ITV is gearing up to release a new drama called The Hack, and some exclusive images have just surfaced to hype it up even more. The show is about the phone hacking scandal that rocked Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World more than ten years ago, and it’s created by a talented team: writer Jack Thorne, director Lewis Arnold, and producer Patrick Spence. Deadline first shared news of the project earlier this year, and Australia’s Stan is also helping produce the series.
David Tennant takes the lead as investigative reporter Nick Davies, the journalist who exposed the phone hacking scandal.
In the new photos, Tennant can be seen in action alongside Robert Carlyle, who plays Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook from the Metropolitan Police. Cook’s character is important because he led the investigation into the still-unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan, a story that’s also part of the drama.

The time has come to say goodbye. The official trailer for Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the third and final entry in the big-screen continuation of the beloved PBS series, has arrived.
After 15 years, the story of the Crawleys and their staff will come to an end this September with Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. All the familiar faces are back in the official trailer for the historical drama threequel, which looks set to feature plenty of heartfelt (and heart-wrenching) moments. As is often the case when it comes to Michelle Dockery's Lady Mary Talbot, there will also be a dash of scandal, as the trailer reveals that the fan-favorite character has divorced her husband, Henry Talbot. This development shouldn't come as too much of a shock to Downton fans, given that Henry's portrayer, Matthew Goode, has noticeably been absent from the franchise since the 2019 film, with the...

The doors to Downton are opening one last time — and this time, it’s for goodbye. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale officially premieres in theatres on September 12, and the newly released trailer invites us back into the grand halls of the Crawley estate for one final, emotional visit. After more than a decade of upstairs-downstairs drama, witty remarks, romantic entanglements, and historic milestones, it all comes down to this: one last gathering, one final bow.
Set in a new decade, the trailer wastes no time ushering viewers into a world of opulence, music, and memory. There's a sense that we’re no longer just watching a period drama — we're witnessing a slice of history, filtered through the legacy of a show that’s captivated audiences since 2010. And, of course, the halls of Downton haven’t changed a bit. The ghost of Maggie Smith’s inimitable Violet Crawley, whose legacy lingers...

Downton Abbey is one of those franchises that keeps resurfacing despite a series finale that aired in 2015.
The universe has been kept alive with a movie franchise, but the third big-screen installment will serve as its last.

Focus Features has finally unleased the first real look at Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the third and final film in the movie series based on the PBS period drama created by Julian Fellowes. The film hits theaters September 12.
With some of the same footage shown to exhibitors during Focus’ presentation at CinemaCon earlier this spring, the teaser lays out the plot: the Crawley family and its staff arrive at 1930, looking to the future while saying goodbye to the past.
That includes the family’s famed Grantham Estate. At one point, the head of the family Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville) pays respect to the mansion that made the show famous — the real Highclere Castle in Hampshire, England — by giving it a pat and a kiss, apparently as the family says goodbye to it.
The castle had been the home to the Granthams since the show’s launch in 2011. It would run for six seasons,...

The doors of Downton Abbey are opening one final time this fall. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is set to premiere on September 12, and while we’re not quite ready to say goodbye, the new trailer reminds us that some farewells are worth the tears. The upcoming film brings the beloved period drama to its final chapter, and from what we’ve seen, it promises one last round of grandeur, grace, and goodbyes.
The story of the Crawleys has spanned most of the 20th century in the time that we've spent with them, and the footage welcomes us to a new decade. There’s a sense of spectacle, like we’ve left the cinema and stepped onto the stage of history itself. From there, we’re back in the hallowed halls of Downton, where a painting on the wall pays quiet tribute to Maggie Smith’s iconic Violet Crawley. Friends...

It’s the final installment of beloved series turned film franchise “Downton Abbey.” Aptly titled “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale,” the third film debuted its trailer during CinemaCon, and is now sharing it with audiences everywhere. Julian Fellowes returns to write the installment, which is set in the same universe as his show “The Gilded Age.” Fellowes previously teased that the elusive plot of “The Grand Finale” is “emboldened” by the clock timer invention that takes place in “The Gilded Age.”
The logline for “The Grand Finale” reads: “The time has come to say goodbye to ‘Downton Abbey.’ Focus Features is bringing the beloved Crawley household to theaters for the final installment of the wildly successful franchise written by creator Julian Fellowes.”
The ensemble cast includes Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Michael Fox, Joanne Froggatt, Harry Hadden-Paton, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech,...

Could there be trouble in paradise for the Talbots? Matthew Goode has confirmed that he won’t be reprising his role of Mary’s husband Henry Talbot in the third and final Downton Abbey movie, hitting theaters on Sept. 12, after previously missing the second installment.
“I was unavailable for the second because I was doing The Offer,” Goode recently told The UK’s Radio Times. “[For the third], I was shooting [Netflix’s Department Q]. But I also buggered my knee, and I had to have an operation. That takes weeks to get over, so I was never going to be able to do it.

Paul Giamatti has spoken about returning to the Downton Abbey franchise for the upcoming third film, describing the production as shaped by the absence of Dame Maggie Smith, who died in September 2024.
In an interview with People, Giamatti said the cast continued working with her memory in mind. “It was not the same without her, but it felt very much like in her honor in some way,” he said. “She certainly still feels present through the whole thing. Not having her there is obviously a huge loss, but everybody was still acting in her spirit.”
Giamatti plays Harold Levinson, the brother of Cora Crawley, a role he first portrayed during the show’s 2013 Christmas special. Although his initial appearance was limited to one episode, Giamatti said he was surprised to be invited back. “The interesting thing for me was that they even asked me at all because I was like,...

The time is coming to say goodbye to Downton Abbey and its inhabitants one more time. Today, the official Downton Abbey account on Instagram unveiled the very first poster for the upcoming movie Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. Although the poster is not too revealing, it does put Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) in the spotlight. The always vocal member of the Crawley family certainly won't go out without a bang, and the red dress underscores that. The movie is set to hit theaters on September 12.
While it is difficult to say goodbye to such beloved characters, Downton Abbey fans can't complain. They got to watch six seasons of their favorite show and now will be able to go to theaters a third time to catch up with the Crawley family. The story of The Grand Finale is still being kept under wraps, but once again it is written by franchise...

“Downton Abbey 3” will mark a significant conclusion for the beloved franchise, as the title of the film — as revealed on Thursday — suggests this really is the end of the road for “Downton Abbey.” Unveiling a teaser poster, Focus Features also revealed the film’s title: “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.”
“It’s time to say goodbye,” the tagline reads on the poster, which sees Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) in the familiar halls of Downton. The film hits theaters later this year.
Julian Fellowes, the creator of the TV series and writer of the first two films, returns to pen the screenplay for “The Grand Finale,” which is directed by Simon Curtis who spearheaded 2022’s “Downton Abbey: A New Era.”
Plot details are under wraps but the new film follows in the footsteps of 2022’s “A New Era” and 2019’s “Downton Abbey” movie, both continuations of the acclaimed TV series that ran for six seasons.

ITV has officially announced its drama about the U.K.’s phone-hacking scandal and investigation, a seven-part series now entitled “The Hack” and written by multi award-winner Jack Thorne.
The unveiling of the first look from “The Hack” — which shot last year — comes just a week after the hacking controversy concerning Rupert Murdoch’s U.K. tabloids reached a new peak, with his News Group Newspapers making a historic apology to Prince Harry and agreeing to pay substantial damages.
David Tennant — who himself accepted damages from Ngn over a phone-hacking claim against the now-defunct News of the World — plays Nick Davies, the investigative journalist who uncovered evidence of hacking. Toby Jones plays his former editor-in-chief at The Guardian newspaper, Alan Rusbridger, while — in a story running parallel to the hacking expose — Robert Carlyle plays former Met Police detective chief superintendent Dave Cook, who led an investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan.

Exclusive: The timing couldn’t be better. Just a week after Rupert Murdoch’s shock apology and settlement with Prince Harry, ITV has unveiled a phone hacking drama series from Jack Thorne starring David Tennant as investigative journalist Nick Davies.
ITV and Australian streamer Stan have spent the past year quietly filming, editing and laying the groundwork for The Hack, which comes from the storied creative trio of multi-bafta Award winner Thorne, director Lewis Arnold (Sherwood) and producer Patrick Spence (Mr Bates vs the Post Office).
Set between 2002 and 2012, The Hack interweaves two real life stories, the work of Davies, who uncovered evidence of phone hacking at Murdoch’s now-defunct News of the World, and the story of the investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan, led by former Met Police Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook. Its working titles through the past year have included Broken News and Mandrake.

As the title suggests, Until I Kill You delves into dark themes of domestic violence and its enduring effects. This four-part drama series aired on British network ITV earlier this year, adapting the harrowing autobiography by Delia Balmer. She recounted surviving years of assaults by her boyfriend, John Sweeney, who was later revealed to be a serial killer.
Through flashbacks and a nonlinear narrative, we learn of Delia’s initial meeting with Sweeney at a pub and the horrors that followed. Played with intensity by Anna Maxwell Martin, Delia is no simple victim—she’s a complex, stubborn loner. This makes her all the more believable as a survivor fighting for justice, even as the system fails her. Shaun Evans is disturbingly convincing as Sweeney, charming yet increasingly monstrous.
The story spans decades as Delia struggles with trauma’s lasting shadows. We see how abuse imprints on both mind and body,...
