The Royal Albert Hall is set to embrace its haunted past in a major new event for Halloween 2025. Fright Night, a one-night-only immersive experience hosted by writer and broadcaster Danny Robins, will take place on Thursday 30 October, transforming the iconic venue into the site of a live ghost hunt and supernatural showcase.
Blending high-concept theatre, musical performance and paranormal inquiry, the production will see Robins, best known for the hit podcasts The Battersea Poltergeist and Uncanny, lead audiences through a chilling exploration of the Hall’s ghostly history. The 153-year-old building has long been a source of otherworldly intrigue, with reports of unexplained sightings and eerie disturbances during recent events, including performances by Gary Barlow and Michael Bolton.
In an ambitious twist, Robins will conduct a real-time ghost hunt through the backstage corridors and hidden spaces of the Hall, streamed live to HD screens in the main auditorium. This is...

Trekkies need no reminding, but there is a controversial line of dialogue in Nicholas Meyer's 1991 film "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" that sometimes gets mentioned in nitpicky conversations about the franchise. While investigating a crime, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) notes that "An ancestor of mine maintained that if you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains — however improbable -– must be the truth." The quote, as many know, is traditionally attributed to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, and Spock's use of it left some Trekkies tantalized at the thought of a literary crossover. Is Spock declaring that he is related to Sherlock Holmes? Is Sherlock Holmes a real person in the "Star Trek" universe?
As /Film has explained before, however, that couldn't be true. On "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Sherlock Holmes is repeatedly spoken of as a fictional construct, and the crew of the Enterprise-d regularly...

In the "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" episode "A Space Adventure Hour," Lieutenant LA'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) is asked to test out a brand-new technology on the U.S.S. Enterprise: a holodeck. As Trekkies can tell you, the holodeck is a dedicated room that can create artificial, fully interactive environments, complete with sophisticated NPCs, using holographic emitters, replicator tech, and carefully calibrated force fields. The technology was first introduced, in rudimentary form, in an episode of "Star Trek: The Animated Series" in 1974, although the concept wouldn't be codified until the first episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in 1987. That was when the term "holodeck" was first used.
The holodeck became the source of many, many "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episodes thereafter. Many of the holodeck concepts were created by the late Trek writer Tracy Tormé. Because it could create simulated environments, the show could have a lot...

Long before James Bond, literary icon Sherlock Holmes was a character who has been played by a variety of different actors across decades. Now, the detective has his newest face, with an acclaimed actor chosen to take on the iconic role in CBS and Paramount+’s modern-day reboot.
The CBS series Watson is a modern retelling of the famous detective, putting a twist on the works of Arthur Conan Doyle and focusing on Dr. John Watson (played by Morris Chestnut) rather than Holmes himself. Picking up after the apparent death of Sherlock Holmes, the series finds Watson returning to his work as a medical practitioner, using his newfound detective skills to solve clinical mysteries rather than murders.
The first season of Watson wrapped up back in May, with Season 2 now all set to add Trainspotting, Once Upon a Time, and 28 Weeks Later star Robert Carlyle as Sherlock Holmes. Carlyle...

Peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper, Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia, and Rose — these are all just things that go together. And now, Morris Chestnut’s titular character on CBS’ latest hit series, Watson, has his other half thanks to the casting of Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting) as none other than the legendary detective himself: Sherlock Holmes. For now, Carlyle is confirmed to be appearing in a recurring guest role, which will be an exciting one, as the character of Sherlock Holmes was presumed to be deceased at the top of the debut season. But now we know that the mentor of Chestnut’s Dr. John Watson will rise again — although he’ll now be forced to face demons from his past.
In a statement paired with the casting announcement, Watson executive producer and showrunner, Craig Sweeny, said:

Sherlock Holmes is finally coming to Watson, and the actor playing the iconic character should look familiar. The CBS medical drama TV series follows Dr. John Watson (played by Morris Chestnut) from Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. As such, many expected Sherlock to appear in the show one day, and that time will evidently come in season 2.
CBS has cast Robert Carlyle to play Sherlock Holmes in Watson season 2 (according to a report from Variety). Carlyle is set to recur in a guest-starring role as the famous detective in the upcoming episodes. However, it remains unclear when Sherlock will arrive, whether the premiere introduces Carlyle's character, or if he appears later. Regarding Carlyle's casting, showrunner Craig Sweeny said:

“When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”
So said Sherlock Holmes about the logical method of deduction the fictional detective used to solve his mysteries.
Now, real-life contestants will be tasked with following in Holmes’ footsteps as Banijay-backed Remarkable Entertainment is developing a reality competition under the working title Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock: The Detective Academy.
Remarkable has struck an exclusive deal with The Arthur Conan Doyle estate to develop the format. The indie didn’t divulge much info about the show beyond saying it will “test players’ powers of deduction and logic as they attempt to solve puzzling crimes from the world of Sherlock Holmes.” The show will now be taken out to UK broadcasters and the international market.
Remarkable bosses Tamara Gilder and Cat Lawson said the partnership with the estate “opens the door to a rich universe of iconic IP.

As co-founder of the esteemed Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki has worked on amazing anime and movies alike during his tenure, but one underrated success is getting access to a much larger screen. Sherlock Hound will be premiering in Japan’s theatres in the fall, and feature additional events to promote the series with former crew members.
Originally having aired in 1984, Sherlock Hound is a retelling of the Sherlock Holmes novel by Arthur Conan Doyle, featuring anthropomorphic dogs as the characters within this classic series. Miyazaki worked on approximately six to eight episodes before disputes with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s estate led to a short hiatus, forcing his attention to new projects.

Sherlock fans will be celebrating the show's 15th anniversary when it arrives on July 25, but the show's co-creator Mark Gatiss won't. He doesn't see it as worth recognizing -- even as he's revealed his pick for the best Sherlock episode of all time.
"15 [years] is not an anniversary," Gatiss told the Radio Times in a recent interview. "You see this persistently online. It's like, ‘Oh, it’s a year ago today’, and you're going, ‘Let it go!’ Or, ‘It's the 17th anniversary’. It's not a real thing." Yet the actor, writer and producer -- who also played Mycroft Holmes in the BBC hit -- was much more excited about his favorite episode.
Gatiss pointed to the Series 2 premiere "A Scandal in Belgravia," written by his co-creator Steven Moffat and directed by Alex McGuigan. "The best episode... is definitely 'A Scandal in Belgravia', which is fantastic," he said. "I think [it] is a...

When it comes to fandoms, there was once few stronger than that of Sherlock. The BBC series helmed by the duo of Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, which saw Benedict Cumberbatch star as a modern-day Sherlock Holmes, was once one of the most popular shows in the world, thanks to a mixture of intelligent writing, star-making performances, and high-tech camera work, at least for an early 2010s BBC budget.
Despite the show ending in disarray eight years ago, with many seeing the final season as a frustrating disservice to the genius that came before it, Sherlock is still a major part of millions of lives and is a consistent talking point in online forums. One question that is always posed in such discussions refers to which episode of Sherlock is the best, with many often disagreeing with a range of answers. Good news, Sherlock Holmes fans! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's trusty assistant will be returning to the airwaves a bit sooner than expected. Although the Morris Chestnut-led Watson was originally planned to return sometime during midseason, Deadline reports that the medical drama's sophomore outing has been moved by CBS to the fall. This will now put the series on a typical broadcast schedule, though it's a mystery when it will premiere. The news coincided with a delay to the Tom Ellis-led FBI spin-off CIA, meaning it could potentially occupy the Monday 10 p.m. time slot, or move to another spot in a scheduling change once the network announces its fall premiere dates.
Watson's return to the fall schedule is quite the twist, considering CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach had personally commented about its absence. Back in May, the series was in an awkward spot with a crowded lineup ahead...

Morris Chestnut's medical mystery series, Watson, set in the world of Sherlock Holmes, clearly has a lot of potential. The medical drama has been renewed for a second season, after a fairly successful first season. Season 1 of Watson ended with the villain Moriarty dead. The series was creative with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s canon, relying on Chestnut's Watson, close confidant of a yet-to-be-seen and believed-to-be-dead Sherlock Holmes. Randall Park plays the villain Moriarty, and with him out of the way now, could that be the last of the character we see?

The CW's top-rated show, Sherlock & Daughter, has just received a big boost. Debuting on The CW in April, the adaptation of the iconic Arthur Conan Doyle character sees the well-known detective team up with a young woman to unravel a conspiracy. But as they work together, there's also the more personal question of whether he is her father.
Created by Brendan Foley, with James Duff as showrunner, Sherlock & Daughter is led by David Thewlis (Fargo) and Blu Hunt (The New Mutants). It has found an audience on broadcast television, ranking as the CW's top show. It also performed well on HBO Max in the U.S., remaining in the Top 10.
Varietyreports that Sherlock & Daughter has sold to a number of international markets. This includes Sky Italia in Italy, Bell Media in Canada, Rts in Switzerland, Nova in Greece, Disney in the Balkans, Tivibu in Turkey, and TV3 Goup in the Baltics.

Netflix’s The Residence may be a modern-day murder mystery, but it’s filled with old-school surprises. Yes, it includes a Sherlock Holmes reference that predates even the most famous versions of the legendary detective. Forget Benedict Cumberbatch’s slick BBC portrayal, this one reaches back to 1892.
The Residence takes viewers inside the White House murder investigation led by a detective named Cordelia Cupp. But beyond the whodunit mystery, it’s the show’s literary Easter eggs that truly reward attentive fans. Episode 7, in particular, references one of Arthur Conan Doyle’s lesser-known but thrilling Holmes tales.

Fans hoping for another trip to the Mind Palace, or Baker Street, on Sherlock may want to look elsewhere — co-creator and actor Mark Gatiss has officially closed the door on any future revival or recasting of the iconic BBC series. The series, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch as a modern-day Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson, ran for four seasons and a Christmas special between 2010 and 2017.
Speaking to Collider’s Therese Lacson in a recent interview for his new project Bookish, at the Italian Global Series Festival, Gatiss addressed the lingering question on every Sherlockian’s mind: Could there ever be a reboot, reimagining, or revival with a new cast? His answer was clear, heartfelt, and final. Brace yourselves, folks.
“No. We had our go, and we struck gold with Benedict and Martin. I mean, there’s no…what would be the point? You’d just be doing it again.

"Steven Spielberg Presents" signaled something to moviegoers and TV watchers of all ages in the 1980s and 990s. It meant what we were about to watch bore the highest designation a movie could receive: Steven Spielberg's cinematic stamp of approval. After all, this was the guy who terrified us with "Jaws," inspired us with "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," put us at the edge of our seats with "Raiders of the Lost Ark," and made us cry tears of delight at "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial," among other incredible feature films. Sure, he also bored most of us to tears with "1941," but you may feel differently about it. Point is, the dude knew how to make a crowd-pleasing movie better than anyone back in the day, so if Spielberg was willing to present something, you knew it had to be good.

It has been almost a decade since the Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman series Sherlock came to an end its fourth season in 2017. Since then, there have been several hopeful teases of a possible return of Arthur Conan Doyle’s genius detective, but series co-creator Mark Gatiss has seemingly turned Moriarty and struck a killer blow to the chances of the series returning to screens for new episodes.
Sherlock debuted in 2010, bringing a modern take on the Baker Street sleuth to the small screen in the form of Cumberbatch’s incredible performance. Assisted by Freeman’s John Watson, and coming up against a formidable and enthralling villain in Andrew Scott’s James Moriarty, the adventures of Holmes in the series took familiar beats and storylines from Conan Doyle’s stories and recontextualized them in a modern-day setting.

Sherlock fans, look away now. The British super-sleuth won’t be taking on new cases any time soon.
Speaking at the Italian Global Series Festival (Igsf), Sherlock creator Mark Gatiss was downbeat on the prospects of a return for the BBC show either for TV or as a film, saying: “Going back is often very difficult.”
Hopes for a new season or film had increased after Sue Vertue from the BBC’s producer, Hartswood Films, last year told Deadline there was a “future” for it, provided stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman would agree to a return.
However, when asked today why another season had not been produced, Gatiss replied: “Because Benedict and Martin didn’t want to do any more.”

We laugh and jump at comedies and horror films, but generally speaking, a movie tells its story, and we move on whether indifferent or moved by the experience. Mysteries are a bit different, though, in that they're actively engaging viewers to follow along, form theories, and maybe even jump ahead of the characters when it comes to solving the question of who did what with the candlestick in the kitchen.
The best mysteries, of course, give viewers enough rope to play around with while still managing to surprise, thrill, and entertain even beyond the final reveal. They're about more than simply solving the crime as the characters and journey take hold on the way to that truth. Some are suspenseful, some are good fun, but all of them should leave you satisfied as the pieces come together and the end credits roll.

Netflix is joining forces with Legendary Entertainment to breathe new life into the beloved 1970s sci-fi adventure series Land of the Lost, according to a report from Deadline.
The reboot is still in the early stages of development, with the studios currently searching for writers to shape the new vision.
Originally debuting in 1974, Land of the Lost quickly carved out a unique space in the landscape of classic science fiction television.
The series followed the Marshall family, father Rick and his two children, Will and Holly, whose peaceful white-water rafting trip takes a shocking turn when an earthquake sends them tumbling into a bizarre, prehistoric realm.

Watson is far from the first TV show to explore the iconic characters of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with a modern twist. In fact, it’s not even the first one on CBS. Before the current drama, returning in 2026 for its second season, starring Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson, Elementary starred Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu as Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson, respectively. Craig Sweeny, who created Watson, was an executive producer on Elementary. So could there ever be any type of crossover, even if it’s just casting, between the two? Morris Chestnut is all for Lucy Liu appearing on Watson. “I’m trying to track her down and get her to come on our show because, yes, that would be great if we could get her,” he told Deadline. Sean Connery starred in a superhero movie unlike any other back in 2003. Now, 22 years later, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is heading to streaming.
Beginning July 1, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will be available to stream on Hulu. Distributed by 20th Century Fox in 2003, the steampunk superhero movie is based on the first volume of the eponymous comic book series by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill, which is set in a universe where all the characters and events from Victorian literature coexist, with Connery starring as Allan Quatermain, the protagonist of H. Rider Haggard's 1885 novel King Solomon's Mines. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was directed by Stephen Norrington, who is perhaps best known for helming the first Blade movie starring Wesley Snipes.
Joining Connery's Allan Quatermain as part of the titular team are Bram Stoker's vampiress Mina Harker, H. G. Wells' the Invisible Man, Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr.

Star Trek: Tng had plenty of great antagonists, even if the primary mission of the Enterprise was interplanetary diplomacy. Though Gene Roddenberry had banned Vulcans from being the primary villains in the show, the makers came up with new antagonists that were worthy adversaries, such as the Borg and, of course, Q.
However, there is one villain who is not native to the Star Trek franchise but is still one of the show’s best villains. Professor James Moriarty, who was first seen in Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories, was created as a holodeck villain in Tng. He quickly became sentient and attempted to take over the Enterprise multiple times.

No matter the culture or time period, it really does feel like crime shows have made up the backbone of scripted television since the medium's launch. From "Dragnet" to "The Rockford Files," crime series have a long, prolific history, with the genre only growing more nuanced and complex over time. These shows have produced some of the most iconic characters ever to grace a television screen, as well as some of the longest-running series of all time. And while the sheer breadth of crime shows make it harder to narrow down, there are some series that clearly rise above the rest in the genre.
Crime shows can range from case-of-the-week police procedurals to character-driven thrillers and neo-Westerns. Simply put, there is a lot you can do within the crime genre, especially given the countless number of shows within it. Often, the best crime shows either push the boundaries or breathe...

Another series adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories has come to an end... possibly for good. On June 11, The CW aired the Season 1 finale of Sherlock & Daughter and has yet to renew the period drama for a second season despite the series creator knowing where to take the title characters next.
Speaking with Variety at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, series creator and writer Brendan Foley revealed that they would "like to take it international" for the second season of Sherlock & Daughter. Having completed three full weeks of release, Paramount's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning celebrated a major achievement recently. The mega-budget action film passed the coveted $500 million mark at the worldwide box office, as it aims to clear the unreasonably high bar for success that it has set for itself. Purportedly the final film of the long-running franchise, The Final Reckoning cost a reported $400 million to produce, which means that it needs to gross around twice that amount to break even. It will eventually need to surpass the $791 million haul of Mission: Impossible - Fallout, the franchise's top-grossing film. Among the many movies that The Final Reckoning overtook this past weekend was the only successful franchise-starter that Guy Ritchie has ever directed.

Sherlock Holmes and all things concerning the iconic detective seem to be the flavor of the moment. The prospective Young Sherlock series, led by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Morris Chestnut's Watson highlight the surging interest in the character once more. The CW released a hotly-anticipated new mystery series, Sherlock & Daughter, on April 16 as part of this new wave of adaptations of the character developed by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The show takes on a unique approach to Sherlock Holmes, who is played by David Thewlis, as it saddles him with a young, clever woman, (who might well be his daughter), who is gifted with getting on his nerves. The first season was mapped out for eight episodes, with the season finale airing on June 11. So, will there be a second season of the drama mystery?
At the time of this writing, Sherlock & Daughter had not been greenlit for a second season.

Books and TV shows have had a special relationship for over a century now. There have been countless TV adaptations of popular books, and even if we count this year (which isn’t over), there have been over seven or eight. Morris Chestnut said Watson follows Sherlock Holmes canon, hinting at a major character reveal in Season 2. The show is set in the aftermath of Holmes’ death, but those who’ve read the stories know that Holmes survived that fall.
CBS reimagined the Sherlock Holmes lore by expanding Dr. John Watson’s storyline. Watson is a unique spin on medical procedurals, featuring familiar, modern-day versions of characters, with Morris Chestnut in the titular role. Sherlock Holmes doesn’t appear in the show because it takes place a year after his apparent death; Watson has resumed his medical practice and moved on. Speaking to Deadline, Chestnut teased that Holmes could appear in the flesh in the (now-confirmed) second season.
“I will say Holmes, you know, in the mythology, does come back… and we are part of the mythology,” he explained, referring to The Return of Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Morris Chestnut read some of Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Sherlock Holmes stories before starring in “Watson,” created by Craig Sweeny. But there’s power in reclaiming iconic characters, he states.
Previously, Sweeny was an executive producer and writer on “Elementary,” which starred Lucy Liu as Watson.
“It can be political. We are in times where things that normally wouldn’t be political have turned political. You can’t ignore that. It was ambitious to do everything we’ve done on this show, and I’m glad we never steered away from anything. We jumped right in,” he says.

Sherlock Holmes is inarguably the defining detective of the murder mystery genre, with Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal of the character in the BBC series Sherlock being well-received. However, for all its positives, the series’ characterization of Sherlock has been questioned by several fans.
Meanwhile, Netflix’s Dept Q takes much of the Sherlock formula but places it within the constraints of working in a rigid police system.
