Asian Pop-up Cinema Announces Season 12 Streaming, Oscar Contenders and Drive-in Premiers March 15 – May 1

Chicago, Il – – In their longest run yet, Asian Pop-Up Cinema: Season 12 will screen more than 33 films and one of its most diverse lineups. The joint virtual and drive-in film festival opens March 15 and runs through May 1, 2021.

Presented in three parts, the festival will include its official selection at its new virtual cinema, powered by eventive for the USA (March 15-31), Academy Award contenders for Best International Feature Film (April 1-15) via its screening partner Smart Cinema USA; and one-night-only screenings at the Lincoln Yards Drive-In operated by the Davis Theater (April 15 – May 1).

In addition to 8 North American and 12 U.S. premieres, the festival will offer three Hidden Gem Encores and selected films from Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, China, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Mongolia. Following two wins in the past three years, contenders from across the Americas are championing local culture and community.

‘14 Days 12 Nights’ assumes Canada’s Oscar race mantle after ‘Funny Boy’ disqualified

It replaces Deepa Mehta’s Funny Boy, which was disqualified for being predominantly in English.

Jean-Philippe Duval’s 14 Days 12 Nights will represent Canada in the international feature film Oscar contest after Deepa Mehta’s Funny Boy was disqualified for being predominantly in English.

Telefilm Canada announced the new official submission on Saturday morning (December 19), the day after it pulled Mehta’s coming-of-age drama.

The Academy’s eligibility rules state that submissions in the category must have a language other than English accounting for more than half of the dialogue track.

List of Nominees for the 2010 Jutra Awards
This afternoon, the nominees for the Jutra Award, Quebec's own Oscars, were announced. Unlike last year, there are two new things that we should expect to see. The first one being that the jury will be formed by 18 people. Secondly, all members of the jury have seen the films that are nominated. Besides, the host of evening will be Patrice L'Écuyer and the ceremony will take place at La Tohu on March 28. Also note that the Jutra Award will be broadcasted live on Radio-Canada. Anyway, the following is the list of nominees.

Movie News: Canadian Films at the 14th Pusan International Film Festival
Montreal, September 7, 2009 – Telefilm Canada is pleased to announce that nine Canadian feature films have been officially selected for the 14th edition of the Pusan International Film Festival, which takes place in Pusan, South Korea from October 8 to 19, 2009.

“Telefilm recognizes Pusan as a valuable venue for Canadian filmmakers to showcase their work to international audiences,” states Sheila de la Varende, Director, International & National Business Development. “Participation in Pusan supports our efforts to increase foreign sales, encourage co-production, and raise the profile of Canada’s industry on the international scene, all of which are critically important to building a sustainable, vibrant film industry in this country.”

In 14 years, Pusan has become one of Asia’s most important film festivals, to which a market component, the Asian Film Market, was added in 2006. Telefilm has been organizing screenings for Pusan’s selection committee and facilitating the selection of Canadian films...
