As with any new hit series, some promotions are in store for recurring characters, and the best one was just promoted.

Deadline reports that Casey W. Johnson, who plays Kit in the series, will be a series regular in Ransom Canyon season 2. Not only is Kit the troubled...

Netflix's Ransom Canyon Season 2 Promotes One Cast Member As Series Regular
Image
Netflix's romantic Western drama Ransom Canyon has promoted a cast member to series regular status for season 2. Based on the series of novels by Jodi Thomas, Ransom Canyon premiered on Netflix on April 17, 2025, and follows three ranching families as they battle for control of their lands and legacies, against a backdrop of romance, revenge, and recriminations.

In June 2025, Ransom Canyon season 2 was renewed by Netflix, with the show set to expand on its 10-episode first season. The cast of Ransom Canyon is headed up by Transformers star Josh Duhamel, opposite Minka Kelly in the female lead role, with a supporting cast including James Brolin, Jack Schumacher, and Lizzy Greene.

Per Deadline, the show has promoted recurring star Casey W. Johnson to a series regular role for Ransom Canyon season 2. Johnson had a recurring role as Kit Russell in season 1, a troubled man taking on a paternal role for his younger brother Lucas,...

How 'Josh Duhamel' Feels About the Possible Iconic 'Transformers' Crossover Movie
Image
The sheer quantity of Transformers films released thus far is evidence alone that the franchise has had a successful box office run in years past. Another batch of films, G.I. Joe and its spin-offs, were similarly spawned from beloved action figures years ago, though its ticket sales are no match for Optimus Prime and company. But G.I. Joe has its loyal fan base, especially when news broke that a potential crossover film between the two canons might be happening. Fans certainly didn't lose hope of the Transformers-G.I. Joe crossover after promising updates poured in as recently as last year, though its future now remains a bit uncertain as we're now more than halfway through 2025.

Nonetheless, there's still chatter among filmgoers, and MovieWeb recently had the chance to speak with one of the stars of multiple Transformers films, Josh Duhamel, to see if the longtime actor had any new intel on the potential project.

'Ransom Canyon' Star's Iconic Franchise-Starting Sci-Fi Film Is Quitely Dominating Streaming 23 Years Later
Image
The first Transformersmovie is making a surprise comeback on streaming. Josh Duhamel and Shia Labeouf’s 2007 action-packed blockbuster has climbed back into the Top 10 charts on Disney+ and Paramount+ in several countries, per FlixPatrol. This was the film that kicked off Michael Bay’s wild, explosion-filled franchise and introduced a whole new generation to Autobots and Decepticons.

Critics were lukewarm towards the film upon its release, reflected in its 57% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But audiences have always embraced the Transformers films, and this one holds a strong 85% audience score. Last week, Bay’s Transformers movies landed on Disney+ in select regions, and it looks like nostalgia is bringing them back into the spotlight. Streaming is full of big action franchises, but not many bring the kind of chaos and fun that Transformers does. The Disney+ lineup mostly sticks to Marvel and Star Wars, and those are great, but they come with homework.

Latest filming update is bad news for Ransom Canyon season 2
Image
There's some good news to share with Ransom Canyon fans, but there's also a bit of frustrating news that goes hand in hand. Following the successful release of the Western romantic drama series back in April, Netflix officially renewed season 2 in June. Thankfully, we now know when production will likely begin on the upcoming new season, and it's sooner than you think!

According to Deadline's initial report about the Ransom Canyon season 2 renewal, filming will begin again in Albuquerque, New Mexico in September 2025. What's on Netflix suggests cameras begin rolling on Sept. 17 and will wrap production in early 2026, which could be anywhere from January to sometime in February at the latest. After that, post-production begins.

Back in 2024, the first season began filming in February and wrapped in June, which accounted for about between four to five months of filming. That means, if Ransom Canyon season 2 begins filming in mid-September 2025, production...

Josh Duhamel is a hitman on the run with an unwanted apprentice in London Calling. The Ransom Canyon star is teaming up with It's Jeremy Ray Taylor in the action thriller, and Collider has a first look at the film's new poster art, which depicts the duo and their sweet ride against the sunny, palm tree-bedecked backdrop of Los Angeles; however, a Union Jack motif below them indicates the film's ultimate goal. When Is Ransom Canyon Season 2 Coming? Details Revealed
Image
FandomWire’s Ransom Canyon review places the series as a hearty neo-Western tale of love, land, and legacy. The show debuted on Netflix on April 17, 2025, and quietly became a sleeper hit, even ranking in the platform’s Top 10 in over 75 countries within days of its premiere.

This high-stakes tale of power struggles, unresolved love stories, and multi-layered characters took fans by surprise by proving its potential in the Western TV landscape. While initially, the show was compared to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, we believe it’s safe to say a separate fanbase has emerged, leading to Ransom Canyon’s renewal for Season 2. While a return to the dusty red cliffs has been confirmed, let’s get into when we can expect the show to hit our screens and what we can look forward to in Season 2.

Off the Grid Review: Greg Kinnear Steals a B-Movie Thriller
Image
The story of the individual who births a world-altering technology only to be hunted by its corporate parent is a foundational myth of our digital age. It’s the modern Prometheus story, except Zeus is a CEO with a venture capital fund and the eagle is a team of heavily armed mercenaries. Off the Grid wades directly into this narrative stream with a kind of gritty, unvarnished sincerity.

Our reluctant titan is Guy (a suitably grizzled Josh Duhamel), an engineer of apparently transcendent genius who has created… something revolutionary. He now lives a life of enforced techno-primitivism in the Tennessee backwoods, a man who built the future and then promptly ran screaming from it.

His former employer, the ominously named Belcor Industries, wants its paradigm-shifting intellectual property back, and Guy along with it. The company dispatches its hounds, believing no one can truly unplug from a world they are so intent on wiring.

Josh Duhamel Says He’s “Kind Of Flattered” To Be Joked About In ‘The Studio’ Even Though His Last Name Was Mispronounced
Image
When Josh Duhamel fired up Apple TV+ to stream The Studio, the inside-baseball satirical comedy from co-creator Seth Rogen, he wasn’t necessarily expecting to be the butt of a couple jokes several episodes in.

On a new episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, the Ransom Canyon actor discussed everything from his time in the Transformers franchise and working with Michael Bay to his wellness ventures. Toward the end of the sprawling interview, as Rosenbaum checked to see if he was pronouncing his last name correctly, Duhamel pointed out an example of when it distinctly wasn’t.

“There’s a whole episode with me being cast as the Kool-Aid Guy,” the actor began, referencing Episode 7 of Season 1, titled simply “Casting.” In it, Rogen’s newly minted Continental Studios CEO is struggling to put together a docket of actors for a new Kool-Aid movie, launching a convoluted and...

Josh Duhamel Teases "Tension" & "Struggle" in Netflix's 'Ransom Canyon' Season 2
Image
First, there was Yellowstone. Then came a modern-day resurgence of western-style television that hasn't exactly cooled off in recent years. And it's extended beyond Paramount+, with Netflix recently joining in on the action.

Ransom Canyon debuted on the streaming giant back in April, and season 2 was greenlit just recently. Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel lead the on-screen ensemble, the latter of whom can also be spotted on the big screen of late with a new action thriller from Lionsgate. MovieWeb recently caught up with Duhamel while he was promoting Off the Grid, and the longtime actor took time to reflect on his Netflix series thus far — and what's possible in season 2 of Ransom Canyon.

"I totally trust [creator] April Blair and the writing team. They're really, really, really good, so I'm guessing it's going to be fun," Duhamel told MovieWeb. "There's probably going to be, you know, more tension between [my character] Staten and [Minka's character] Quinn.

'Off the Grid' Action Thriller Finds Josh Duhamel Reuniting With 'Call of Duty' Co-Star
Image
Ever since the release of its first-ever video game in 2003, the Call of Duty franchise just keeps on trucking. Fans eagerly await Black Ops 7, and the installments that have hit store shelves in the last decade have consistently upped the ante. Josh Duhamel (Ransom Canyon) lent his talents to Call of Duty: WWII (2017), while famed Ecuadorian actress Maria Elisa Camargo starred in both Warfare II (2022) and Warzone 2.0 (2023). It's always an added treat when Hollywood gets involved in high-profile video games — and interestingly, both Duhamel and Camargo can now be spotted in a live-action thriller that Lionsgate just released.

MovieWeb recently spoke with Camargo while she was promoting Off the Grid, which sees Duhamel's lead character doing just that for the sake of international security. Camargo plays a local shop owner looking out for the lone wolf, and the actress spoke about brushing up on her familiarity with Duhamel's work leading...

Netflix’s ‘Yellowstone’ Replacement Tumbles Down Streaming Charts Thanks to Final Season of Platform’s Most Popular Show Ever
Image
Netflix's latest attempt to replicate the explosive success of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone has already hit a major speed bump. The Waterfront, created by Scream mastermind Kevin Williamson and starring Holt McCallany, Maria Bello, Melissa Benoist, and Topher Grace, debuted impressively. But now, Netflix’s blockbuster Yellowstone replacement appears to be sinking fast—blamed squarely on the premiere of Squid Game Season 3, which has reclaimed the top spot on the charts.

Upon its June 23 release, The Waterfront skyrocketed to #1 on Netflix’s global viewership rankings. The eight-episode series follows a North Carolina fishing dynasty struggling to survive—a family legacy drama steeped in betrayal, power, and economic pressures—intended to scratch that Yellowstone-style itch.

Critically, it was met with lukewarm reception: 64% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 71% from audiences. Collider’s Samuel Murrian even dubbed it “one of this year’s best shows,” cautious to note that it could...

Ransom Canyon Secures Season 2 And Taylor Sheridan Might Wanna Watch His Back
Image
Netflix’s romantic-Western series Ransom Canyon has been greenlit for a second season. This news, while music to the fans’ ears, poses a threat to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone. While the two shows have been heavily compared, with many looking down on Ransom Canyon in the past, this news confirms its frontier legacy.

Based on the bestselling novels of Jodi Thomas and with a stunning cast led by Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, the show received lukewarm reviews. However, that did not stop it from topping Netflix charts and riding on the waves of high viewership success. Now, as Ransom Canyon begins writing its next chapter, Sheridan’s long-claimed position on the throne in the neo-Western arena might face a challenge.

Ransom Canyon Has Officially Been Renewed for a Second Season

In a press release on June 24, 2025, Netflix confirmed Ransom Canyon will be returning with a 2nd season only two months after Season 1’s premiere.

‘Off the Grid’ Review: Josh Duhamel-Led Action Thriller Is a Formulaic Fizzle
Image
There is no excuse for “Off the Grid.” Director Johnny Martin’s hackneyed action-thriller is woefully short on action and thrills, and generic enough to suggest it was scripted by AI. Indeed, this half-baked potboiler leaves one with the nagging suspicion that it was produced simply to meet some sort of quota, and cast with actors who came on board only because they lost bets.

Josh Duhamel does his best to get his Rambo on as Guy, a research scientist who skedaddles from his lab at the San Francisco-based Belcor Enterprises after he discovers his corporate overlord intends to weaponize his current project, a palm-sized energy-producing reactor. He goes to ground and reinvents himself as a survivalist in a wilderness area of Tennessee, where he resides in a reconverted Quonset hut, maintains an elaborate array of boobytraps and warning signals to ward off unwelcome visitors, and generally stays (as the title says) off the grid.

Will Netflix’s ‘The Waterfront’ Land a Season 2 Renewal? Recent Premiere Ratings Give Us a Clue
Image
Kevin Williamson’s new series “The Waterfront” debuted to promising viewership in its first week on Netflix as the week’s most-watched English-language TV series. But will the family drama — which closes with a cliffhanger that could expand the world — score a Season 2 renewal? A peek at some recent premiere ratings might provide a clue.

While it’s too early to predict how the series might perform across the coming weeks, premiere numbers for “The Waterfront,” which scored 8.3 million views in first four days on Netflix, are comparable to Western drama series “Ransom Canyon,” which received a Season 2 renewal from the streamer this week.

Debuting in April, “Ransom Canyon” logged 7.2 million viewers in its first four days, ranking as the week’s No. 2 most-watched TV show behind “Black Mirror” Season 7. “Ransom Canyon” grew to reach 9.4 million views in its second week — second to “You” Season 5 — before sliding down to 4.2 million...

‘Off The Grid’ Movie Review: Josh Duhamel Leads A Serviceable Rambo-esque Action Thriller
Image
“One-man army” films are in vogue right now, but this is not a new trend. When Westerns were at the peak of their popularity, you had several stories of a highly trained gunslinger who had been wronged in some way out for blood, with actors like Clint Eastwood and John Wayne at the helm. Back in the ‘80s and the ‘90s, action stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Jean-Claude Van Damme would headline movies about a guy who was out to get revenge for personal, professional, or nationalistic reasons. And while mainstream cinema refused to use such narratives for a while until Keanu Reeves became John Wick, that trend was kept alive in the direct-to-video releases by immensely talented artists like Scott Adkins, Marko Zaror, and Michael Jai White. Recently, well-known faces like Orlando Bloom, Tom Hardy, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Jennifer Lopez...

Josh Dallas wants to reunite with Manifest costar in Ransom Canyon season 2
Image
Shortly after Netflix announced the exciting Ransom Canyon season 2 renewal news, Once Upon a Time and Manifest star Josh Dallas threw his cowboy hat in the ring to appear in the new season. If you're wondering how this even came about or, more importantly, why it needs to happen, allow me to explain. As per usual, it's all connected.

Netflix's modern Western romantic drama series Ransom Canyon features a sprawling, multi-generational ensemble cast led by Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly. While centering on the ranching and romantic lives of many adult characters, the series also devotes a significant amount of time to teenage characters in the titular Texas town.

One of those teen characters is the charming and endearing Lucas Russell, played by Garrett Wareing, who Manifest fans know best as Tj. Wareing has by far been among the best breakout talents on Ransom Canyon and plays one of the show's best characters.

It seems that Netflix was not ready to let the series ride off into the sunset just yet — and as luck would have it, there are plenty of "stories still untold," according to showrunner, creator and executive producer Blair, who said in a statement:

"I couldn't be happier that Netflix is ready to get back in the saddle for Ransom Canyon. Our dreamy little corner of Texas Hill Country is full of stories still untold, and we can't wait to bring them to our incredible fans. Get ready for another ride."

Netflix has given a Season 2 pickup to Ransom Canyon, its freshman romantic Western drama starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly.

The news comes more than two months after the 10-episode first season of the series, an adaptation of Jodi Thomas’ books, was released. At the time, a Season 2 writers room, led by executive producer/showrunner April Blair, already was up and running. Filming on the new season is eyeing a September start, I hear. Netflix’s New ‘Yellowstone’ Dupe Is a Streaming Hit Despite 64% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
It isn't unheard of for the film and television industries to manufacture success. With the introduction of algorithm-driven programming in recent years, it makes perfect sense for Netflix to try and replicate the sheer virality of Taylor Sheridan's franchise-spawning series Yellowstone. The streamer famously passed on the series when it was first being shopped around, and has spent at least a couple of years trying to create something that might appeal to its massive audience. The latest in this assembly line of shows is The Waterfront. Starring Holt McCallany in the lead role, the series jumped straight to the top of Netflix's viewership charts upon release last week.

According to FlixPatrol, The Waterfront earned 733 points on June 23, ranking first on Netflix. It beat out the holdover hit Sirens, and the more recent Dept. Q. The Waterfront also outperformed the latest seasons of Ginny & Georgia and Fubar. The show...

Interview: Off the Grid’s Johnny Martin Reveals How the Film’s Ending Is a Tony Scott Homage
Image
Off the Grid director Johnny Martin didn’t want to do another action movie. Despite his history in the stunt world and an action-packed filmography featuring movies starring Al Pacino and Nicolas Cage, Martin admitted a hesitancy to step back into the genre. “I’m tired of seeing a guy fight 200 guys and kill 150 guys, and have the training to do that,” he said. “I’m like, ‘What if we grabbed a guy that was a scientist, and he doesn’t have the ability to do anything like this, but has to figure it out by using his brain?'” From there, the characterisation of Guy, played by Josh Duhamel, started to form. “I didn’t want the lead actor to ever have a gun in his hand,” Martin said. “I always wanted him to figure out a way out of [danger], but not be so talented that it was the...

Off the Grid Movie Review – Josh Duhamel’s MacGyver-Esque Action Flick Entertains
Image
Johnny Martin’s Off the Grid could be about any Big Tech company nowadays. Josh Duhamel’s Guy, a super-smart scientist, develops a new type of technology that harbors the potential to change the world. However, the company he works for only sees dollars, choosing a route of weaponizing the tech. So, Guy grabs the goods and goes on the run – off the grid to be exact. The evil company locates him and decides it wants the tech back – by any means necessary. The script, written by James Agnew, chooses simplicity over swerves. There aren’t many surprises hidden in this tale, as it’s exactly as described above: Guy is on the run and the company tries to catch him. That’s it. Of course, there are auxiliary characters who assist Guy, such as María Elisa Camargo’s Josey and Michael Zapesotsky’s Chase, but Off the Grid comes...

Josh Duhamel Tries to Outrun a 'Game of Thrones' Villain in First 'London Calling' Trailer
Image
Josh Duhamel is blasting himself out of an incredibly dangerous corner in the debut trailer for London Calling. The film acts as a crime caper reunion for the leading man and director, Allan Ungar, who previously joined forces behind the 2022 biographical film, Bandit. Assisted by a supporting cast that includes Rick Hoffman (Suits), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), and Jeremy Ray Taylor (It), the explosive trailer teases Duhamel’s latest dip into the genre courtesy of his on-screen persona — a disgraced hitman named Tommy Ward.

The name “Tommy Ward” echoes throughout the opening seconds of the first official trailer for London Calling, as a voiceover informs audiences about the assassin’s legendary run as one of the biggest names in the biz. Unfortunately, that life is all in the past now, after a hit-gone-wrong forced Duhamel’s leading character to flee from London to the otherside of the globe. Now residing in Los Angeles,...

From stuntmen to spies, these action comedies movies on Prime Video go big

‘Deep Cover’ leads the pack with a wild improv-gone-wrong premise that actually works.

I’ve been deep in the sketch comedy trenches this past year, and my wife’s been diving headfirst into improv — so yeah, when I saw that Prime Video had a new movie where an improv team goes undercover, it was a no brainer. “Deep Cover” takes a bunch of clueless performers and drops them into a real criminal operation, and you can probably guess how that goes. That got me thinking of other action comedies on Prime Video, and it turns out they have a pretty strong lineup. So, if you like your laughs with a side of grenade, here are the best action-comedy movies streaming on Prime Video right now.

Top 7 action-comedy movies streaming on Prime Video right now:

No. 7: ‘Shotgun Wedding’

No. 6: ‘My Spy’

No. 5: ‘Hot Pursuit’

No. 4: ‘My Spy: The Eternal City’
