These 10 Apple TV+ Shows Are Criminally Underrated
Image
When you purchase through our links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

Apple TV+ is still relatively new in the streaming industry, and despite having made a name for themselves by producing quality content that people talk about to no end, the Apple-owned streaming service has produced some shows that don’t get talked about much, but not because they are bad, but because they are overlooked. On one hand, Apple TV+ has produced extremely popular shows like Ted Lasso and Severance; on the other hand, it has brilliant but nowhere near as popular shows like Drops of God and Slow Horses. That’s why we decided to compile a list of all the brilliant shows that have been overlooked by the masses.

Fiona Shaw was ‘scared’ to join tight-knit ‘Bad Sisters’ cast but ‘they were so welcoming I never wanted to leave them’
Image
Warning: This story contains spoilers from Season 1 of Bad Sisters

For Fiona Shaw, joining the tight-knit cast of Bad Sisters for its second season on Apple TV+ brought some initial anxiety — but that quickly faded thanks to the show's “generous” cast.

“I was scared,” the Emmy- and Tony Award-nominated actress told Gold Derby on the red carpet at the show’s FYC event Saturday at the Hollywood Athletic Club. But “they all said, ‘Come out to dinner with us. Be with us.’ And they were so welcoming that I never wanted to leave them. I wanted to become an honorary ‘bad sister.’”

Shaw plays Angelica Muldoon in the dark comedy about five Irish sisters. The first season, adapted from the 2012 Belgian series Clan, was developed by executive producer and actress Sharon Horgan, who also stars as eldest sister Eva.

The second season, which Horgan expanded beyond the original source material,...

The show is a six-part drama out of Belgium starring Peter Van den Begin and Elise Schaap about a man with a peculiar eating disorder that makes him a potentially tasty aid to police – he can see the final moments of whatever he puts in his mouth.

Federation Studios recently picked up international sales rights to the finished tape, but Gozin, Baer and Finkel are eyeing an English-language remake, akin to Bad Sisters.

This New BBC Thriller Stuns With Groundbreaking Deaf Representation & A 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score – Watch It Now!
Image
A New BBC Thriller Is Winning Over Viewers!(Photo Credit –BBC)

There’s a fresh buzz shaking up British television, and its name is Reunion. This four-part BBC thriller isn’t just riding the wave of topical conversation. It’s rewriting the playbook entirely. With one foot planted in gripping, emotionally charged storytelling and the other firmly rooted in pushing the boundaries of representation, Reunion is doing more than entertaining. It’s making space.

Representation That Goes Beyond The Surface

What sets Reunion apart isn’t just the plot, though it is compelling. At its center is Daniel Brennan, a deaf man re-entering a world that has all but erased him after ten years in prison. With his community estranged and support systems shattered, Brennan’s quest for redemption or revenge pulls viewers into a narrative that’s as personal as it is thrilling. Matthew Gurney’s performance in this...

This Brand-New British Thriller Series Has Earned a Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
There's been plenty of topical discourse surrounding the latest BBC drama, Reunion. A brand-new four-part thriller, Reunion has one eye on delivering emotionally-packed entertainment and the other on representation within the industry. Poignantly, the show is made using Bsl (British Sign Language) and is one of the only shows on television to feature a deaf actor in the lead role, Matthew Gurney, alongside other deaf performers.

Written by William Mager and directed by Luke Snellin, the show perhaps transcends any critical feedback it could receive as something vitally important for the current industry. However, its critical success should still be celebrated, with the series already earning a huge early milestone. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, albeit from a small number of reviews to date, Reunion has already achieved a coveted perfect 100% rating. So far, many have celebrated the series for its ensemble performances, especially from the lead, Gurney, who truly...

Anne-Marie Duff Celebrates Reunion’s BBC Broadcast: ‘TV Is Quite an Expensive Hobby’
Anne-Marie Duff
Anne-Marie Duff is excited that her new project, the revenge thriller Reunion, will be airing on BBC One and available on iPlayer rather than a streaming platform. The series, which highlights the deaf community, will reach a broad audience, not just those who can afford streaming subscriptions.

Duff, who stars as Christine Mokhar, emphasized how important it is to have the series on a public broadcaster. “It’s the BBC, so you know, it’s going to be seen by everyone, not just people who can afford to pay streaming fees,” she said. “Watching TV has become quite an expensive hobby now. And just the idea, always and ever, that what we do can be important and that there’s a point to it, and anyone who feels marginalized gets to see themselves is a huge relief.”

“It’s the BBC, so you know, it’s going to be seen by everyone, not just people who can afford to pay streaming fees. That’s important because watching TV has become quite an expensive hobby now. BBC Revenge Thriller ‘Reunion’ Says ‘What It Means to Be a Deaf Person From the Point of View of a Deaf Person’
Image
Written and produced by deaf creator William Mager, Series Mania premiere “Reunion” never leaves its lead’s side.

“I’ve seen stories of deaf characters told from a hearing person’s point of view. This show says what it means to be a deaf person from the point of view of a deaf person,” says Luke Snellin, who directed the series.

“What is it like to sit in front of a probation officer, explaining you’re deaf? We would take the sound away or put the camera behind his head and over his ear – precisely to put the audience in his shoes.”

Mager adds: “When you are deaf, communication is difficult anyway. But it’s also difficult to talk about things that happened to you, things that are hard to process. It can be hard to open up.”

Especially for his tortured protagonist, played by Matthew Gurney: fresh out...

‘Reunion’: Warp Films’ Deaf-Led Revenge Thriller Breaks New Ground At Series Mania
Image
Reunion is a revenge drama about a deaf man determined to right his wrongs and it breaks new ground for a mainstream drama with its cast and crew and bilingual mix of spoken English and British Sign Language.

Writer William Mager tells Deadline the show “starts as a typical thriller, but by the end it’s morphed into something much more emotional, much more personal.” The Sheffield-born deaf writer adds that the elements relating to the deaf character and community were “easy to write, because you’re writing your own truth.”

Playing in the International Panorama section at Series Mania, the drama follows Daniel Brennan (Matthew Gurney), a deaf man released from prison, and trying to find out about the events that led to his incarceration.

Speaking the morning after the world premiere, Mager and director Luke Snellin explained the inspiration for the series included classic revenge thrillers from the 1970s as well as westerns,...

Best Interests Review: Acorn TV Drama Isn't For the Faint of Heart
Image
The following contains light spoilers for Best Interests, debuting Feb. 17, 2025 on Acorn TV.

Best Interests may be the most emotional TV show of the year. The miniseries originally premiered on British television in 2023, but is now making its U.S. premiere on Acorn TV, and it's easy to see why the streamer picked it up. With the star power of Bad Sisters' Sharon Horgan and Good Omens actor Michael Sheen, audiences will be pulled into this family drama -- even if they might not necessarily make it through all four episodes.

The miniseries centers around Nicci and Andrew, whose world changes when their younger daughter Marnie is diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. Years later, Marnie experiences a severe chest infection that leaves her intubated and leads doctors to conclude that further treatment would do more harm than good. Andrew and Nicci embark on a battle to fight for their child's life,...

Bad Sisters Season 3 & Possible New Continuation Gets Detailed Explanation From Creator
Image
This article contains major spoilers for Bad Sisters season 2.

Bad Sisters season 3, and a different way to continue the dark comedy, gets a detailed response from co-creator and star Sharon Horgan. Based on the Irish series Clan, the Apple TV+ Original recently closed out its second installment with a tragic death that nonetheless allowed for a sense of closure for the story that the series had been working to tell for 18 episodes. Horgan, who plays Eva Garvey, previously struck a doubtful tone when asked about Bad Sisters season 3. But she sounds more optimistic about heading in a new direction for the story.

In recent comments to Bustle, Horgan was asked about a continuation or spinoff that would focus on Blánaid "Bla" Williams (Saise Quinn) — the daughter of Grace and John Paul, who is now an orphan. Horgan, who created the Apple TV+ show with Dave Finkel and Brett Baer, confessed...

The seven-episode follow-up features a two-year time jump, with viewers following Seong Gi-hun (Emmy winner Lee Jung-jae) in the wake of the deadly battle royale that pits hundreds of desperate individuals against one another for enormous sums of money. Unable to simply walk away with his hard-earned winnings, he embarks on a mission to take down the diabolical minds behind the murderous game at all costs. Bad Sisters Season 3 Gets Doubtful Response From Star
Image
Bad Sisters season 3 gets a doubtful response from star and co-creator Sharon Horgan. Developed by Horgan, Dave Finkel, and Brett Baer, the story takes place in Dublin. It focuses on Eva Garvey (Horgan) and her sisters as they find themselves right in the middle of a life insurance investigation following the mysterious death of her brother-in-law. Bad Sisters season 2 recently wrapped up its run on Apple TV+, showcasing what happens when the Garvey sisters get caught up in another dangerous situation.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter following the season 2 finale, along with executive producer Dearbhla Walsh, Horgan addressed the possibility of returning for another installment of the acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy. Horgan mentioned anthology dramas, such as HBO's The White Lotus and Netflix's Beef, but doubted that the Garveys could convincingly find themselves in another dangerous situation. Walsh agreed, joking about how many more people the main characters could kill.

‘Bad Sisters’ Creator Sharon Horgan Plans To Bring Julia May Jonas’ ‘Vladimir’ Adaptation To Screen
Image
Though the story of the Bad Sisters on Apple TV+ may be over following the Season 2 finale on Christmas Day, creator Sharon Horgan is already working on another project.

During an interview for Bustle’s “One Nightstand,” Horgan revealed her hopes to bring an adaptation of Vladimir by Julia May Jonas to the screen. Jonas sought out Horgan.

“I was making Bad Sisters and had no headspace whatsoever, and Julia hadn’t written a screenplay before… so it was sent to me as a sort of, ‘Is this something we could do together?’” Horgan told Bustle. “And I was like, ‘No, no, no, I just don’t have time.’ Then they said, ‘Just read the first chapter.’ So I read the first chapter and then I just made time.”

The book tells the story of a college professor who cultivates an obsession with a new faculty member on campus after...

‘Bad Sisters’ Creator Sharon Horgan on the True Villain of Season 2 and Season 3 Possibilities
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from Bad Sisters season one and the final episodes of season two]

Bad Sisters creator Sharon Horgan had what she calls “a germ of an idea” for the second season of the Apple+ series while in the midst of shooting season one.

That idea, as the final episodes of the second season reveal, revolved around Ian Reilly (Owen McDonnell), Grace’s ex-husband, and the idea that while Grace (Anne-Marie Duff) got some happiness after killing her cruel first husband, she couldn’t escape her own tragic cycle.

“Basically, I had that when I was on set for the first season, the sort of lightning striking twice idea and how vulnerable women like that who have been through an abusive relationship, don’t necessarily walk into a healthy one. They’re kind of open and vulnerable to people taking advantage,” Horgan tells The Hollywood Reporter.

In the season finale, the show finally...

'Bad Sisters' Season 2 Is Missing a Key Ingredient That Made Its First Season So Great
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Season 2 of Bad SistersThere are so many things about Bad Sisters that make it one of the best shows on television right now. There's the incredible writing and acting from Sharon Horgan, the chemistry between all five of the charismatic sisters, and the seamless blend of moving storylines with a bit of dark Irish humor. In Season 1, viewers are enveloped into the world of the Garveys, but they're also able to get to know two important supporting characters: Thomas (Brian Gleeson) and Matt Claffin (Daryl McCormack). The Claffin brothers are insurance investigators who are looking into the death of Grace's (Anne-Marie Duff) husband, and they become connected to the sisters in intriguing ways. Although Season 2 has had some fantastic twists and turns, the new detective characters are leaving something to be desired.

‘Bad Sisters’ Creator Sharon Horgan on Why That Season 2 Death Had to Happen
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the second and third episodes of Bad Sisters season two.]

The Bad Sisters fate of Grace, the eldest Garvey sister, in season two wasn’t an easy choice for creator and star Sharon Horgan.

The idea for her — spoiler alert! — death originated in the writers room, but was initially rejected for being too grim. Ultimately, her fate played out first in fragments at the end of episode two, when Grace gets into a car crash, and then expanded on in episode three, released on Wednesday, with Grace’s funeral.

“We had the idea about what would happen but then we dropped it, because we thought, ‘I don’t know if we can continue the tone of Bad Sisters with Grace dying.’ It felt too dark,” Horgan tells The Hollywood Reporter of the back and forth around Grace’s fate. “Then we ended up going back to it because we couldn’t really see a world where...

‘Bad Sisters’ Review: Sharon Horgan’s Drama Takes a ‘White Lotus’ Turn in Season 2
Image
Not everything needs a second season.

“Bad Sisters,” created by Sharon Horgan, Brett Baer, and Dave Finkel, and based on the Belgian series “Clan,” was one such series, neatly wrapping up the eponymous Garvey sisters’ story with ten episodes that premiered on Apple TV+ in 2022.

But of those many shows that should have left well enough alone, a rare few manage to pull off that second installment (if not more beyond that) with — if not resounding success, then aplomb. “Bad Sisters” didn’t need a second season, but Horgan and her team execute the near-impossible task of picking up, building out, and smartly continuing the story, even if Season 1 remains superior.

Season 2 catches up with the sisters — Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), Eva (Horgan), Ursula (Eva Birthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene), and Becka (Eve Hewson) — a few years after the other four planned to kill Grace’s husband, only for her to end up killing him herself.
