Brooks & Dunn: Why Ronnie Dunn Shockingly Walked Off Mid-Song
Image
Why did Brooks & Dunn frontman, Ronnie Dunn, shockingly walk off of the stage in the middle of a song? Obviously, this move left fans and followers scratching their heads. So, is everything okay? Keep reading for further details on his walk-off.

Why Ronnie Dunn Shockingly Walked Off Mid-Song

On Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, Brooks & Dunn was performing a show at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Everyone was having a good time until the encore. As Ronnie Dunn was singing the 1991 single, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” he shockingly walked off of the stage. He had asked the concertgoers to “sing it if you know it,” but eventually patted his chest and exited. No one knew what was going on but they were visibly concerned as to why he did not finish out the show. It was noted that Ronnie had a few moments during the show that caused concern, but he never shared what the problem was.

Jelly Roll, Snoop Dogg Spark Up a Blunt Onstage in Nashville
Image
Snoop Dogg made a surprise appearance at Jelly Roll’s Beautifully Broken Tour stop at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Tuesday night, joining the country star to debut a collaboration off Snoop’s upcoming album Missionary.

The song, “Last Dance With Mary Jane,” interpolates Tom Petty’s 1993 classic “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” and unsurprisingly reflects Snoop’s longtime affinity for marijuana. Jelly takes a verse of his own on the song while also singing the chorus featured on Petty’s original version.

After finishing the performance, Snoop took out a blunt and lighter,...

Jelly Roll Joins Brooks & Dunn for ‘Believe’ at 2024 CMA Awards
Image
Jelly Roll is one of 18 artists singing Brooks & Dunn songs on the duo’s new album Reboot II. On Wednesday, the former rapper joined Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks onstage at the CMA Awards to perform his version of “Believe.”

Like B&d’s 2005 original, Jelly Roll’s version on Reboot II is rich in gospel accents — onstage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, he was accompanied by nine-member choir as he traded verses with Dunn. A 16-piece orchestra also helped turn the ballad into a grand production.

CMA Awards 2024 Winners List: Morgan Wallen Is Mia but Wins Entertainer of the Year for First Time; Chris Stapleton Nabs Three
Image
Morgan Wallen went into the 58th annual CMA Awards as the leading contender, with seven nominations. He won only one of those, but it was the prize he most would have wanted: entertainer of the year. Or we can assume so, since Wallen was the only no-show among the night’s big nominees.

The 2024 CMAs’ other multiple winners were Chris Stapleton, who picked up three trophies, and show co-host Lainey Wilson (last year’s entertainer of the year winner), who got two.

Others being awarded honors on the ABC telecast included Cody Johnson, Megan Moroney, Old Dominion and — in perhaps the night’s biggest upset — Brooks & Dunn, who won duo of the year for the 15 time… the first time in 18 years.

According to the Country Music Association, Stapleton and Brooks & Dunn are now tied for the most CMA wins ever, with 19 each.

Among those who were shut out were...

Brooks & Dunn Recruit Some A-List Buddies for ‘Reboot II’
Image
Brooks & Dunn haven’t released an album of new material since 2007’s Cowboy Town, but when you have a catalog as impressive as theirs, it can be okay to coast on past glories. Especially when many of today’s hottest artists — Lainey Wilson, Morgan Wallen, Jelly Roll — are willing to sing the old hits. That’s the premise of Reboot II, a sequel to 2019’s Reboot, which assembles 18 Nashville stars to put their own spin on songs like “Neon Moon,” “Believe,” and “Hillbilly Deluxe,” with an assist from B&d themselves.

Morgan Wallen Welcomed Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Darius Rucker, More to His Knoxville Shows
Image
Morgan Wallen spent this weekend playing to more than 150,000 people over two shows at the Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. The gigs were about as close as the country star gets to a homecoming blowout — he grew up in Sneedville, about 90 minutes away — so he marked the occasion with a slew of surprise guests, including Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, and Darius Rucker.

During night one last Friday, Sept. 20, Church took the stage to join Wallen for a duet rendition of “Quittin’ Time,” a track off Wallen’s 2021 smash, Dangerous: The Double Album.

Image
Toby Keith, whose history with the CMT Music Awards goes back to having co-hosted the earliest incarnation of the show, will get his due in the wake of his recent death, as an all-star salute is planned for Keith on Sunday night’s three-hour CBS telecast.

The tribute will feature performances by one of the hottest figures in country music, Lainey Wilson, along with his fellow industry veterans Brooks & Dunn, whose Ronnie Dunn is a fellow Okie. Rocker Sammy Hagar, who featured Keith on an episode of his TV series “Rock & Roll Road Trip” in 2022, will join the lineup paying homage.

Set for what’s being billed as special appearances saluting the late singer are Lukas Nelson and Roger Clemens. Nelson’s father, Willie, had a smash duet with Keith, “Beer for My Horses.” Baseball legend Roger Clemens’ friendship with Keith included the singer inducting the ballplayer into the Houston Sports Hall of Fame.

June Carter Cash’s Blazing Legacy Unfolds in ‘June’ Documentary Trailer
Image
“Bad ass bitch” are the first words used to describe June Carter Cash in the official trailer for June, the documentary premiering via Paramount+ on Jan. 16. Kacey Musgraves assigns the label to her — and the remainder of the trailer ticks off all of the reasons why it’s a more than accurate descriptor.

In addition to Musgraves, the film features appearances and insight from Reese Witherspoon, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Larry Gatlin, Robert Duvall, Ronnie Dunn, and more. Having walked in the light of Carter Cash’s legacy and influence,...

Stagecoach 2023: Lainey Wilson, Chris Stapleton, and Nostalgia Dominate Country’s California Fest
Image
This year’s Stagecoach Festival was a love letter to country music’s past and a nod to its wide-open future. While the festival — the genre’s largest, most rollicking reunion that takes place in California’s low desert the week after Coachella — was sparse on guest appearances (no Axl Rose, this time), the level of showmanship and raw talent was high.

The three-day affair weaved in and out of hat-tips from the likes of Luke Bryan playing “Where the Green Grass Grows” by Tim McGraw to Kane Brown performing...

Brooks & Dunn’s Ronnie Dunn: 10 Songs That Shaped Me

Covers albums are often a letdown, mostly unnecessary projects that leave you wondering why the artist devoted valuable time to singing someone else’s songs instead of working on their own. Ronnie Dunn’s Re-Dunn — what a title! — is among the rare exceptions.

Out January 10th, the 24-track collection finds the Brooks & Dunn vocalist somehow making songs we’ve all heard innumerable times (Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down,” Strait’s “Amarillo by Morning,” Pure Prairie League’s “Amie”) sound vital and electric. We asked the newly minted member...

Why It Took Rodney Crowell 40 Years to Make His ‘Texas’ Album
Rodney Crowell
Rodney Crowell could have spent a lifetime writing an album about Texas. In a way, he has. Though the Grammy-winning Americana storyteller left the Lone Star State for Music City in 1972, he’s returned to it time and again for inspiration in the decades since, from his 2001 LP The Houston Kid to his 2011 memoir Chinaberry Sidewalks. But Crowell owes his latest album, Texas, to a song called “Brown & Root, Brown & Root,” and a conversation it started between him and Steve Earle.

“I wrote that back in the Seventies and Steve learned it.

See Rodney Crowell and Randy Rogers’ Playful ‘Flatland Hillbillies’ Video
Rodney Crowell
Texas natives Rodney Crowell and Randy Rogers go full Lone Star on the new collaboration “Flatland Hillbillies,” which will appear on Crowell’s upcoming album Texas. The video for the tune, which Crowell wrote with author Mary Karr, is out now.

Over a muscular, country-rock groove, Crowell describes a kind of hardscrabble existence for people from where he grew up, affectionately referring to them an “Irish-Cajun-Creole-Mix.” In true Texas fashion, they’re making it work by whatever means necessary: “getting by on what we can,” sings Crowell, with some vocal...

Watch Midland, Brooks & Dunn Sing ‘Boot Scootin’ Boogie’ on ‘Fallon’
Brooks & Dunn and Midland brought their collaboration for B&D’s new album Reboot to life when they teamed up to perform “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night.

Midland singer Mark Wystrach set the scene with the song’s famous opening lyric — “Out in the country, past the city limits sign” — before Ronnie Dunn and his honeyed voice joined in. His partner of nearly 30 years Kix Brooks laid down some rootsy harmonica, while Midland’s Jess Carson and Cameron Daddy chimed in on background vocals.

Kix Brooks
Brooks & Dunn Don’t Hate Each Other. Really.
Kix Brooks
It’s halfway through “The First and the Worst” benefit guitar pull at Nashville’s City Winery, a charity concert in which songwriters revisit both their first and most odious compositions, and Kix Brooks, performing solo, has made yet another joke about hating Ronnie Dunn.

But the gregarious, fast-talking Brooks, one half of country music’s biggest-selling duo Brooks & Dunn, may protest too much. While he and Dunn’s sometimes prickly relationship has become the stuff of Music Row lore — their entire arranged marriage was a reluctant one, two struggling...

Kacey Musgraves in The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show (2019)

Reba McEntire Goes Western Swing in New Song ‘No U in Oklahoma’
Reba McEntire
In the just-released “No U in Oklahoma,” Reba McEntire spells out the twists and turns of a troubled relationship set to an irresistible Western swing beat, replete with twin fiddles, steel guitar and piano accompaniment straight out of a Sooner State dance hall.

“You put the ‘T’ for tears in Texas, ‘S’ for sad in St. Louie/Our reckless travels led us to the state of Missouri,” McEntire sings, with the latter state name sounding more like “misery.”

In spite of the heartache, this bubbly throwback to traditional country, penned...
