beloved relative was being conned out of thousands by a criminal masquerading as him over the phone, he foolishly decides to try to track down the man, a rough customer named Webb (James Landry Hébert), and confront him on his own. When Webb unexpectedly shows up on his grandmother’s doorstep and realizes James’ identity, things go south fast.

Ordinary Madness: Johnson’s Character Study Enriched by Neo-Noir Aesthetic
Premiering earlier this year at the SXSW Film Festival, Alex R. Johnson’s directorial debut Two Step is one of those surprisingly adept, slow burn gems that sometimes have trouble finding an audience outside of the festival circuit. Though it features several recognizable character actors, a mere plot synopsis can’t quite do justice to Johnson’s ambiguous title, which takes the concept of a simple dance move and makes it a surprisingly violent situational character study. Though it may ultimately prove too slight for some, and Johnson may not be reinventing the genre, it features enough unexpected moves to prove a heightened command of narrative and tone. At times, it even feels like he’s downplaying the capabilities of his two lead protagonists, and yet, it all seems entirely plausible.
