- After making friends with Orson Welles during the shooting of Battle At Neretva, he was asked by Orson to come with him to Hollywood and make an acting career there. He declined, saying that he couldn't imagine himself living anywhere else but in his hometown Split. Almost forty years later, his son Dean told him that only a fool could refuse an offer like that. He still disagreed.
- On August 1990, he received Life Achievement Award "Slavica" for his roles in Yugoslav cinematography.
- In August of 1992 elected in Croatian Parliament only to resign without explanation few months later.
