Exclusive: Prime Video is developing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, based on the Crane-Iron Pentalogy book series by Wang Dulu. The drama comes from writer/executive producer Jason Ning, executive producer Ron Moore and Sony Pictures Television where both are under overall deals.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was famously adapted by Ang Lee into his Oscar-winning movie, which incorporated elements from other books in the Crane-Iron series. The film is part of Sony’s library as it was produced and distributed by the studio.

7 Worst Video Games Based on Movies
When a new movie is a big hit at the box office, game studios everywhere can’t wait to cash in on it by giving fans control of the main characters in an accompanying videogame. Sometimes the result can be great, like multiplayer classic GoldenEye 007 for the N64, or the platforming perfection of Disney’s Aladdin on the Sega Genesis. For this list, we’re looking at the worst games ever made, based on movies. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon In the year 2000, Ang Lee’s seminal wuxia-revival movie was released (itself an adaptation of the fourth novel in the Crane Iron Pentalogy by Wang Dulu) and become an undeniable classic. Known for its powerful yet graceful martial arts choreography broken up by its mixture of dark, somber and romantic moments, the movie is every bit as thrilling as it is beautiful. You would think the combination of cinematic beauty and...

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny Review
With hits like Wet Hot American Summer and Arrested Development, Netflix has been riding high on nostalgic rebooting, but Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny shows a more vulnerable side to the streaming service’s original content (we’ll save Fuller House for the TV section). What once was a whimsical callback to acrobatic martial arts has become a repetitive, stone-etched journey that’s heavy on outdated pageantry, and light on mystical amazement.

Still based on Du Lu Wang’s source novelization (in theory), Woo-Ping Yuen steps in to direct a screenplay by John Fusco, but with Ang Lee nowhere to be found, ancient folklore becomes weightless, cut-and-dry whispers. This is a film built on patience and grace, which, unfortunately, are the two most mishandled aspects of Woo-Ping’s fifteen-years-later sequel.

Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Yu Shu Lien, who once again finds herself ensnared in a...

The Crouching Tiger […]

The Definitive Best Picture Losers
30. Apollo 13 (1995)

Lost to: Braveheart

In 1995, director Ron Howard brought a true life story of hope in the face of peril and started sweeping up awards. He won the Directors Guild Award. He won the Producers Guild Award. He won the Screen Actors Guild Ensemble Award. He lost the Golden Globe Drama to “Sense and Sensibility,” though he was nominated. Nothing could beat “Apollo 13.” Oscar night came and the Academy decided to hand the award to Mel Gibson’s historical epic about William Wallace, whose only precursor award was a surprise directing win at the Golden Globes. I’m not saying “Apollo 13″ is a greater film than “Braveheart.” It’s just proof that even the mighty may fall if a charismatic actor/director is at the helm.

29. L.A. Confidential (1997)

Lost to: Titanic

Curtis Hanson’s neo noir wasn’t the only quality loser from 1997 (“Good Will Hunting,...

Weinstein Co. sues Col over 'Tiger' author
The Weinstein Co. is suing Columbia Pictures over the rights to a series of five books authored by Wang Du Lu, including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, seeks a declaration from the court that the Weinstein Co. holds the option rights to the books. Plaintiffs attorney Bert Fields said his clients entered into a written agreement with Wang's heirs Dec. 12, giving them an option to acquire the movie, television, publishing and other rights of the books. The agreement was signed on behalf of the heirs by Hong Wang, who was authorized to represent them in such deals.
