Love on the Danube: Love Song Review: A Voyage into the Comfort Zone
Image
A European river cruise is less a vacation and more a cultural artifact. It represents a specific kind of American pilgrimage, a journey back to an Old World that exists now mostly in the imagination, promising a temporary escape from the relentless newness of the present.

Love on the Danube: Love Song floats directly into this stream of consciousness, presenting a ship gliding through the historical heart of the former Habsburg Empire as a stage for modern romantic negotiation. We meet Sarah (Nazneen Contractor), a woman so tethered to her professional obligations that her phone appears as a biological extension.

She embodies the contemporary crisis of perpetual productivity. Her foil is Jack (Wes Brown), a man who advocates for the radical act of simply being. They are, of course, on this floating sanctuary with their widowed parents, setting the scene for a multi-generational examination of connection in a place meticulously designed for it.

Image
Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) entered her leading lady era in Season 3 of Bridgerton and she needed to look the part.

"It's like with everything: How can we develop this character?" makeup and hair designer Erika Ökvist tells Gold Derby during our Meet the Experts: Makeup and Hair panel. "Because it's now their time. We started off with Penelope [in Season 1], maybe her hair wasn't flattering for her face. Maybe her clothes [weren't] flattering for her body. Season 2, she does what we all do as a teenager: Try out a couple of new things. Some things work, some things didn't."

In Season 3, Penelope initially thinks she'll never be with Colin (Luke Newton) until she gets some advice from Madame Delacroix (Kathryn Drysdale), realizing that she doesn't need to be anybody else but herself to be with the love of her life. "And when she then finds herself, she also finds her look because she feels confident in herself,...

The Divisive Doctor Who Episode That Captures Everything Great About the Russell T Davies Era

“You dabbled with aliens,” declares creature that had been posing as an alien hunter named Victor Kennedy. “Now meet the genuine article.”

It’s hard to put into words just how upsetting that genuine article is. Unsightly grey flesh drips from his shoulders and head, so that he resembles more a sentient glob of moldy yogurt than an actual person. Comedian Peter Kay makes his character even more upsetting by bearing his teeth and sticking out his tongue. And that’s before revealing that the faces of his victims protrude from his body still screaming for help, including a character noted for her sweetness stuck to his bottom.

10 Doctor Who Characters Who Deserved Better Fates
Image
In the British sci-fi series Doctor Who, the Doctor meets many people on their adventures throughout time and space. Unfortunately, not all of them survive the enemies they encounter whenever they step out of the Tardis. After all, Daleks and Cybermen and the Master don't care who ends up collateral damage. Still, many fan-favorite characters have died senseless deaths at their hands, or at the hands of things even worse.

Doctor Who has a habit of giving viewers very sympathetic and likeable characters and then killing them off just as audiences have fully embraced them. This raises the stakes for Doctor Who fans, but it sometimes results in characters (particularly female characters) being killed in order to further the Doctor's storyline and make them sad. Many of these characters got meaningful deaths, but there's no denying that too often their deaths were more about the Doctor, or his companions or enemies,...

Bridgerton Mirror Scene Explained By Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton
Image
In Season 3, Penelope and Colin see each other more clearly than any mirror.

Bridgerton Season 3 star Nicola Coughlan was “completely and utterly terrified” about filming Penelope Featherington’s first kiss with longtime crush Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). It’s also Penelope’s first kiss ever. “I felt like a teenager,” she tells Tudum. “I felt like when I was about to have my real-life first kiss. That didn’t happen on-screen, which I’m really glad of.”

She and Newton, her co-star and friend, practiced the Episode 2 smooch with intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot ahead of filming. “[The stress] just had been building up,” Coughlan says. “We’d known for four years that we were getting to this point … [I was like,] ‘What if I’m a horrible kisser?’ ”

But, as Bridgertonfans know, Coughlan had nothing to worry about. In fact, Kathryn Drysdale, who portrays Mayfair modiste Genevieve Delacroix, heaped the highest praise...

At the end of Bridgerton season 1, Nicola Coughlan's Penelope is revealed to be the writer behind the Lady Whistledown scandal sheet. Set during the Regency Era in London, Bridgerton's infamous Lady Whistledown scandal sheet is representative of real-life columns that often appeared in newspapers and published gossip about the upper classes. No One Can Stop Screaming at ‘Bridgerton’ Part 2 Premiere Event in London
Image
Editor’s note: This post contains spoilers from Season 3, Episode 5 of “Bridgerton.”

To no one’s surprise and everyone’s delight, the first song that played on the red carpet for the “Bridgerton” Season 3 – Part 2 premiere in London June 12 was the orchestral cover of Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything.”

Back on May 16, the Regency romance closed out Season 3 Part 1 by underscoring Season 3 leads Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton’s climactic carriage scene with a string arrangement of Mr. Worldwide’s 2011 dance floor banger. Once the song ended, so began the wait for Part 2 amid an inexorable cycle of rewatching, dissecting, lusting, longing and scrolling — a self-inflicted torture that fans could not, would not and did not want to give up.

Flash forward to Wednesday, when some of Netflix’s dearest gentle viewers convened at the Leicester Square Odeon for an early screening of Episode 5 taking place just hours before the...

New first-look images from ‘Bridgerton’ season 3 drop
Image
Netflix has debuted a new batch of first-look images of Penelope and Colin’s budding romance in season 3 of ‘Bridgerton.’

Season 3 will be based on ‘Romancing Mister Bridgerton,’ the fourth book in Julia Quinn’s series. The third season finds Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) finally giving up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.

But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly. Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder.

The third season of the hit Shondaland series will have a new showrunner, with Jess Brownell taking over from creator Chris Van Dusen, and will focus on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) for what is sure to be the will-they-won’t-they romance talk of the ton. ‘Bridgerton’ Author Julia Quinn Supports Season 3 Skipping Benedict Love Story for Colin and Penelope
Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton in Bridgerton (2020)
“Bridgerton” author Julia Quinn encourages fans to look at the bright side of Benedict’s love story being pushed back for Colin and Penelope’s in the next season.

Season 3 of the Netflix drama series will adapt the fourth book in Quinn’s series, “Romancing Mister Bridgerton” which features Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlin) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) instead of the storyline from the third book, “An Offer from a Gentleman.”

“I think they had just felt they had laid down so much groundwork because we already know Penelope,” Quinn told Business Insider of the shift in narrative.

Royal Family Parody Show ‘The Windsors’ Set for a Fourth Season
Image
King Charles might want to look away. “The Windsors” – Channel 4’s satirical comedy series about the British royal family – is returning for a fourth season, with comedian Harry Enfield set to reprise his role as the hapless Charles.

Variety understands work got underway on a fourth season last May but the creative team were sidetracked by the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September and her son Prince Charles’s succession to the throne. “The Windsors” team are set to mark Charles’s coronation next month with a feature-length special, which recently wrapped.

A rep for Channel 4 said a fourth season hadn’t yet been confirmed but Variety understands that the team are planning to start shooting later this year or early 2024. And while the show will not feature the latest generation of royals, which include William and Kate’s children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, some...

King Charles’ Coronation to Get Royal Parody on Harry Enfield Comedy ‘The Windsors’
Image
As if King Charles III didn’t already have enough drama in his life, between his logorrheic son Prince Harry and disgraced brother Prince Andrew, comedian Harry Enfield is set to unleash a little more chaos ahead of the coronation in May.

Enfield’s Channel 4 comedy “The Windsors” is returning for a coronation special, with the comedian set to reprise his role as the monarch.

“Charles’ whole life has been building up to this moment and he wants the U.K.’s first coronation in seventy years to be a spectacular affair with all the pomp and circumstance he deserves,” reads the logline. “As does his Queen Consort Camilla (Haydn Gwynne), who can’t wait to drape herself in diamonds and fur. Sadly, the U.K. is in the middle of a cost of living crisis and Wills (Hugh Skinner) thinks the coronation should reflect these more straitened times.”

Bridgerton Season 2: First Trailer Teases New Love Story, Premiere Date
Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton in Bridgerton (2020)
Netflix's biggest series ever is closing in on a comeback.

The streamer on Saturday dropped a first-look at Bridgerton Season 2, and it's everything we hoped it would be.

Simone Ashley (Sex Education) was announced as the female lead for the second season, to star opposite Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton).

The first teaser shows Anthony meeting with Ashley's character, and the latter is less than thrilled with Anthony's comments on his future wife.

Yes, Anthony has some high demands, and yes, there's going to be a lot of sudsy drama.

It will be fun to see this new love story take place, and it looks very different from Daphne and Simon's road to love in the first season, which is very good in our book.

Charithra Chandran, Shelley Conn (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Calam Lynch, and Rupert Young (The White Queen) have also been added to the cast in...

Bridgerton Season 2 Suffers Another Huge Setback
Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton in Bridgerton (2020)
Production on Bridgerton Season 2 is not going smoothly.

The Netflix juggernaut has been shut down for the second time in a week due to another positive Covid test.

Deadline first reported the news, while also confirming that there is no definite return to production.

The series was first shut down on Thursday for 24 hours after a crew member tested positive, but it was brought to a halt again on Friday due to another positive test.

The indefinite hiatus is concerning because it could suggest that a cast member tested positive for Covid-19.

Bridgerton burst onto screens in December and quickly became a huge success for Netflix, going on to snag a three-season renewal and an order for a spinoff.

Netflix declared Bridgerton to be a success story by saying it was watched by a record 82 million Netflix households around the world and towered above the streamer's other offerings.

Bridgerton Season 2 Spoilers: How Will it Address Regé-Jean Page's Exit?
Regé-Jean Page
Regé-Jean Page may not be a part of the Bridgerton Season 2 cast, but Simon Basset will not be forgotten.

Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne on the Netflix hit, has opened up about how Page's exit will impact the second season.

As you will recall, Daphne and Simon were very much together at the close of Bridgerton Season 1, with the pair welcoming a newborn son into the world.

"I think he'll definitely be referred to a lot," the actress explained in a chat with The Wrap.

"I think we'll see the baby. And we'll just focus more on [Daphne's] relationship with the Bridgerton Family."

As previously reported, Bridgerton Season 2 will focus on Anthony Bridgerton's search for love.

"It's definitely different," Dynevor said of the sophomore run.

"And I've said it before, but I think the fans who have read the books and know the books are aware that every season will focus on a different sibling's journey.
