Exclusive: Scott Bakula will return to the New York stage this winter in an Off Broadway, world premiere production of the new musical The Connector, conceived and directed by Daisy Prince with music and lyrics by Tony winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade) and a book by Jonathan Marc Sherman.

A production of the acclaimed Off Broadway non-profit company McC Theater, The Connector will begin performances at McC Theater’s Newman Mills Theater on January 12, 2024, with an opening night set for February 6. The limited engagement will run through February 18, 2024.

Set in the rapidly changing media and magazine worlds of the late 1990s (the title refers to a revered publication), The Connector also will feature choreography by Karla Puno Garcia, co-choreographer of the Broadway-found Days of Wine and Roses.

Star Trek leads the way again, with news that a new medical compound of injectable oxygen — Tri-Ox for you nerds — is just passed a remarkable lab test in animals.

In an inspirational development, scientists may soon be able to keep suffocating people alive by injecting oxygen-filled microparticles into their bloodstreams. Led by John Kheir at Children’s Hospital Boston, a team of cardiologists choked rabbits (I know) for 15 minutes after administering the gas-laden shots. The rabbits experienced no adverse physical effects…. As George Dvorsky over at io9 points out, the breakthrough could prevent millions of deaths from suffocation every year, not to mention staving off heart attacks and brain damage induced by a lack of air.

I’m also seeing possibilities for genetically cloned armies armed with injectable oxygen and CO2 scrubbers. But then I’m a bit warped.

The Chicago engagement of the national tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has been canceled. The show was originally scheduled to play The Chicago Theatre Feb. 11-15. The tour's website announces that the engagement was canceled "due to slower than expected local ticket sales." Any tickets that were ordered through Ticketmaster (by phone or on-line) will be credited to the purchaser's credit card account. Tickets purchased through Ticketmaster outlets or through The Chicago Theatre's box office must be returned to the original point of purchase. The Friends of North Shore Music Theatre (Nsmt) have announced details for a rousing fundraising event to help save the region's legendary theater. The event, organized by a volunteer committee of trustees, former employees, Nsmt alumni and parents, will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Danversport Yacht Club, 161 Elliot Street in Danvers, Ma at 6:30 pm. The star-studded evening will be hosted by venerable Nsmt actor David Coffee. Best known for his role as Scrooge in Nsmt's production of A Christmas Carol, Coffee also played Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, as well as countless other memorable roles at Nsmt.
